People are out and about having mixed feelings about the Joker’s look, meanwhile I’m sitting here with whiplash from seeing Clayface with a … FACE. And one that isn’t just a temporary disguise at that. Had to quickly re-watch the claylist to reset my brain. 😂
My personal head theory is that the princess and Harley are actually parallel dimension versions of each other.
That might explain the weird dream stuff we saw in early episodes.

As far as different Joker designs go, I kind of dig it. At the very least, it would be fun to cosplay. The show has been fun so far. I don't know if it will get me into anime, but again, I kind of dig it.

My favorite Joker/Harley dynamic is the idea that she never was truly an innocent person. That maybe the Joker didn't do anything to her other than encourage her worst self to shine through. Less about corruption of the innocent and more of empowering of the flawed. This makes her later face-turn not a redemption or a return but a point of growth. She is growing beyond not just the Joker but beyond the facade of "Dr. Quinzel". This leaves plenty of room for the Joker to actually like her and also be horrible to her.
On a related note, I also like ideas such as Joker and Harley actually working well together to rival Batman and Robin, as well as the fact thay and may only be playing up the "toxicity" just cuz they view traditional romance as "too boring and/or unfunny".

Just like a joke gone on too long, I am _sick_ of DC Writers trying to one-up each other by portraying Joker as "the ultimate messed up psycho" when there are _so many_ other villains more deserving of that title and having to out do each other in terms of the messed up things he does. Heck, he's alrwady become a god and threatened the fricking multiverse for crying out loud what more can they do!?! Doing so just makes Joker, the so-called "unpredictable clown of chaos and agent of anarchy" ironically predictable and orderly.
Joker's Acts should vary just like his backstory, some times he goes one way sometimes another, and if he's ever going to have a label (be it villain, hero, anti-hero, anti-villain) he prefers it to be multiple choice.
One day his crimes might actually be disturbing, harmful, and dangerous, the next it's just harmles trolling, pranks, and funnies for the lolz. Maybe he commits a crime like trying to have his won money, food, fish, cosmetics, or some other product just for the sheer ridiculousness of it. Additionally his personality should reflect the unpredictability, and make you unsure of whether ir nor he is a genius, madman, or a lucky dummy.

My hot take: Ayer's and Leto's aesthetic choices aside, i dont mind Leto's Joker. Although I know im probably the only person who likes Joker as a petty criminal and not as a Hannibal-esque personification of evil/madness. That's been done to death, IMO.
Last saturday in October 2018, I was on a tube train in London. I got up to get off at my stop. Then happened to notice someone sitting nearby who was dressed exactly like the Leto Joker. It was an amazing bit of cosplay as the makeup and everything was spot on. And nobody was paying him any attention. But that's Londoners for you.

I have been watching this on Max and it randomly skipped dubs on some episodes but they also went back and added dubs to some. Yesterday episode 5 didn't have a dub.
I fail to see how this Joker would be a rival to Batman, let alone be a terrifying presence to Gotham's Underworld.

Joker's design really does pair so well with this Harley's design, which is part of the reason I love it- it's got the overall design, but it's given an edgy hot topic look fit the role of Hot Topic Harley bf. Also, the "jester cap" hoodie design is so cute. No shame in wanting it, Sasha! Anyways, it's been a fun series so far. Hard to rate Episode 4 vs the first 3, because as you note, the first three were really just a triple-length premiere chopped into three pieces, rather than three distinct episodes; but it was a good episode. Set more things up but still wrapped up the immediate plot points nicely.
Though I do wonder how the rest of the series will be paced. From the intro, we know there's the Enchantress, the Thinker, and some sort of other villain (perhaps... is it a version of Joker? Perhaps an "Emperor Joker"?), along with Katana. And of course Waller herself, probably in some capacity. All to be dealt with in 6 episodes. They'll have to go quick.
I just like that the joker seems to genuinely like Harley in this show
Calling it right now. One of the members of the previous suicide squad was Poison Ivy, and she met the princess. When they met, Ivy talked about her friend Harley, and the princess is comparing/contrasting what she heard vs what she sees.
I hope if DC does another anime series like this, they do it with Teen Titans or Young Justice. 💜💥
Teen Titans would translate very well into anime I feel. Hell, the classic Cartoon Network show is very anime-influenced.
I've wanted a true young justice adaptation for *so* long now. The only adaptation we got starred more Teen Titans than it did YJ heroes. Even with the one hero they picked who was *actually* on Young Justice, they picked the blanderized Teen Titans version. (Oh T-Shirt Kon, how I hate thee.)

