He sold over 280 million records and is one of the most succsessful artists on this planet. He won 17 Grammy-Awards and is the only musician who has three memberships in the Rock and Roll o Fame. He started his carrier back in 1963 and is still playing.

Layla was released as the second single from Derek And The Dominos' 1970 album: Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs. Eric Clapton was the founding member of the band. It was written by Eric Clapton and Jim Gordon. It was produced by Tom Dowd and Derek And The Dominos. The song reached #10 on the Hot 100. The single was certified Gold by the RIAA. This live performance is from a concert in held in New York City's Madison Square Garden in 1999. The song's title was inspired by the story of Layla and Majnun, which Eric Clapton had been told by his friend Ian Dallas. Nizami's Tale, about a moon princess who was married off by her father to a man she did not love, resulting in Majnun's madness, struck a deep chord with Eric Clapton. The source of the song: "Layla", was rooted in Eric Clapton's infatuation with Pattie Boyd, the wife of his friend and Beatles' lead guitarist George Harrison, who had joined Eric Clapton as a guitarist on Delaney & Bonnie's European tour in December 1969. During the late 1960s, Eric Clapton and George Harrison became close friends. His guitar technician for over thirty years was Lee Dickson. Derek And The Dominos Group Members Who Passed Away 🙏: 1. Duane Allman (November 20, 1946 - October 29, 1971) Duane Allman, at 24 years of age, was killed in a motorcycle crash on October 29, 1971, while the Allman Brothers' band was on a break from touring and recording. Duane Allman was riding his Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle at high speed on Hillcrest Avenue, in the western part of Macon, Georgia. As he approached Bartlett Street, a flatbed boom truck stopped suddenly in the intersection, forcing him to swerve sharply. He struck either the back of the truck or the ball on the crane and was thrown from the motorcycle, which landed on top of him and skidded another 90 feet with him pinned underneath it, crushing his internal organs. He was alive when he arrived at a hospital, but despite immediate medical treatment, he was pronounced deceased several hours later from massive internal injuries. His funeral service was held on Monday, November 1, 1971, at Snow's Memorial Chapel in Macon, Georgia. In the chapel, packed with family and friends, many of the musicians who had been part of Allman's life were in attendance to mourn his passing. He was laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Georgia. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 as part of the Allman Brothers. Carl Radle (June 18, 1942 - May 30, 1980) Carl Radle passed away at his home in Claremore, Oklahoma in May 1980, from the effects of alcohol and narcotics; he was 37. He was laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was posthumously inducted to the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2006. 3. Jim Gordon (July 14, 1945 - March 13, 2023) On June 3, 1983, Jim Gordon attacked his 71-year-old widowed mother, Osa Marie Gordon, with a hammer, then fatally stabbed her with a butcher knife, claiming that a voice in his head told him to kill her. Only after his arrest for murder was he properly diagnosed with schizophrenia. Layla was released as the second single from Derek And The Dominos' 1970 album: Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs. Eric Clapton was the founding member of the band. It was written by Eric Clapton and Jim Gordon. It was produced by Tom Dowd and Derek And The Dominos. The song reached #10 on the Hot 100. The single was certified Gold by the RIAA. This live performance is from a concert in held in New York City's Madison Square Garden in 1999.
The song's title was inspired by the story of Layla and Majnun, which Eric Clapton had been told by his friend Ian Dallas. Nizami's Tale, about a moon princess who was married off by her father to a man she did not love, resulting in Majnun's madness, struck a deep chord with Eric Clapton. The source of the song: "Layla", was rooted in Eric Clapton's infatuation with Pattie Boyd, the wife of his friend and Beatles' lead guitarist George Harrison, who had joined Eric Clapton as a guitarist on Delaney & Bonnie's European tour in December 1969. Dave Marsh, in The Rolling Stone Illustrated History of Rock and Roll, wrote that: "there are few moments in the repertoire of recorded rock where a singer or writer has reached so deeply into himself that the effect of hearing them is akin to witnessing a murder, or a suicide … to me, 'Layla' is the greatest of them".
In 1966, Beatles guitarist George Harrison married Pattie Boyd, a model he met two years before during the filming of the movie: A Hard Day's Night. During the late 1960s, Eric Clapton and George Harrison became close friends. Eric Clapton contributed uncredited (although openly acknowledged) guitar work on George Harrison's song: "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", on The Beatles' self-titled 1968 double album, also known as the White Album, and George Harrison co-wrote and played guitar on Eric Clapton's band: Cream's 1969 song: "Badge", from their album: Goodbye. However, between his tenures in the bands Cream and Blind Faith, Eric Clapton fell in love with Pattie Boyd.
