    Everyone is not a candidate for implants. Therefore, if we do not want dental implants, the alternatives are, one, do nothing, that is, we live with the gap. Number two is we can do a partial denture, so a little plate that comes in and out. Number three is we if you have adjacent teeth on either side, we can do a bridge, which means we cut teeth on either side and put a fixed bridge in. All of these have problems. For example, if we do nothing, you might have issues chewing or if it's the front tooth, you wouldn't wanna smile.
    If you do partial dentures, they're good that they're quite conservative and cheaper than implants, but unfortunately, some people never get used to the plates. As far as bridges are concerned, I personally am not a huge fan of bridges because we have to damage pretty much good teeth sometimes, on either side and if something fails in the future, instead of that one gap that you had, you might end up with three gaps. This is my opinion on it, but, yes, sometimes we have to go with the alternatives.

    Thank you, I really appreciate the honesty. These days it seems like every dentist is trying to push implants.

      With implants costing thousands a pop and making dentists really rich, for relatively little work, I don't think us punters will ever get an honest answer to that question.

    Just what I wanted to hear! My dentist wanted to do a bridge on #7, meaning 6&8 which are perfect, are too get shaved down post,core,bamCROWNS on 2 perfect teeth. I couldn't do it. I also needed a rct (I'm dental front desk, pt assist) on #7 which I didn't even know I fent zero sensation. So I said ok just extract and I'm going to get a partial. (12 was also pulled years ago) add that to the partial your not ruining my Good teeth. I'm wondering. Why is this a thing? Why would a medical Dr want to destroy perfect teeth. And for the bridge it was one of my very front (#8) teeth I couldn't imagine that. I see pts come in all the time with crowns in a box (fallen out) and needing re cemented in. It would lead to the only other option which is implants I feel. Idk but I am so happy I seem to have found a honest dentist. ☺

      People who come in with a crown in a box had a tooth that was badly broken down, and crowning it was a last resort. It lacked sufficient structure to hold the crown well. Your perfect tooth, while being reduced to hold the crown as part of the bridge, would have great cementing surface. It never would come loose. Yes, I'm a retired dentist. Seen millions of 'em. The bridge is superior by far to a removable partial, assuming the adjacent teeth are not badly broken down.

    I have a missing molar on each side and want a partial denture but am hetting pushed to get implants. Why? People have been earing dentures forever, why aren't dentists recommending them?

    • @jerryegge1732
      @jerryegge1732 11 місяців тому

      Fully half of all lower dentures sit in a drawer. When you chew, food squirts to the sides of the teeth. You reflexly throw it back up on the teeth. Naturally, with food sticking to the lower denture, you throw it back up, too. Some people learn to hold the denture down with their tongue and cheeks, while maneuvering the food. The rest leave them out. They stink, for the most part. People would come in with a bag of dentures that they couldn't make work. I couldn't either.
