- My Theatrical Trailer for Samuel Fuller's White Dog (1982)
Paramount never released this film in the U.S. so there was never an official trailer made.
This was my attempt at trying to create a theatrical trailer for the 1982 film.
An excellent film that deserves more recognition.
You can purchase the film at

FINAL EDIT: corrected spelling on producer Jon Davison.
Good job. All the negative comments about this film being racist are from people who obviously haven't seen it. It's that same thinking that got the film shelved. Again, good job.
you've quoted the wrong film, you're thinking of "Coming To America"
i remember watching it when i was 4 back in 96 on syfy
OldeSkool1 what an awful thing to say and to have this film destroy this beautiful dog , just because it happened to be white? Who created this garbage film? Hollywood? Is Hollywood racist? You tell me.
@@annecohen8927 lol...wait... u think the dog is being 'destroyed' because its white n not because its destroying other lives... Think I've found the racist karen guys...
@@irishbrother5303 - Go back to Europe.
The score by Ennio Morricone provides a haunting mood throughout the Film. White Dog was as chilling as it was depressing and Paul Winfield was terrific as Keys, the dog trainer. I don't understand why White Dog was regarded as a racist film when it initially came out. The entire film is bent on calling out a racist culture which would lead a dog into being trained to target African-Americans.
Exactly.
This movie went unreleased because the studio felt it would be too controversial; film critics said, “Very powerful film; McNichol is splendid and should get an Oscar nod.” She was heartbroken that she and the film didn’t get the recognition they deserved.
The film was indeed controversial, and people like me should not watch it. I have to confess I feel guilt. I'm Hispanic and I did something like this with my dog (a Rottweiler) to make him attack white people. Once I stopped hating whites, I had to take my dog to a special trainor to disadjust him. The dog is fine now, but it took almost a year to cure him from all the hate I put in him against Caucasians.
@@Cerdo_asquerosoBut Hispanic isn't a race and feom your profile pock you look white.
The movie was also produced when KKK activity was on the rise and there was a fear that the movie would incite increased racial violence. That was one of the reasons why it was shelved.
The white german shepherd is cute.
German Shepherds are one of my favorite dogs.
I watched this movie on tv many years ago, it was a roller coaster of emotions for me.
"How did that dog learn such behavior?"
"We found him in Chicago."
"Whoa. Enough said."
More like we found him in a white suburban neighbourhood tho
Or Detroit
How did the black people in Chicago or Detroit become the way they are? Because they were conditioned by the same devil's that conditioned that dog.
Haha, Chicago, uproarious
No one is born racist. One is educated to be racist or non-racist.
That is exactly the whole point of this movie, that is the alagory. You train a dog the same way you educate a person, its nurture rather than just nature.
that is the strong message of the movie!
The original Get Out.
good movie. Goes to show that animals including people are not born to hate but taught to hate.
And what an awesome score by Ennio Morricone.
I saw this as a kid and I still get chills
This is one artistic film. Highly recommended, especially for those that can see the bigger context this films presents. Oh, and great job on the trailer! You captured the plot of the film very well.
This would kill in the theaters in America now!
Came here after She’s Gotta Have it. Thanks Spike Lee for the introduction
Same it's such a good show