It's like there's two Harley Quinn's right now. There's the one that wears her classic costume and loves the Joker, The Jokers nice to her and any notion that their relationships abusive is severely downplayed or swept under the rug. And there's the one who was abused by The Joker but left him and started wearing really skimpy outfits and while they make it clear The Joker is a Bastard they downplay what she went through and how it effected her to passing references and never let her be too vulnerable because they saw some fan art and are desperately trying to convince people they're not sexualising abuse.
I'm kinda worried that's gonna happen to Angel Dust and Valentino next.
But those are two halves of one whole and if it's always gonna be one or the other she's never really gonna be herself again.

FYI, marvels comics has already being introduced to the rest of the world in 1990s. I remember owning several marvels comics up until 1998.

1. How long was this "project" in production? Which year?
2. Who is the rights holder for this IP? Is it a new one or the the same old?
3.How is the OG's character depicted in this medium? What is the reason for this brand to made in this medium? Why? 4. Did the OG's characters change to how they was depicted in the previous medium to the way it is depicted now? What's the purpose?
5. Who is the target audience?
I understand marketing needs to draw in new fans/audience a new generations arrive. I think western creatives have an issue of letting an IPs dies. And that in the end have left the American with almost no IPs of notable impact on fans in America and the rest of the world.
I'd prefer it if Clayface doesn't even have a bomb in his neck and is just doing this for kicks or the acting challenge or whatever.

There's this and a follow up to Batman Ninja incoming.
The characters really feel very much like DC faces plastered over Japanese tropes to me. Joker is the broody badboy, clayface is the goofy narcissist, king shark is the fat guy and so on...
Not that that's really a terrible thing but the whole thing does really feel very by the book to someone who is familiar with the tropes, which I guess is what they're going for.
I do like the bonnie and cylde/partner in crime / us vs the world version of harley and joker
It's funny how "turn the enemy against each other" became "stop the enemy from doing what they're doing"
They're really bending backwards to give Harley and Joker any credit for something

While I understand that they're toning down the isekai part some to keep it a bit more "grounded" in the DC universe and they're holding the DC part back a tad to try to offer the isekai part an opportunity to influence the story more, maybe it's because I've been on an anime binge recently (especially isekai) but I'd rather they go _harder_ with one or both, especially the isekai half and build up that world some more almost to the point where it might even be indistinguishable from a DC Elseworld (for better or worse) instead of being as generic as it is. DC is full of peeps who have semi-regularly experienced international travel, interstellar travel, interdimensional travel, and on the rare occasion time travel, and somehow you have this Task Force X completely unfamiliar with the idea of being in this otherworld just because it has a high-fantasy D&D aesthetic they weren't expecting? To me that seems the most comparatively unrealistic thing about the premise, which is probably why I'm rooting for this version of Clayface, the most genre savvy character of the bunch, to be this isekai world's inevitable "destined hero" over Harley, bar none.
Also, in b4 Joker is the villainous emperor.

Sasha, I have been meaning to ask, where are you watching this show? The dub is region locked and not available in the US, and I don't know what Warner is streaming Isekai on in Canada.
Yeah, the Canadian struggle is real I've had a VPN for some time now. Hulu is prob the easier of the main streamers to get the dub, but Max is supposed to catch up soon.
Honestly a lot of the Clayface stuff reminds me of characters like Kazuma who recognize the genre and openly expect things to follow the narrative tropes, only to look like idiots to the people around them.
Comic fans will always find a reason to hate on something. It's exhausting and such a turn off for anyone with an interest in the medium.
I still think they should have given Joker actual sharp teeth. Instead of the painted ones.

