Pat Martino was a genius who taught about “Symmetrical Parental Forms”. On the guitar, the Augmented triad and the Diminished 7th chord act as “parental forms” in that they are easy to fret, and to use as starting points for forming other chord types. Only Martino noticed this “automatic” aspect of the guitar.
Pat spends most of his dough paying watchmakers to take the extra links of his metal watch bands... Ok...sorry. I'm just jealous of his trim look. Pat, I'm making you a peanut butter, banana, milk, honey and wheat germ shake right now. Well, there's trim, and then walking by a poolhall and somebody tries to chalk you up...
I found Diane Dayton's interviewing style incredibly irritating, with far too many mm hms, and other fillers, but I have to hand it to her, she let the great man speak. May his soul rest in peace.
Legend. Literally no one like Pat Martino.
wow. this man is just as good with or without the guitar. great stuff, indeed.
Pat is so intelligent and well-spoken. I love listening to these reflections and observations as much as I love listening to his playing.