This is the most TV movie looking movie in the history of movies that wind up being released on TV. ✊
it wasn't shown in the US. paramount pulled the show before being released, because of pressure saying it was racist. it was released only overseas in theatres. later it was a part of a dvd collection of movies and was finally shown on tv in 2008. notice it was made in 1981.
That's an online rumor. I watched it on cable tv in my teens, late 1980s or early 90s. It aired multiple times. I think it was the Lifetime channel.
@@mad4nertz Same here, I saw this movie on TV in the 80's or 90's. I think it was the 80's. Sad movie. Lots of metaphors in this.
I saw it when it came out. In America
It was played in the 90s too. I was about 7 or 8years old when I saw it.
@@mad4nertz Ditto. I'm from North QLD Australia and I saw it in 1989 I think...it was school holidays, and back THEN the T.V stations never altered their programming for it. I was like six years old!!!
is this a movie about a los angeles sheriff department k-9
This is a great film. It's a shame that it's not a very well-known movie, as it deserves to be, and that it hasn't been seen by more people. I guess a lot of that has to do with the fact that it was shelved in this country after it was completed because it was deemed a racist movie, which, of course, it absolutely is not. I've only seen it once, years ago (I actually need to watch it again), but I loved it. Kristy McNichol is one of my favorite actresses (so I try to see everything that she has done), and Paul Winfield gives a superb performance in it. His acting in the scene in the church was unforgettable.
That's because it would have given racist people ideas
@@damianlatimer5753 You're a fucking idiot.
@@Eye533 First of all, I am not a racist person, whether you're implying that, or outright explicitly saying it. Secondly, I don't think that this movie advocates racism in the slightest. If anything, most viewers will be horrified by the attacks on the black characters in the movie (as I was), and recognize that it is wrong that the dog was trained to attack in that way. It's a true shame, and more than a little scary, what is happening in this country right now. That freedom to tell history as it actually was concerning the plight of African-Americans, could potentially be suppressed in classrooms. And that interesting and thought-provoking stories, be it in written form, or told on film, could be suppressed as well.
@@loveanimals6981in my opinion the fact that the dogs life is repeatedly put before black lives, health, and safety is the flagrant racism in this film. This is literally a movie where the emotional recovery of a canine is put before the safety of black lives. For this reason I am a black person who considers this film racist.
@@Eye533 you wanna know why you’re an idiot because this film is just like Get Out and Candyman where it shows racism creates monsters of humanity. So it’s obviously you’ve never seen it you’re just here to be ignorant
This movie is used the dog as a metaphor for the societal ills of racial prejudice.

Absolutely!! I’m still moved by this movie and I haven’t seen it for 30 yrs. The trailer brought all that emotion back.
Agree. I rented it once and got thinking so much about it. I am seeing it again. There is a special power in this movie.
Ya I saw the movie about 2 decades ago and I still remember the point of the story. Pretty good movie to stick with me that long.
@@GeeMTeaa no way those movies are so lame
Electric fence scene, 2:07 , of course in this movie, meant for any and all the creatures in the area it was around. Our 1970s pet, an exact double of this movie star dog of 1980s, required a higher SOUTH-fence. Its height proved useless in keeping him. Like free to roam, at will.
The feed store we used for 'Dancer'. Held the answer, horse's supply came in handy for the horse-sized dog. Contained a box, with a long wire for stringing over some yardage (I'm thinking, no more complaints, I could snip the wire to fit the escape route.) There was quite,
a length of the
hot wire idea.
Saw this on late night cable as a kid. It was the first film that truly taught me about racism. At 38 years old I was starting to think I had dreamed it.
Xlnt work ! Kudos ! Well done ! Looks like a professionally done theatrical trailer ! Always nice to see Burl Ives !
I wouldn’t mind seeing Jordan Peele do a remake of this.
The film is about racism, its taken parts from a true story. Human can be cruel and evil, animals trained to kill but whitout knowing why, in the end the dog turned his anger to white man, just like the white man who trained him to attack black people. This film is symbolic and its always make me cry

The most anti racist film i've seen, simply brilliant. If you're for equality amongst races this is a must see.
there is no equality between dog breeds
I think American History X is the best anti racism film personally.
You're insane.
With the music score by the Great Ennio Morricone :)
I didn't know that, when I saw this in my teens in cable tv in Connecticut. I've since learned to appreciate EM as one of the best, but I do remember being highly affected by the filmscore.
There's a lot of truth to this film. My dog who actually was white. Half cocker spaniel half beagle. We lived in a bad neighborhood at the time, and one night we noticed our door was left open, for some reason that is a calling card that you've been robbed. I've even seen car doors left open after being stolen from too. Anyway, my dog had blood on his face near his eye, we all came to the conclusion that he was kicked. Obviously we didn't know the race of the people that robbed us, but afterwards whenever my dog saw a black person he went crazy and started barking. So ya, this movie is very true.
Rest in peace, Curtis Hansen.
Its funny that i found out about this movie by looking up "dogs from movies” , because i wanted to name my dog after an old classic.
*This* dog was listed under "Racist white german Sheppard”
... so obviously i had to check out the trailer.
Where can one, hypothetically that is, purchase a dog like this?

