Maybe! The classic car market is very similar to the art market. There are the grandmasters and then there is everything else. If you purchase a vehicle that you love and want to enjoy on the weekends then go for it. But if you purchase a vehicle believing that you or your estate can resell for a greater amount then you must stick to the grandmasters. Anything else you must ask yourself is this something the next generation will purchase. The one problem with vehicles that make them unique is that they do not get better just setting in a garage. Just ask Jay Leno what it takes to keep his collection in driving condition.
Apparently everyone's forgetting what happened to the price of collectable cars after the mortgage bubble popped in 2008, cars on Barrett-Jackson that were selling for $150,000 a year before wouldn't meet a $70,000 reserve price when they tried to sell them after 2008. Same thing happened with collectable Harley's, the market for them tanked and hasn't come back even close to the pre '08 prices, a lot of people lost their shirts who'd tied up investment money in collectable vehicles.

It is not always fear. Sometimes realistic factors discourage people from reaching their goals in life. For instance, I've tried investing in the stock market several times but always got discouraged by fluctuations of stock value.

Love the breakdown. So the onus is on newbies to beware.

@@ClassicCarCustodians Kevin O’Leary... “ classic cars are a great store of wealth! You get a slightly better return than if you buried half a million dollars in the dirt, but make sure you put it in your living room, don’t drive it. Don’t touch it. Actually don’t even look at it, put a sheet over, if you so much as brush your dick up against it, loses 50% of its value! 😂😂😂😂
As the Hagerty dude said on a podcast "Buy high, sell low" Buy the car and drive it, drive the "value" out of it and actually enjoy it for what it was made to do!
Amen!!!! you are absolutely right. It breaks my heart to see so many of these cars sitting in a garage, trailered to events and seldom turning a wheel. Cars were meant to be driven.
@@mikeoneil-work4216 a couple preservation cars aren't a big deal, but when the entire market is full of speculators and opportunists.. that's a problem My favorite are Spike Ferristen and Paul Zuckerman on Instagram, they buy the lowest mileage cars and daily drive them
This is an excellent video Kevin. One of the best times to buy a classic car is when the stock market goes down. Classic cars tend to appreciated when this happens.
My dad and I collect and build Classic Cars I collect guitars and train and teach Brazilian jiu-jitsu. This video is very inspiring. I’m glad I ran across it. Thank you Mr. O’Leary.
Kevin, my wife and I were late comers to Shark Tank…..we got hooked at the start of Covid and watched (and still do) most every night. I like to call you the Howard Stern of the Shark Tank. ‘Saying outloud what people are thinking but afraid to say.’ There are evenings when we are disappointed in some of your comments towards some of the folks on the carpet. But I am a true car enthusiast and have a small collection of cars with lifts in my garage and tools and work on all of my cars. So, this video was near and dear to my heart! Great video sir. This gentleman that you interviewed is very knowledgeable for his young age. I am sharing this video with all of my car guy friends. Love the flip flops!! 🤓
Yep that's why very very old cars aren't worth much anymore..their target buyers are all dead ..so that's why cars from the 80s are now the rave..only a few special cars can make the generation leap and still that goes only with solid brands that still exist unlike classics from obsolete brands . It's a long game its risky and most times only turn out good Investments by chance due to trends at the time.
That's not a problem. That's great news for a young person like me whose 28. Can't wait for all the old people who die off and it ends up being enjoyed by my generation:)
Hey Kevin; thanks a million Kevin for sharing all your valuable financial advice. With all due respect as for cars, watches and other collectables, I warn you and everyone else to not go off the deep end with collectables. You are a brilliant and gifted investor and can attest what happens when there is a major recession especially if it is protracted. Expensive possessions go to the bottom of priority list; values tank. Also there are major downsides to cars in addition to market fluctuations; upkeep, storage, insurance and licensing; all translated into financial drains.
Market is on an all time high! I wouldn't invest in it only for the money right now! If you love to collect and use the cars, it's ok, go ahead! But for profit, I would wait for the market overall to crash or choose carefully for cars that are very rare and probably won't loose much or any value when the market corrects!
the market wont crash, as there gets serious amounts of money printed and inflation will kick in, so these cars are safe a new porsche modell increase like 10-15% in price every few years, so older cars keep going up to similiar percentages
Great thoughts! The year is almost over and very glad about the decisions I have made so far. Investing in the market earlier this year regardless of the market conditions has saved my life. I made over 70k USD with a start of 25k in the last 7 months. I know it's nothing compared to what others make but I'm glad I'm changing my finances. If things keep going well I might retire soon>.
You're right, the best time to buy in the market is when there's fear. A huge part of my growth has also come during this bear market. This year alone, 1 have scaled from 180k to over 354k.
I diversify my portfolio into real estate crowdfunding, stocks, and cryptomarket. Although I'm able to achieve this with the guidance of John Desmond Heppolette.
Not really an investment, the maintenance is expensive, even if it’s just in storage. That’s another thing, adequate storage to preserve the paintwork etc. Then, you need to wait a long time, predict future trends, and hope they’re not suddenly taxed or otherwise slapped by government action.
