This video is for anyone that has burnished (uncoated) tools. Most domestic mixers have a white coated beater and dough hook but the top of the whisk is usually uncoated.
The grey residue is aluminium oxide. A quick google of "is aluminium oxide toxic" should give you a lot of information. Generally it looks unpleasant but in the quantities you have it should do no harm. If you don't get it clean, the first thing you pass through the grinder will usually remove it (and have grey streaks). You should find that after the first few inches, the grey will not colour the food any more.
Oxyclean contains hydrogen peroxide and washing soda amongst other chemicals. Both react with aluminium. Google "oxyclean on aluminium" for more information.
Really disappointed that you make attachments that are aluminum instead of stainless steel and not dishwasher safe. Thought these were supposed to be high quality!
Very helpful, thank you. The best thing would be for KitchenAid to simply make those parts of 100% stainless steel.
For what these machines cost, they wouldn’t lose money by making them stainless steel.
@@donnafrancati13 Exactly. Their machines don't last as long as the older ones did, BTW.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This is exactly the information I’ve been looking for all day! Thank you.
Thanks so much for that video. Extremely helpful.
Thank you Jade, this video was very helpful.
Thank you for this information! Put my attachment in the dishwasher and it looks horrible!
Is this for older Kitchenaid mixers? Because the newer ones have a white coating on the attachments.

I put the meat grinder's parts in the dish washer. Came out black. Even if I clean them as you advise, is safe to use them again? Looks awful.

The grey is aluminium oxide. Although not considered harmful it doesn't look good and if it were me, I'd clean the hook and make another batch.
Why not use oxy clean?