During the recording of the album: Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs, Duane Allman joined Eric Clapton's fledgling band: Derek And The Dominos, as a guest musician. Eric Clapton and Duane Allman, already mutual fans, were introduced by Tom Dowd at an Allman Brothers concert on August 26, 1970. The two hit it off well and soon became good friends. Tom Dowd said of their guitar-playing chemistry: "There had to be some sort of telepathy going on because I've never seen spontaneous inspiration happen at that rate and level. One of them would play something, and the other reacted instantaneously. Never once did either of them have to say, 'Could you play that again, please?' It was like two hands in a glove. And they got tremendously off on playing with each other".
Eric Clapton originally wrote "Layla" as a ballad, with lyrics describing his unrequited love for Pattie Boyd, but the song became a "Rocker" when, according to Eric Clapton, Duane Allman composed the song's signature guitar riff. Shortly afterwards, Eric Clapton returned to the studio, where he heard Jim Gordon playing a piano piece he had composed separately. Impressed by the piece, Eric Clapton convinced Jim Gordon to allow it to be used as part of the song.
Though only Jim Gordon has been credited with this part, according to Bobby Whitlock: "Jim took that piano melody from his ex-girlfriend Rita Coolidge. I know because in the D&B days I lived in John Garfield's old house in the Hollywood Hills and there was a guest house with an upright piano in it. Rita and Jim were up there in the guest house and invited me to join in on writing this song with them called: 'Time' ... Her sister Priscilla wound up recording it with Booker T Jones ... Jim took the melody from Rita's song and didn't give her credit for writing it. Her boyfriend ripped her off". The song: 'Time', ended up on the 1973 album: Chronicles, by Booker T and Priscilla Jones. Bobby Whitlock's story was echoed by Rita Coolidge herself in her 2016 autobiography. The claim is also repeated in Graham Nash's 2014 autobiography: Wild Tales.
Pattie Boyd divorced George Harrison in 1977 and married Eric Clapton in 1979 during a concert stop in Tucson, Arizona. George Harrison was not bitter about the divorce and attended Eric Clapton's wedding party with his former Beatles' bandmates Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney. During their relationship, Eric Clapton wrote another love ballad for Pattie Boyd titled: "Wonderful Tonight" (1977). Eric Clapton and Pattie Boyd divorced in 1989.

After playing in a number of different local bands, Eric Clapton joined The Yardbirds from 1963 to 1965, and John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers from 1965 to 1966. After leaving John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, he formed the power trio band called: Cream, with drummer Ginger Baker and bassist/vocalist Jack Bruce, in which Eric Clapton played sustained Blues music improvisations and "arty, Blues-based Psychedelic Pop". After four successful albums, Cream broke up in November 1968.
Eric Clapton then formed the Blues Rock band Blind Faith with Baker, Steve Winwood, and Ric Grech, recording one album and performing on one tour before they broke up.
Eric Clapton then toured with Delaney & Bonnie and recorded his first solo album in 1970, before forming Derek And The Dominos with Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle and Jim Gordon. With The Yardbirds, Eric Clapton played a Fender Telecaster, a Fender Jazzmaster, a double-cutaway Gretsch 6120, and a 1964 Cherry-Red Gibson ES-335. He became exclusively a Gibson player for a period beginning in mid-1965, when he purchased a used sunburst Gibson Les Paul guitar from a guitar store in London.
Early during his stint in Cream, Eric Clapton's first Les Paul Standard was stolen. He continued to play Les Pauls exclusively with Cream, one bought from Andy Summers was almost identical to the stolen guitar, until 1967, when he acquired his most famous guitar in this period, a 1964 Gibson SG, dubbed: "The Fool". Eric Clapton used both the Les Paul and the SG to create his self-described "woman tone".
In 1968, Eric Clapton bought a Gibson Firebird and started using the 1964 Cherry-Red Gibson ES-335 again.
In late 1969 Eric Clapton made the switch to the Fender Stratocaster. "I had a lot of influences when I took up the Strat. First there was Buddy Holly, and Buddy Guy. Hank Marvin was the first well known person over here in England who was using one, but that wasn't really my kind of music. Steve Winwood had so much credibility, and when he started playing one, I thought, oh, if he can do it, I can do it".