FABULOUS VIDEO! I have "Mixed Emotions" about the "low Mileage" cars... On the one hand... they are almost like NEW, even 20+ years later... But on the other hand, you have a REMARKABLE Vehicle, with Amazing Performance, that often costs amazing amounts to develop and engineer... That is never "Appreciated" from the Driver's Seat !! WHY DO all that development and engineering, and not USE IT? You may as well just build a Clay Designing Model/Mock-up, and place it on a Display Stand. So, because I LOVE to DRIVE performance vehicles.. I can hardly imagine leaving such cars parked in an air conditioned warehouse or 'museum display', or even my Living Room...
You can tell by Kevin's questions and reaction to the facts presented to him that Kevin is not a car guy. Nothing wrong with that... I consider myself a "car guy" and can tell you it is very difficult to make money with cars. Best advice has always been buy what you like and if you get lucky and it appreciates just consider it a bonus. I remember him years ago on TV telling a story about how he bought a 911 and only owned it for a short time as his wife told him he looked ridiculous in it.
@@kenS87 Thanks for your commenting, I just discovered a more beneficial ways of making a huge profits from trading. I will advice you to contact my support team for assistance.
Couldn’t agree more. Looove the classics! With such crazy demand right now and the lack of supply, almost all sport cars are holding a very strong value. Personal goal is to own a fleet of 911’s!
My 09 Mustang GT with 153k miles on it, and in decent condition for a 14 year old car, went from 6k to 13k because of the price hikes. Cant imagine what it will do when I finally get it put back to spotless again. Though I'm also not after what it can get me in terms of resale, I just love that car too much and I dont have any interest in saving it for the next guy. Which it already gets offers as it is currently fairly often.
Vintage car values are dropping because the people who collected those cars are dying off. Therefore, there's less demand for them and their values drop.
This is a prime example of what TRUE car enthusiasts despise. If someone says a Countach is a horrendous car to drive I’m done listening...this immediately tells me that this person knows nothing about the relationship one can develop with a flawed but well engineered piece of machinery. Developing that with one of these amazing cars can be one of the most wondrous events a person can have. I do feel for people that haven’t had this epiphany yet in life as it is exciting and therapeutic.
Exactly. Cars are not perfect and all have draw backs, But this is what we enjoy about the vehicles we get attached too. I currently own an 09 mustang GT and love the fucking hell out of it, despite it being made of horrible materials and isnt as fast as it could be. And my last car was a Supercharged 4 cylinder Chevy Cobalt SS, Thing was a massive money pit and made of even worse materials than my mustang. However.. It was actually a pocket rocket and would easily do speeds of 120+ with 0 issue( I remember doing a sustained 135 mph once on a section of a Kanas interstate between 2 towns. It felt very composed shockingly.). And after 5 years, I've since changed my mind about it being such a POS, and subsiquently. I would like another go at one just for the hell of it and to bring back memories.
To be fair, most people that drive the Countach, or any Lamborghini from the 80s and 90s pretty much all say it feels like the car is trying to kill you the whole time. Which I what I love about it. But from a normal person's perspective, it probably is a horrible car to drive.
Have an 89’ 944T from original owner - his purchase price per build sheet and sales contract was $48k which is about ~$100k today. Amazing car both drive and looks - iconic styling.
I just want to say, THANK YOU for bring me into the rabbit hole that is F.P Journe. Visited their place, got to talk to the owner. Only watch place that has that magic made me got one they have and wait for one on the list. I blow all my budget, thanks Kevin.
It depends on the car. The 944 for example is not entirely expensive for parts, though labor can cost slightly more than a typical mechanic due to hours spent. A clutch repair in the 944 is an expensive one for that car, usually around $2500-3500 for clutch, flywheel, gaskets etc for the job all depending on your mechanic. The Countach would cost around $10k for the same clutch repair given the engine has to come out, and when you replace the clutch you most likely want to do all the seals and flywheel as well. Storage fees vary on quality of storage - temp controlled/ non temp controlled and your location.
@EMG ENT well there is for that dude who looks like he fell out of a surfer commercial. Sell you a car store the car service said car. You then in a few years give him the privilege to resell it for you. Also if you like that check out these guitars that you probably know nothing about but your gonna have to buy one because your wife wants to flirt w that dude.
If everything goes electric and the government says it won’t rely on oil / gas anymore. Would these vehicles still have value when you can’t drive them anymore or would they still increase in value either way?
The reason why we broke out in February was because we had news of Tesla buying $ 1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin, which served as a major catalyst in further creating new all-time highs. Up until that point, we were on a downward trend and eventually trading sideways, like we're seeing now. It wasn't a technical breakout that drove Bitcoin to new highs in February, it was more fundamental news of adoption by major institutions. We need to see more of that if we're going to repeat the growth that we saw last month. Until then, I have a feeling that we're going to be trading down and sideways, looking at the current situation I would suggest tredlnq with Daniel Wright to.make more gains from all this as I have made over 8btc in just 3 waeks of trading with hlm, here are his details on Tel- gram ( @Danielwrightfx) for his assistance on strictly crypto related.

