    You need to either mark which singer is singing in the video or put the times on the video next to the names. You're kind of screwed if you lose your your place. The only way to find your way is to hear an immediately recognizable voice like Warren.

    MacNeil for sure. When he was in his mid 60's and the middle voice was a wobbly mess, he still had an A flat that could knock down a building. (There is some very weird tuning in some of these examples.)

I cantanti vanno sentiti in teatro ,inutile ripetercelo. Come un tempo non c ' erano , amplificazioni, riporti, microfonature . Era tutto suono assoluto. All' arena flegrea di napoli Guelfi nell ' aida lo sentivano a 2 km di distanza.Parlo degli anni 50/60

      Merrill's voice was maybe the most beautiful of them all, but he never had thundering G's and A flats. Mr. Bing let him transpose 'Il balen' down as he got older.

    Are you positive that the one for Cornell MacNeil was him singing? He must have been very ill because it doesn't sound like him at all. Warren is tough to beat. Verdi probably would have cringed at any baritone including a high B natural in this particular spot. After singing Rigoletto over 50 times, I can tell you that this is one of the most difficult endings for the baritone in all of opera. The stamina required for the role is daunting at best. Lots of sustained singing, lots of dramatic outbursts and plenty of high notes. My favorite role. I must say this, most of these examples were really good and I appreciate the examples being from live performances; they are the most revealing.

    I appreciate the effort, but if you went through the effort to put this together, why include so many garbage baritones, and exclude so many great ones that are even readily available on UA-cam - like Ruffo, Merrill, Bastianini, Tibbett, Granforte and Battistini? Of this entire list the only two that are really top notch are MaCneil, Warren, and the unknown Georg Petean. Also, are you sure the second one is Hvorostovsky? It sounds much bigger and different sounding voice than his - though it is also quite bad. Finally, there are plenty of awful ones to choose from, but I still Ingvar Wixell takes the cake for worst, because he alone skips the high note (highly uncommon in modern, though not in earlier times), sounds awful, and goes off key twice in this very short clip.

  • @darklord220

    Some great baritones, a lot of bad ones. MacNeil takes the cake. And Wixell is the worst, as usual.

  • @odgaucho
    @odgaucho 4 роки тому +1

    Horrible... Petean, Nucci, Cappuccilli, Milnes sound better and more confident than many tenors on their high notes. But other baritones. Why do they try to hit that notes (that were never written by Verdi as far as I know) and do it so heavy and bad?! I feel like they were going to die... it has nothing to do with the musicality at all...
