    Brilliant video. The road trains make our trucks in the Uk 🇬🇧 look like toys.

    I wanted to drive trucks across Australia's open roads. I got my HR license as its the heaviest I could get straight from a car.
    The only jobs I was eligible for were city driving....bugger that.
    Bought a HR truck after selling everything I had and worked as an owner operator all across Australia.
    The size of these big road trains are incredible and you have to stand next to one to really get a grasp on how massive they are.
    At truck stops fuelling up the road trains idling shakes the air in your lungs.

      It seems that with the wankers in control, you have to graduate THROUGH the crap. Sad …. but hang in there my friend, you'll make it.

      Have you ever driven road trains…….. you need to earn the rite, there’s enough peanuts on the road as it is without allowing someone with no experience to operate a road train.

    At 2:20 we see Bulkline Haulage's Volvo. Well that truck's numbers are unbelievable. She tows a so called Mega Quad four trailer set, which is 60 meters (!!!) long. When loaded, the combination weighs a whopping 234 tonnes. The prime mover is a specially built FH16 700 twin steer, five axle monster. You're pretty fortunate you could capture this amazing beast. Of course the other road trains are breathtaking too. Auski Roadhouse is always busy, that place is the truck lovers' Heaven. :)

    I was on the firt road from Port Augustas to Cooper Peedy 50 years ago when i saw a plumb of dust well into the distance. I knew to stop and prepare for what was a real experience being passed by one of these behemoths on the dirt.I got all wet rags around any openening waited for it to pass. I thought I was a goner for sure.

    What a lot of people don't understand about these trucks is that it's 'DISTANCE' …. 'ECONOMY' …. and just out and out 'ENDURANCE' that matters. Speed has nothing much to do with it. It is NOT uncommon for most of these trucks to clock up 1 million MILES, have sleeve changes and then clock up another million miles. I believe that some machines are now into their 3rd millionth mile adventure. THAT is the stunning wonder about these machines. If you look after these machines, they are almost un-killable.

      You're 100% correct. Unfortunately with the steering wheel attendants who can only operate an auto or synchronised gearbox nowadays good operators who are leaving the game are being replaced with incompetent drivers.

      Most road legal combos max out out at four, five in some areas. It’s done more on length, with most highways allowing up to 53 meters. Areas with a lot of mining will allow up to 60 meters to get more dirt moved.

      @@darylcheshire1618 the largest in the U.S. are triples. Double 47' run in most of the country. I'm not sure if the triples are 47' or 40-53'. They don't run in my part of the country (Southeast).

    I dimly recall that the prime mover has to use a large engine of a certain size by law and can’t use a wimpy engine to cut costs.

    • @HJZ75driver
      @HJZ75driver 3 роки тому

      Nope

    • @lord0jackostar
      @lord0jackostar 2 роки тому

      No legal limits on the engine, just practical. A wimpy engine will not move a loaded combo on flat ground; let alone get it up even a small hill. They need big engines for heavy loads and large hills.

      Everything from autos to the big road rangers (crash boxes). Kilometres per litre will vary wildly depending on load, length, temperature, and engine; but most will carry 1000+ litres of fuel and expect to get at least 700+ kilometres to a tank.
