    I have a cool video idea. You should gradually heat up a neodymium magnet to demonstrate what happens as it approaches the Curie point. After that, you could attempt to magnetize the magnet again.

  • @enceladus32

    I wouldn't say these tests are unscientific. If you're recording data, staying consistent with means of measurement, and repeating the tests, that's the whole idea of science.

      Thank you for noticing the work needed to make a video like this! It's not laziness when I only upload once a month at best ;) Not to mention I can't have these magnets loose near each other at the same time for safety reasons. So for every recording I had to unbox the magnet, do the test, put the magnet back in its storage container and store it before finding and unboxing the next magnet. Hours of tedious work for just a few seconds of clips for each magnet in the final video. But I enjoyed it :D

    It just feels so exciting when you upload a new video, Brian. Your magnet videos are what made me discover your channel and I just find them fascinating. Your "Elements vs Magnet" series is just the best series on your channel in my opinion and I've rewatched it a couple of times already. I myself love chemistry and the different elements that make up everything in the universe and the different reactions between them. Seeing those same elements react with a magnet, producing different results is just fascinating. Magnets, in general are just fascinating in how they work and how they react with their surroundings. I've said this once and I'll say it again, your channel just doesn't disappoint and the different videos from different fields of science really offer something to everyone. This was yet another great video from you Brian and it was nothing short of amazing. :)

      Yeah, it was about time, but I knew this video would be a lot of work to do, so... Once you have felt the power of neo magnets it almost feels like ferrite magnets are broken. The pull on the paper clip just seems wrong, but they simply aren't stronger than that :( Thanks for watching!

    Congratulations 200x50, and my consolations to the runners up!
    The ferrous magnet really helped put this into perspective.
    Have you mentioned previously how your camera's electronics are not affected by the strongest magnets? Are they simply far enough away, or are they protected/non-magnetic?

    • @brainiac75
      @brainiac75  6 років тому +1

      Exactly - the ceramic ferrite magnet was great for a perspective on the results from the neos. I protect my camera with distance and zoom in. I perform the tests on my floor to get some distance between the camera and magnets. The camera is on a more than 2 meter high tripod as you may be able to tell from the inverse compass test on the 200x50. This way I don't have to worry about the magnetic field's effect on the camera. Thanks for watching!

    While grade is important for photon density projection shape based on the shape of the magnet it’s self is important along with the distance and shape of north to south on that magnet

    Would be fun to throw tye big into an MRI. :) In fact, if one would force the Nd magnet oposite pole first then at some point the MRI would "win" and ruin the magnet. It would get demagnetized (or rather direction of the field at the crystaline level would get randomized) and turn into a block of junk. I've tried it with the HDD magnets. Had to trow them away afterwards.
    Also test the smartphone magnetometer and you'll be surprise just how sensitive it is. A stack of ferrite loudspeaker magnets will cause a change in the graph from 4 meters away.

  • @0xf7c8
    @0xf7c8 6 років тому

    Very nice video! But I should mention that the scale you are using contains ferromagnetic metals inside, which is reducing the measurement in proportion with the magnetic field involved. That is why you do not see so much change between magnets. You should use a long string and hold the scale by hand (it does not need to be static, or in a frame like you did here), after you measure the weight of the string and clip alone. This way you will get very different results.

    I was genuinely worried for your safety when working with a D200 magnet , that was much more interesting than I thought it would be , and I wonder how much weight can the D200 actually pick up , and also seeing the fact that you have to be more than two meters away from that magnets so your electronic doesn't get affected it was fascinating and little bit frightening

      Thanks :) I can't really test the total pull forces of these insane magnets. Neither can the manufacturer... As I remember it, their test rig maxes out at around 550 kg pull force and a D120-H20 magnet will do that. Magnetportal estimates the max pull force in a static setup with large steel drums to be around 1600 kg for the D200. No way I'll be able to confirm that! Happy Norooz then :D We are celebrating Easter here in Denmark at the moment. Nice with some time off to finish this video...

      Brainiac75 I was wondering if it would be possible for you to actually go to the facility where they make it and make a small video , and actually filmed the setup that they use for testing , Happy Easter and also happy 1st of April I thought you might do a joke video , may be next year 😄

      The magnets are made in China, so it's very unlikely I will ever visit a neodymium magnet factory. Though I would be like a kid in a candy store :D supermagnetman has a great, older video from such a factory: ua-cam.com/video/BHuWloNGo6c/v-deo.html