The first was used during the recording of his 1970 album: Eric Clapton, was called: "Brownie", which in 1973 became the backup to the most famous of all Eric Clapton's guitars: "Blackie". Eric Clapton assembled the best components of the remaining three to create: "Blackie", which was his favorite stage guitar until its retirement in 1985. In November 1970 he bought six Fender Stratocasters from the Sho-bud guitar shop in Nashville, Tennessee while on tour with Derek And The Dominos. He gave one each to George Harrison, Steve Winwood, and Pete Townshend.
On June 24, 2004, Eric Clapton sold "Blackie" at Christie's Auction House, New York, for $959,500 to raise funds for his Crossroads Centre for drug and alcohol addictions. "Brownie" is now on display at The Experience Music Project in Seattle, Washington. The Fender Custom Shop has since produced a limited run of 275 'Blackie' replicas, correct in every detail right down to the 'Duck Brothers' flight case, and artificially aged using Fender's 'Relic' process to simulate years of hard wear.
Signature guitars in Eric Clapton's honor are made by Fender and C.F. Martin & Company. In 1988, Fender introduced his signature Eric Clapton Stratocaster. Several signature-model 000-sized acoustic guitars made by C.F. Martin & Company. The first, of these, introduced in 1995, was a limited edition 000-42EC Eric Clapton signature model with a production run of 461.
His 1939 000-42 C.F. Martin & Company that he played on the 1992 MTV album: Unplugged, sold for $791,500 at auction. Eric Clapton uses Ernie Ball Slinky and Super Slinky strings, gauge .10 to.46. His guitar technician for over thirty years was Lee Dickson.
Derek And The Dominos Group Members Who Passed Away 🙏:
1. Duane Allman (November 20, 1946 - October 29, 1971)
Duane Allman, at 24 years of age, was killed in a motorcycle crash on October 29, 1971, while the Allman Brothers' band was on a break from touring and recording. Duane Allman was riding his Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle at high speed on Hillcrest Avenue, in the western part of Macon, Georgia. As he approached Bartlett Street, a flatbed boom truck stopped suddenly in the intersection, forcing him to swerve sharply. He struck either the back of the truck or the ball on the crane and was thrown from the motorcycle, which landed on top of him and skidded another 90 feet with him pinned underneath it, crushing his internal organs. He was alive when he arrived at a hospital, but despite immediate medical treatment, he was pronounced deceased several hours later from massive internal injuries.
His funeral service was held on Monday, November 1, 1971, at Snow's Memorial Chapel in Macon, Georgia. In the chapel, packed with family and friends, many of the musicians who had been part of Allman's life were in attendance to mourn his passing. He was laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Georgia.
He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 as part of the Allman Brothers. In 2003, he was ranked number 2 in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time, second only to Jimi Hendrix. In 2011, he was ranked number 9 and in 2023 he was ranked 10th. His guitar tone (achieved with a Gibson Les Paul and two 50-watt bass Marshall amplifiers) was named one of the greatest of all time by Guitar Player.
2. Carl Radle (June 18, 1942 - May 30, 1980)
Carl Radle passed away at his home in Claremore, Oklahoma in May 1980, from the effects of alcohol and narcotics; he was 37. He was laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was posthumously inducted to the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2006.
3. Jim Gordon (July 14, 1945 - March 13, 2023)
On June 3, 1983, Jim Gordon attacked his 71-year-old widowed mother, Osa Marie Gordon, with a hammer, then fatally stabbed her with a butcher knife, claiming that a voice in his head told him to kill her. Only after his arrest for murder was he properly diagnosed with schizophrenia. At his trial, the court accepted that he had acute schizophrenia, but he was not allowed to use an insanity defense because of changes to California law arising from the Federal Insanity Defense Reform Act.
Jim Gordon passed away on March 13, 2023, at the California Medical Facility, a medical and psychiatric prison in Vacaville, California. His body was cremated and the ashes were given to his family.

Fun Fact 🕵♂: Eric Clapton's nickname is: "Slowhand", although he plays very fast. His manager started calling him that while he was touring with The Yardbirds in 1964. Eric Clapton was famous for breaking strings because of his ridiculous bends. When he would go backstage to change strings the audience would start a slow hand clap until he returned.