I love cars, so if I had excess money I would own a few exotics, but I would need to drive it like the garage attendants in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Keeping it pristine is nice, but a sweet car is meant to be driven, not _rubbed with a diaper_
I have a Black Showroom condition 1978 Smokey and the Bandit Pontiac Trans Am. It's the nicest one in all of Arizona. Showroom condition. Sometimes I just stare at it in my garage. I bought it 7 years ago for $15,000. I put $25,500 into the car. Total invested $40,500. It's worth $35k. Not a great investment; however, pure fun to drive. It's very difficult to make money in Classic Cars. Whatever you think it's going to cost to restore a classic car, double it. The cost for original parts plus increasing labor costs for most classic cars are shocking.
A few years I bought a vintage 1970 Corvette 454 convertible, 1 of 13 Shriner parade cars from a well-known Corvette seller. It had full documentation from the original order sheet to all the restoration info. It looked absolutely wonderful. Since the C2 cars were appreciating so fast, the "experts" said that good C3 cars were due to follow. This did not happen and I sold the car last year for a loss. Be careful on what you buy as the "experts" are not always correct.

You must not be a car enthusiast to not understand it. Big block cars produced alot of torque compared to the small block ,and weight more, so the cars are front heavy and therefore dont trunk as well. Basically it comes down to uneven weight distributions. But they sure are fun to do burn outside in.

Many rubber items that can go bad on a 944 and make owning it a nightmare of getting things fixed. @4:10 930's are only/most a 4sp manual gear box, Yes, 4 gears only........the issue on these other than they are epic to drive is the turbo lag and back end loosing control when the power kicks in, hence people got them selfs into trouble -----so moderation and taking a 930 turbo to a track or a skid pad to lean the basics of power control will be a worth while experience......... @5:39 Start with the local Porsche Owners Clubs. The 944 Turbo is a great drivers car! I've had one for almost 20 years and I'm shocked by the recent prices. I never bought it as an investment and used it heavily but my return will be pretty good. Will I make money, considering maintenance and other costs, no, but the car will be basically free after all the years of enjoyment!
I’ve had an ‘86 na for 3 years - picked it up for close to nothing in good condition. Maintenance costs more than a camry, it’s worth every penny - They were well built, fun to drive and are quite practical
They might be a fine investment but it's all relative to what other investment options you have. If it beats your next best alternative then go for it. Opportunity cost! Of course, if you get a certain amount of enjoyment from the car on top of the investment aspect then you need to factor that in but that's hard to quantify.
Definitely agree. What was missing in this video is the cost to maintain the cars. You cant just buy them and let them sit 20 years and expect them to appreciate. Anyway if you are thinking about getting a car in your living room you probably dont care that much about a few bucks...

I will usually only buy things and invest in things that I actually have a passion for, cars are one of those things. The beautiful thing about the car market is you can generally be 100% sure weather a car you buy will go up in value or go down in value, the problem usually comes with you having enough money to buy the right car. For example the honda s2000 is increasing in value exponentially after in recent years it hit the bottom of its depreciation curve and started to increase in value. I would explain a little bit more on the value increase etc, however if you don't like cars don't invest in them.
3 to 5% Gross appreciation maybe, then you factor in insurance, high cost of maintenance for vintage cars if you aren't a mechanic, storage, so you are lucky to be at 2%. I think for most car people it's the enjoyment of the car, the financial appreciation secondary. Nonetheless fun video to watch.
Appreciating assets are the best investment. Find joy out of them in the current day and then if you want to sell later down the line, will end up with more money.

