  • Major Hurricane Beryl remains a Category 4 hurricane as of July 3rd. It's currently just south of Jamica, bringing dangerous storm surge and damaging winds to the southern coastline. The entire island will face severe flooding.
Beyond Jamaica, all models agree on continued weakening and a landfall on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula early on Friday, July 5th as a low-end hurricane.
By Saturday, Beryl emerges over the Bay of Campeche. This is when the forecast becomes tricky. It all depends on the strength of the trough over the central US. the subtropical ridge over Florida, and the strength of Beryl itself. A stronger trough over the central US would be able to "grab" Beryl and pull it northward into Texas. A weaker trough would allow Beryl to continue westward into Mexico.
A stronger ridge over Florida would continue pushing Beryl westward into Mexico.
Also, a stronger Beryl would be able to "feel" the trough more and be pulled northward into Texas. A weaker Beryl would not and continue westward into Mexico.
Basically, anyone from northeast Mexico to Louisiana should keep a close eye on this hurricane.