From the beginning I've been wondering about the way this Isekai portal is opened - that is by "her" that Amanda Waller rejects as a person but as just a tool - and I'm wondering if it could not be a mental construct by that metahuman, and the similarity of Harley and Fione that she might have been treated by Dr. Harleen Quinzel. Some kind of AMandavision (the heck, even Clayface asking Fione about the origin of her name, made me try to figure out if that couldn't be a name made of letters that one could see with other letters obstructed FI********* *******ONE - no success) Also the first squad has a leader we can partially see in the end of ep1 (that seems to wear shorts and belt not unlike HQ herself) and Enchantress is kinda semi transparent there. Anyway, I'm intrigued
Isekai without Truck-Kun??? Well yes, there are several types of Isekai, which doesn't mean reincarnation, it means 'Other World' or 'Other Worldly'. This is an example of PORTAL Isekai, which is one of the oldest forms of this genre out there. That being said, I can't get the image of Harley and the Joker managing the local Hot topic...
I'm on board with this. It's an anime but it has some of that WB animation cartoony tone to it
I'm a sucker for the egoïst kind of character Clayface is, I am a big fan of how they're handling Deadshot, King Shark is triggering my daddy instincts, Ratcatcher was fun, Harley is eh so not bad, the world building seems to be going for a bit of nuance, and there's urgency due to the bombs.

Elaborated... I should clarify. I've become fond of the HQ animated series that is still running. So much so, that I'm looking fwd to Kiteman. So to me, this feels restrained. I'd almost have wished they took Harley out of this incarnation and placed someone else in the squad. I'm vibing on her and Ivy's place in the DC universe right now. This might have been something PowerGirl could have taken on better.

I'm early for once so I'll leave my thoughts. As someone far more into anime than DC, and who really enjoyed the "old" DC animated stuff (90s to late 2010s) I'm meh on this series.
I do think it's definitely getting overhated (so many things are these days), but I also think it's just ok so far. I've seen a decent amount of Isekai and I don't dislike the genre but I'm also not jumping at it (I do have several isekai that I consider goated though). So far this series has felt pretty run of the mill or generic despite its zanyness, which does make sense considering it's meant to be an introductory bridge series. However idk how necessary it's bridge building is, in my experience comic nerds and anime nerds overlap a lot, so I don't feel like they needed to go for as generic an Isekai setting as they have so far. Basically I'm only watching atm because a DC anime is a unique thing and this season is light on Anime for me, not because I'm invested. It has it's charms but has yet to hook me.
Just as a heads up: Check the studios on that "old" DC animated stuff. As for Suicide Squad Isekai -- I think the reason for all the hate is because it IS 'just okay' in such a way that makes it the worst thing it could be...and probably some of the reasons I passed on it are causing problems.
You see, I passed on it because it looked from the character designs alone like it was an American production just that put more effort than usual into its cargo cult imitation of anime. I was getting the feeling that a lot of what was going on was the same thing likely behind CMX, DC's old manga imprint -- which had that air of flailing about that goes with when upper management went "What is hot with the youth?" and just kind of flailed about. (I am legit surprised to see that CMX made it ~5-6 years.) Besides, if the aim was bridge-building? I'd have just handed Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld to the Japanese side & given them as much freedom as possible with her. Given that she's canonically a magical girl/princess from a fantasy world exiled to a world of superheroes...the Japanese will likely have a better idea how to handle her than the West ever has, anyway. (And since she IS a reverse isekai, she's a way to introduce the mainstream DC characters to the Japanese audience smoothly--because she'll be meeting them for the first time herself in-universe.)

Aside from that; the feeling that I've been getting while watching SSI is that it has been made by people who mostly only have a general idea of who the characters are, and that they are trying to translate that general idea into Japanese stereotypes. I believe that's why this iteration of Clayface acts the way he does, the makers know that he is an actor and that he never was very successful, so they looked for the Japanese stereotype of how a person like that would be, a dramatic attention-hungry narcissist with a bit of a false/fabricated sophisticate attitude, and that's what they made him to be. And then there are the others: Harley is the bad punk girl, Deadshot is a rude criminal, Waller is a ruthless mastermind... Which is a coincidence, but still... And Flag is basically "American soldier type A", you know, sort of mostly generic type of military guy from the U.S. from the point of view of Japan. Peace Maker on the other hand can only be described, from my point of view, as "hardas$", hyper-focused psycho, but he doesn't particularly reminds me of any stereotypical Anime character, neither does King Shark, whom somehow ended up as comedy relief. Could the second Suicide Squad movie be to blame for this? IDK.
Also, even though the plan to beat Ratcatcher was actually a good one, I didn't really see how could Harley make the connection between what she saw The Joker do to those thugs and what they had to do to defeat Ratcatcher. There's a general feeling of "let's make the beast-men turn against him", but it seems too faint from my point of view.
And before I forget, I guess this Joker is the criminal, not the clown or the comedian. IDK.
