I just hope folks keep this same energy for this program once Justin leaves.
Exactly blacks always quick to support when a white person soon as it's black they always critiques and have problems sad.
U must never have heard of mobile Mardi Gras we have this a parade every year around this time.

David Williams I doubt it man. We gotta just be honest with this situation. It’s no denying that this band is great, but most of the attention is because a DM is white & he’s killing it.
Let’s just be honest here this program is a very good program but it only got the attention it did because of Justin. I just want folks to keep that same energy going forward.
Justin and his marching band friends have all said he works just as hard as everyone else...and Justin has said in interviews he is not the band and the entire band deserves credit...the comments about him being white and “stealing” are just wrong...he is a young man making his high school memories

I’m from New Orleans and did the same thing when I was in middle and high school. Trust me when I say it ain’t easy. You gotta have football level endurance to do this all Mardi Gras season long and keep in mind these parades are 12-15 miles long!!!!!

Why y’all like to attach color names to whites lol? Growing up myself, y’all called me “white mike” went to another school that was opposite and almost all white, don’t ever remember the few black kids there being called chocolate this or dark Dave or some shit.

It's not often that we see white people that are cool enough to us get nicknames so, when there is a white guy/girl that can hangout with us and embrace the culture, they get nicknames even if it's just "white boy" or, in his case, Vanilla funk which is kinda cool imo. And it also is about what we see on a daily basis. I don't know many white people in my area that can actually dance so when we see one, we give him or her a nickname

As a while dude who was “invited to the barbecue” as y’all say, I found it funny when I was labeled “white mike” laughed at it when I was younger, but educating myself now, I see the duality of how black culture lives through a racial lens e while telling others it’s not ok. Yes it is harmless, but it is birds view into a larger racial problem whites and blacks need to grow from. Until we all stop living through our race, we will never except equality in its pure and natural form. Just my 2 cents as the white guy who could chill with both sides and saw both y’all’s good and bad.
Im not sure how this came to my recommended vieos, but, im glad it did. This is an amazing band, led by 4 talented drum majors. I have searched and watched many of their videos. The entire band is awesome and talented. Congratulations to the band directors and the school, y'all have something to be very proud of!!!

My thighs are burning just watching! All the high steps and movement woo. They all deserved water and rest after that parade.
I’m from mobile. They do this every night for 2 weeks straight leading up to Fat Tuesday. Then it’s like 6 parade in a row. Good times.

He is clearly getting a lot of attention with people screaming his name and then going crazy when they do their routines. The guy is so serious and laser focused. They really unbelievable how disciplined they all are. This entire band is just unbelievable.
These are children enjoying what they love to do! Justin is not stealing anything, it’s a black band led by a black director and one of the drum majors happen to be white....what’s the problem?!
shirajai I am from Minnesota, I have two grandsons in marching band, I'm very intrigued how the styles of bands are so different! Until I first saw the video of JD I always thought the band and or marching band styles were the same. JD marching band has my total respect, they look and appear as a college band! And being white I never thought much about having a white Drum Major, they are all magnificent. I hope to see this band on you tube in the future, I can't get enough of them they are that good!

Debbie Cobb That band has the spirit it’s had since before this young man got there. I have no issue with him but I’m not gonna sit here and act like him or this band is anything special. High school band in New Orleans have been playing at college levels since I was a kid and it definitely wasn’t publicized the way this band is.
I know Justin has graduated but I enjoyed his leadership and showmanship. Anyone can tell these young people all worked hard.
This is a long Parade..I had the privilege to March Mardi Gras 3 times and it is physically draining! Props to this high school!!

He is absolutely amazing and everything I've read from him and seen has been nothing but respect and constantly making sure that he credits the band as one, not himself. He did work hard, but so do all the others. I wanted to say how bomb this BAND is as a whole. They are ALL what makes this so great. Not just the man leading.

The band performed very well lastnight! Their energy was on 1000 by the time they reached where I was standing which is near the end of the route. The kids were super excited and talked about the beads and who had more! It was a great experience for them and awesome entertainment for the parade goers. AND shout to the percussion section specifically the tenor drums! Those boys cut all the way up lol🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'm old and my legs hurt watching every one.how many miles do they march.all you parents front of parade to back of the parade must be so proud.

