Most sensible cleaning advice for your violin.

One thing I have often thought about doing while I practice is this.:
Take a pure silk handkerchief and lay it across the violin and under the fingerboard. Then using some velcro or a small snap to hold it together under the instrument so that it doesn't fall off.
Then when you are playing a concert just take the silk off.
I thought that this would minimize rosin on the violin which is super important to me because I am totally blind, so I cannot see the rosin dust and I don't want a bad build-up.
What are your thoughts about this?

Here is the problem. There are no violin makers within hundreds of miles of most players and we don’t own heirloom instruments. We have no choice to but to diy and learn ourselves.

Hi Edgar ! I had a question about the fitting on my violin . It’s traditional ebony but I wanted to switch out the fitting with either boxwood or pernambuco . I was looking at Bogaro and Clemente and was very interested . I did notice it was very pricey , but the quality exceptional ? Could you do a review on their tailpieces and violin fittings ? Thank you so so much.

In the 196ties the violinists used F.M.B. made by GEWA advertised as "Violin-Polish and Cleaner". The last bottle I bought about mid 198ties. I still use it.
Do you know it? What is your opinion about it. Comments please.

      @@EdgarRuss Good evening!
I already did a thorough internet search on this matter but found nothing, even on the GEWA home page it was not mentioned.
Maybe an elderly colleage of your's might know it. On the old bottle there was a marking of a maker in New York USA if I remember well. If you are interested I can send you a picture of the bottle which I bought in München. I think I find your email address on your home page.
It removes colophonium quite well and makes a shiny surface. The smell of this tincture is very characteristic. It smells like ... violin.

I feel somewhat vindicated because I only carefully wipe it off with a soft cloth after I play.

Wow, some "advice." Wipe it off every day with a soft dry towel.
