  • Stone Mountain is a popular Georgia tourist attraction with a complicated past and an even more complicated future as a Confederate monument. Dr. Kaniqua Robinson breaks down this site within the context of cultural anthropology and the idea of "collective memory" to help inform ideas about the mountain's future. Dr. Kaniqua Robinson is an applied cultural anthropologist whose research focuses on race, memory, and the U.S. criminal justice system. She received her Ph.D. from the University of South Florida in 2018. In her research, Dr. Robinson employs ethnographic methods in her work on the politics of memory and how Black communities experience and actively resist racial inequalities. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
