CONTEXT:
Light has just used the Death Note to kill the fake L. L uses this information as well as the times that Kira kills his victims to claim that he believes that Kira is a student. Soichiro, head of the Kira task force at police headquarters goes home to talk to his son, Light, about what has been discovered, not knowing that his son is Kira. Light is appealing to his dad's ideals, to deter any suspicion.