I was wayyy to young to even know what this was, but I remember the description of it gave me chills. Where do you even find a full copy?
Not sure where you can find it. I have seen this movie several times on TV back in the 80's. It's a very sad movie, but the dog is like a sort of metaphor for people raised in deeply rooted racist beliefs. At least that's how I saw it. If you can find it, it's an interesting movie, but it's sad and a bit depressing.
You can find a full copy courtesy of The Criterion Collection.
I saw this film today and it is really, really good. :)
I bought this on VHS from off the web in the very early days of the internet. It's absolutely hilarious IMO! The super-canine, White Dog!
Dammit, man! 100 dead black men is worth the price if we can finally cure 1 white dog of racism!
Just in which way could this film be "hilarious"?
I'm trying to remember if this is the last film Samuel Fuller directed? And why the Criterion Collection release of this is only on DVD and not blu-Ray.
Nice editing, great job! I saw this and didn't know it was fan made.

Underrated classic.
One of my favorites when I was 8 yr old
THE WAY TO CURE THAT DOG IS TO GIVE HIM POPEYE'S FRIED CHICKEN OR KFC. GIVE THAT DOG SOME POPEYE'S FRIED CHICKEN OR KFC AND HE'LL LOVE YOU.
I just watched it and it was great! The ending was awesome! The dog should have won an Oscar! But some flaws, the black trainer's explanation for wanted to deprogram the dog thinking it could be a cure for racism or whatever that malarkey was, or calling it a "racist dog", that was silly. A dog can't be racist. It can only be trained to attack a human based on appearance and a variety of other triggers, but a dog doesn't understand "hatred". Only fear. It could have been a better story if it delved a little deeper into some other ideas. For a second, it almost seemed like the veterinarians (the nurse had what sounded like a German accent) knew what the dog was, as they may have known the original owner as a local breeder. It's no secret that there is some type of a Neo-Nazi presence in LA, The Aryan Brotherhood in the prisons, ect... but it didn't go there. And Keys, the black animal trainer spoke as if he had experience with this before. And after his black co-worker was attacked, he showed his scar from a previous attack by a "White Dog" at 14 years old, suggesting that there may have been other dogs trained like that in Hollywood or wherever he was from (The South?). I get that this was an over the top movie, but it dreadfully lacked realism at times. Especially when Kristy McNichol who loved the dog so much and so desperately wanted to find a cure for its "racism" suddenly changed her mind after it killed a random black man and shouts "I want you to shoot him now before he kills more blacks!" Errrr, cringey!
I've seen the movie a couple times on TV yrs ago. It was very sad to me. I'm from California and I felt that the dog had been trained by neo Nazis or even the KKK. There was still people like that in the area in the 80's, (I was born in the late 60's) so maybe that's where the idea came from, is my guess. Not to mention the dark history of the LAPD and using dogs to attack black people.
But, Kristy's change of heart didn't feel disingenuous or cringe, I think no matter how much you love your dog if you actually saw it kill someone and had that slain man's blood all over it, you would react the same way. People have killed their own dogs for attacking other people, why would her reaction be any different? I had a friend who's dog went to attack their neighbors toddler and they put that dog down the next day. They were torn up over it, but they were in shock their dog tried to kill a little kid.
If flipper was a racist then how come dogs cant?
Art isn't about if the facts are right but the highet concept it's trying to explore. The dog is simply a metaphor of racism in general and if it can be unlearned.
People must have been really thick at the time to think this was a racist movie that needed to be banned.

Very thought provoking film. The moral of the story is racism/hatred is an incurable mental disorder & i firmly believe that.
I disagree
Racism is just pattern recognition mixed with tribal instinct. Every race should put the advancement of their own people first and most do. We can still be friendly with other races but ourselves, our familes and our racial groups are something we should defend when attacked.
What makes them think he was trained?
Maybe he just walked into the wrong neighborhood once and learned from experience.