But for profit, I would wait for the market overall to crash or choose carefully for cars that are very rare and probably won't loose much or any value when the market corrects!
the market wont crash, as there gets serious amounts of money printed and inflation will kick in, so these cars are safe

My friend is a factory certified Porsche mechanic, his hourly rate is about the same as a very good Lawyer.
@@christophermartin972 😂😂
3 percent lol. They have been loosing 4 to 5 percent. Haggerty tracks values on all these.

Nice cars. I'm a Corvette guy. The 67 was stated to be a 427/390 h.p. post a 15 year resto. Tach redline is for a 427/435. If I saw that just from the video, no telling what I would find wrong in person. I'm just saying.
I often wonder how successful investors are able to make millions of $$ from trading stocks. Im completely new on this area of investing. Long story short I have a couple thousands saved up which i want to invest for long term and I know this sounds a bit dull but, I would like to know what advice you could give to start my investing journey
Diversify!
The average investor buys/holds for long term to make gains when stocks go up, In a situation where you're after short term profit, it is best to get in touch with an investment professional to guide you with entry and exit points. I reached out to a broker during the pandemic and that is how I was able to raise a profit of $380K within 7 months
@@martasati6907 Please who is the broker you work with and how can I get across to this broker?
@@allenzneverstop4746 she goes by Katherine Jo Rand. I came across her name in a cnbc interview and reached out to her through her website. You can look name up online to get more info. Her details are public
@@martasati6907 Thanks. I checked her out and i'm impressed with her resume, I'll touch base with her
Shark-A-Son. I love cars. I love learning about the history and nuance of collectible cars. You need to hire me. I grew up working at a BMW/Mazda/VW dealership. At 16 yrs old I learned to drive stick on a 88 BMW M5. I drove a 67 Corvette Stingray convertable, older BMW 635 CSIs, 90s BMW with Dinan chips and 90s Mazda RX7. I love cars. You should hire me to be a resource for your automotive investments.
Vincent Chase fallin' on hard times having to sell cars now.
They can probably borrow against the cars' value

Thanks Kevin. This guy is a real car "connaisseur" (to use a word you like) and certainly super passionate. He totally impressed me with his knowledge :)
Well then you've sure made a fool of yourself

I'm sure this has been said before, but I'd like to see Kevin do reaction videos to Australia's Shark Tank.
My dad bought a ‘17 viper ACR for 130,000. It was expensive for us, but he knew it would go up. Right now, since it only has 400 miles on it, it’s worth 220,000! It’s the last naturally aspirated, rwd, manual super car.
The worst that ever happened to me all through 2020 was neglecting Investing my money in crypto. Because so far it has proven to be the best, all thanks to Mrs. Eike crista, her trading strategies are so wonderful.
I make huge profits on my investment since I started trading with Mrs. Eike crista, her trading strategies are top notch.
I invest with Mrs. Eike Crista too, she charges a 20% commission on profit made after every trading session which is fair compared to the effort she put in to make huge profits.
This is not the first time I am hearing of Mrs. Eike crista and her exploits in the trading world but I have no idea how to get to her.
As a first time investor I started trading with Mrs. Eike crista with just a thousand bucks. my portfolio is worth much more than that now within just weeks of trading with her.
With the consistent weekly profits I'm getting investing with Mrs. Eike Crista, there's no doubt she is the most reliable in the market. such a genius.
I'd be all about the black 930 Turbo. Love the 427 Corvette, love the Lamborghini... but that black widow maker speaks to me. Unfortunately I can't justify that on top of my mortgage payment. I also like the black 944 Turbo and the red 930 Turbo. The split window 63 Corvette with the fuel injected 327 V8 has always been a cool car especially since the split window was a 1 year option.
I recommended a professional broker to you guys sometime ago, can I get a person who invested with her

Let's go

Love your videos, you’ve changed my mindset and I’ve seen great returns from crypto and stocks. They’re hurting right now but I’ve been able to achieve 600% returns on my investments the past month. Thank you Kevin Sending Love from the UK 💯
924/944 cars were the unloved Porsche cars because so much of them were from base model Audi sedans. A low revving 4 cylinder engine didn't have the sound but the cars handled better than the 911 of the day that were tail happy.
Great video Please you can help yourself with bitcoin. trading with expert Miss Caroline
And stop losing your money to a scammers please 🙏🙏
I've lost my money since last week ago the scammers scam me $5000 just like that and Mrs Caroline help me out and recover my money