They are all very good and have to work really hard to be in sync. Give them the credit they deserve and stop worrying about who is what color...at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter. The entire band is very talented. love them!!!
All this talk about this young man for nothing. He gives props where it's due and he understands the culture. Also he said he wants to go to Auburn. Love they added some Dega to the style. It's high school and I applaud them all. They did a great job. Remember they kids mane.
They should be more supportive. They're doing and outstanding job. Most high school bands don't get this type of recognition. I'm sure that the band boosters are thankful!😂

The whole band is awesome. They sound freaking amazingly. They are on par with a college band. I’m worn out from watching. They performed the whole route.

I know how you feel sis, born and raised in Louisiana. And I haven't been back home since my mom passed 4 years ago. I miss watching Southern University band March down Canal St. I remember when I was little, we would be 4-5 blocks down from the band and I always knew when they were coming. St Aug used to pack a wallop too. I hate I've missed so many Mardi Gras seasons. Even in Metairie where I grew up, we used have parades on and near the Airline Hwy.
As an Australian, l just love watching these VERY talented young men and ladies for the first time, wowwwww. Well done, soo fit and just fantastic. 🙂🙂

Hats off to the band director for allowing this kid to lead a band that’s mostly black. Yeah Justin had to have worked his butt off to get there but I know there are community members not happy about it and he’s probably got some haters for it but this is what this nation needs more of. Awesome job by the band director, drum majors, and entire band. You have people like me from San Antonio watching this on UA-cam...

I really hate I did not come down last night to see this in person. I think they did an excellent job representing for our Mardi Gras & hope they continue to come & shine! They look awesome & in synch and you can tell they enjoy being band /auxillary . The tradition continues!!!!!

I swear every time I watch Jeff Davis I get jealous, cause my school doesn't do parades, we don't play out much, and our drum majors don't do half the stuff they can. Makes me wish I lived in Montgomery for the sole purpose to be performing in this ensemble

Mobile's Mardi Gras is a big thing. It's much more family oriented than New Orleans Mardi Gras. I'm not saying that's better or worse - it's just another way of celebrating.

Love this marching band! Where were all the ladies, only three?(not counting the flag ladies) the drums were fantastic, couldn't keep my feet still. The drum majors were fantastic to watch. I saw people complain about a white boy leading them, if they didn't want him there no matter how good he was he wouldn't have been in that position. That says a lot for the high school. Proud of you all!
Been watching their videos for couples more days now and it still amazes me how they all keep that stamina and energy! Hats off to y'all!

I’m blown away with his performance. I started watching college bands and I had this in my que. This is college level performance. I’m from Texas and I wish we had this kind of dedication and awesomeness.(lol). I love watching these young men and I’m exhausted for them 😂.
Y'all enjoy yourselves in the NOLA. I used to love traveling with our band in high school. My son traveled to England and Hawaii with his marching band. Memories that you'll always cherish.
Most people don’t know that and I was shocked to learn that Mardi Gras existed in mobile first 😆. New Orleans just brings it to another level , and ours is rooted in the cities culture all year around. Both cities do a great job in representing the true essence of Mardi Gras . I think New Orleans is More popular because of the culture ( food, Zulu balls, and we can drink alcohol without restriction that some states have ) enough said lol

They are a awesome band. It is a lot of hours in practice they put in. To sound and look this good on the football field and parade routes. I know, because I was in the band back in the 80’s. Congrats to all band members!!!!!! Keep it up.
I used to go to down town Atlanta parades just to see the black marching bands. They were beyond talented. These kids are also amazing. What energy. The band wow!!! Nothing like a marching band to get your heart racing. Justin is so fun to watch. All here are talented.

There's Xavier, the one I call "The Dancer". Really graceful, effortless and elegant in all his moves. I always say, all these kids are excellent; I'm sure they all work extremely hard to achieve such a high level of performance. Just have to give kudos to "The Dancer".

This is way cool!! My wife and I grew up in the 70's, 80's we had all kinds of friends in all races. I grew up in Cleveland. I learned how to dance like this young man in the front here. We found this video and thought about us growing up!! The dance moves!! Great job to these young people and Justin!!

Jeff Davis High needs to come to be invited to come to Chicago's own Bud Billiken Day Parade in August.

These clips have introduced me to the intricate world of marching bands. I really enjoyed this band's performances. So I searched for more bands. No HS works harder, that I've seen, prove me wrong!
As a proud band mom who daughter is now done. I want to give a huge shout out to the parents who support these amazing students.
You see then guarding horse poop and moving trip hazards. They are just as dedicated.
I marched in competition with JDavis. I was in a smaller class. JDavis was in top largest classes in all competitions. 25 years ago and they were still a force then and now they carry on the tradition. Well done everyone! I hope everyone was presented with a college scholarship.
