  • In this lesson, I look at the biography of J.D. Salinger, and the social and historical context of America in the 1950s when 'Catcher in the Rye' was published.
    There are some wonderful UA-cam sites that I visited (and I'm sure there are many that I missed). I thoroughly recommend.

    It is not possible that The Catcher in the Rye, and that passage in particular, could inspire anyone to murder someone. It's not there, not in the feeling, nor the character, nor the story.