Miss Caroline. You are always willing to teach me new things in life without complaining or maybe scolding me for my mistakes since, you always want the best for me.
This people on this video have make so much profit from her
I looked at the website wondering how a Diego Febles car ended up in Miami. Febles was actually a Cuban who lived in Puerto Rico after the revolution. I used to see him race in Añasco, but he mostly drove a Ford Escort brush painted in canary yellow. We would go every month to see if he would prevail against Manolo Freire's metallic blue 911. I don't have to say who we were rooting for.
Mrs Sandra Wilson and her method work like a magic I keep earning single week with new strategy
I think I'm blessed because if not I wouldn't have met someone who is as spectacular as expert Mrs Sandra Wilson

Hey Kevin .If I buy paintings and photography... are they good investment as well? Usually paintings appreciate over time as far as I know. What are your thoughts on that ? 🤨
Talking about passive income and investment, I will go with crypto currency 💵💵📊
Cryptocurrency is one of the best investment one can make and build wealth for their future.
Bitcoin trading is a very lucrative way of making money online
But now and invest in Bitcoin
Bitcoin is the future, investing now in it will be the wisest thing to do especially with the current rise.
Yes investing in Bitcoin with the guidance of an expert is the best and more profitable.
Cars to me are more about having fun than making it an investment. 3-5% isn’t a whole lot especially considering maintenance and cost to store. They’re fun but it might make more sense financially to invest elsewhere.
I want to wake up one morning and find out that my portfolio is $80,000 . I know it’s possible
I never doubted trading with Tobias after seeing his POT (proof of trades) l made good profits last months , I hope to make more
Tobias strategy is great I’ve used them since 2017. I’ve average 3,455% per yr !
I made a lot of cash back then in 2017 trading BTC I didn’t trade myself though. I had a trader but when I lost touch with him, I stopped trading but now I see the rapid increase I’m back at it. Still looking for a trader . I’ll try yours thanks
My first investment with Tobias trades services gave me profits of over $4,500 and ever since then he has never failed to deliver and i can ever say he’s the most sincere broker I’ve ever known !
He has really made a good name for himself
Enjoyed this one. Those vintage Corvettes and that dark blue Benz are amazing.
Hello 👋🏻 nice to meet you Andy, hope you’re safe and well?
You need to take into account servicing costs, insurance, warranty if applicable and storage costs and road tax costs before concluding if the vehicle is a good investment.
The shop is very cool. Full of knowledge thanks!
Do we think my Noble m12 might end up being a good investment? Only 223 imported to the U.S.
i know nothing about it sry i say do reasearch and see if they are rare and ppl like them yes just have to find the right buyer and original's if u can prove it even more
In 78 I bought a 67 911S . I had no idea at 18 what the S stood for and very little other I thought it was a cool looking car . I drove by the car sitting for sale for a few weeks until I storing and made a deal on it for 6$ k CDN . I drove the car for about 2 years until I had a major wreck and totaled it . Had I only known how valuable they would become??
You wouldn't have wrecked it?
I have never heard that big blocks like to go straight and I don't really know what that means. Make sure the power steering works?
You must not be a car enthusiast to not understand it.
Big block cars produced alot of torque compared to the small block ,and weight more, so the cars are front heavy and therefore dont trunk as well.
Basically it comes down to uneven weight distributions.
But they sure are fun to do burn outside in.
25th Anniversary Lambo's still cool but I think the nicer ones are the early 70's LP4000's and the LP5000's of the early 80's. @0:25 don't be that person, cars might be for you Kevin............... if you're buying one drive it and always be nice who ask questions, nothing can be more of a turn off of a brand of car or event is its owners. @3:20 that's a very expensive 944 turbo and the original silver phone dial rims are not on it as many were, 944's are a timing belt motor. needs to be changed and is a critical part of when buying something like as well getting a Pre Purchase Inspection done before buying. On the C2 Vetts for someone wanting to get into one get a 327ci V8 or the less powerful one the 427 is fast is not going to be for everyone and wanting more info on vettes start with N.C.R.S. , as with any investment ask for a 2nd opinion and please get a pre-purchase inspection done before buying ..........
But Mr.Wonderful
I have a doubt! Didn't you say Buying a car itself is a bad investment

Thanks for your commenting

I believe that to be true. She went to her daughters and got wind that her neighbor had a 1967 Mustang and was going to sell it.My wife bought it for my 65th birthday.Thru research, the Mustang was a one-of-one made in that year model.Kevin Marti certified the car thru his Ford Exclusive Files.Pd $4,500.00 value now $27,000.00.Great car, great wife, gonna keep’em both!
@Kevin O'Leary lets film an episode of ANSWRD. I'll fly anywhere in the country, just tell me when.
