Yalls take on Derozan is confusing. On one side the critique around our last year's team was a lack of offensive rebound. We literally couldn't buy a shot if we wanted to. Which necessitated that we be better at offensive rebounding. Derozan is by far the best perimeter scorer in the nba and yall try to compare him to Westbrick. Yall tripping for not wanting to get Derozan cause he shoots 33% from the 3. Bro is light out everywhere else and getting him helps negate how many offensive rebound we give cause we actually making buckets.
I agree. This dude hates DeMar but he is clearly better than every other player on the Lakers outside of AD and Bron. Most of his shots are at the rim or long 2s (which are almost like 3s). One of the best 4th quarter players and clutch players in the league .

Even if we wanted to get the right role players we don't have the cap or room without a trade. Are we willing to trade assets for marginal role players? There aren't many two-way players nowadays and even less that are available.

Agreed. Lakers need to focus on fit and age, not NAME ... work on "balancing out roster". I would be sad to trade both Dlo and Rui. However, I do see the limits of both. Dlo's defense and Rui's fit next to LB.
In the case of Dlo, pair him with a Caruso/KCP clone and I think we are fine. A Dlo/Reeves backcourt is a defensive issue in the playoffs.
I do like getting both CamJ and DFS. I would like to avoid giving multiple FRPs. Unlike the rest of the NBA and maybe even most Laker fans, I do value our players like Dlo and Rui. I do worry Nets will want a similar multiple FPP haul like their NYK deal for Mikel Bridges.
Only sign Demar. No S&T. I also hope LB would be open to using the MLE for other than "name" players.

Lakers should get both Cam Johnson & Dorian Finney Smith they need those type of players it’s hard to want to keep Dlo just because he carry’s a good scoring role during the regular season.
It’s like he’s been with the lakers for awhile he doesn’t seem to get better he was honestly Better the first season when he helped against Golden State in playoffs the stats may show slightly different between the 2 regular seasons though. but the playoffs Dlo gets embarrassing. Players like he & Austin Reaves claim they being familiar with each other by staying together as a core is how they could become able to compete for championships. Well the lakers have unfortunately kept them together awhile now in LA & they didn’t seem to get better staying together like they claimed they would. It’s not likely but maybe 1 more year with a total different coach would make a difference who knows? JJ will have a total different offense to implement so it’s not going to be easy. The lakers did win 47 gm’s last season if they can win 50+ but just adding Dalton Knect,Bronny & JJ as a coach is not very promising in that direction.
1. The idea of adding Demar Derozan to LAL isn't a bad fit, but his playstyle would obviously collide with the overall ball dominance and "star power" of Lebron, which in turn would make him switch to a more offball style of play, which he isn't accustomed to doing. For the scoring ability and clutch performing, he sounds like a very smart acquisition, but as I've said before, Lakers don't need to worry about signing star players right now, they need balance and versatility, as well as scoring and wing depth. I love Derozan, I think he's one of the best clutch performers and mid-range scorers in the NBA, but i'm not sure if signing him is smart at the moment.
2. Cameron Johnson doesn't sound like a bad pickup, especially for the PG/SG or SF position. I'd trade D'Lo and Gabe Vincent for him through a sign and trade. Efficient scorer, very efficient perimeter threat, near 40% 3PT percentage, over 44% corner 3PT shooter, 3&D versatility, and a proven spot up shooter. And seeing that BKN had interest in bringing D'Lo back in the past, this sounds like a very clear window of opportunity for both teams to improve their rosters.
3. I think Miles Bridges would be a near-perfect fit for the SF/PF position. Incredibly athletic, 3-level scoring ability, stupendous hops, very efficient interior scorer, and a lethal lob threat, as well as an incredibly impressive fastbreak finisher in the open court, which the Lakers can benefit from immensely.
4. I'd still push for KJ Martin and Robert Covington while Free Agency is still active.
5. Resign Taurean Prince, and dont trade anybody except D'Lo, Hayes, Dinwiddie, Vincent and a couple draft picks.
6. Keep everyone else.
Good video. From what's been communicated, DeRozan may only want a one year deal and then go back out in the market to get more...if he wanted more than 12.8 he kinda would be screwed. Sign and trade deals have to be at least 3 yrs...if he wants less like a year and THEM walks...

I like Cam Johnson. Would prefer to keep Rui out of of that trade however. He came up big in the last 2 years. His shooting and defense kept the Lakers in many games.

JSM, how do you feel about a trade for Grant and Wendell Carter sending Rui and Gabe to Portland and sending Dlo to Orlando. I think it would multiple seconds if not a first to Portland to get done. After that, sign Trent Jr to the NTPML and bring back Prince + Dinwiddie. Starting lineup would be AR, GTJ, JG, Bron and AD with a deep bench . Some salary dump trades would have to be done for sure
DeMar is a terrible fit without DLo.
Lavine is a much better fit, sexton and Kessler would be much better, Miles bridges or Jerami Grant would be better. If we are giving assets for DeRozan then do anything else please

Chicago is hard-capped because they used the MLE on Jalen Smith.
In a two-team trade the Bulls can only receive roughly 16 million in salary for a sign and trade.
In a three-team trade with one team having ample cap space, the Lakers can send the third team players they like with matching salaries for DeRozan's new deal while Chicago receives some second round draft picks and/or players that total under 16 mill in salaries.
If DeRozan wants more than 16m, he is screwed unless a team like San Antonio, Utah, Orlando, or Detroit are enamored by any combination of Vincent, Vanderbilt, or Hachimura.
If San Antonio, for example, really loves Vanderbilt and is willing to take back Vincent as well (with a pick included), they could sign DeRozan to a deal starting at 24m, send CHI a couple of second round picks, and receive Vanderbilt and Vincent for their troubles.
Again, a team (DET, SAN, UTA, or ORL) would have to really, really want Vanderbilt or Hachimura to make this happen which is just not very likely.
All those teams would insist on including Austin Reaves and that's where the deal would die.
Miami wants DeRozan too, but it's the same situation. One of the teams with space would have to really, really like Tyler Herro or Duncan Robinson, and much like the Laker players being made available, no one wants them that badly.
DeRozan will have to take a deal starting at 16m unless he gets very lucky and some team wants the Heat or Lakers "scraps".

You don’t want to give up assets for Demar, but you want to give up assets for Cam Johnson who can’t even play over 60 games per season. Get real. Keep the same energy if Demar comes & he’s a factor. Basketball is more then 3s spacing is more then 3s, he can create his own shot, currently we only have bron that can do that. Demar 36% on catch and shoot 3s that’s average & he can knock down wide open 3s. He’s been top 5 in clutch points in the last 3 seasons. We’ve heard about Lebron “playing off the ball more” for 4 ish years now. Might happen for a couple games here and there, but Lebron is still going to have a 28%+ usage rate at the end of the day. He just doesn’t like playing off the ball that much. They’d still have Reaves and Vincent to alleviate ball handling duties off him.
