being a percussionist is the best thing ever, you can hit whatever you want and use it as an instrument, you can literally get a bald guy, mic his head and add it to your set and somehow you’d make it work
Haha, same here, I don't wanna play a wooden box so for me it's good to play a Darbuka as you can see and hear in the linked vid..!! m.ua-cam.com/video/kYJLtfoJ3hw/v-deo.html
I could play that set up for hours. I really like the engineering and creativity that goes into building this kit. I'm definitely going to start building one, let's challenge ourselves to make the most elaborate construction of sounds possible.
This is wonderful. Creative percussion for every situation is a must for drummers. If you have to play a quiet gig, don’t sound like a worse version of you because you can’t play soft.
Every percussion kit video talks about live applications and then mics it like a studio. But I do appreciate that no processing seems to be being done here to deepen the tone of the snare or Lenten the transients.
I love my SABIAN 11" AAX X-Plosion Splash cymbal for my cajon hybrid set up. With hands or nylon rods/brushes, as the name states, it EXPLODES and is perfect for Cajon hybrid setups. If you wanted to have a minimalist hybrid cajon set up, use this ONE cymbal!
always get a cahon pedal that has a solid linkage, the cable ones break within a couple months of use and they're very squishy and unresponsive feeling.
Hello Art Of Drumming! I know they’re not nearly as mainstream or popular as the bands featured on this channel, but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see a video on the drum sound of Matt Mingus of Dance Gavin Dance, and in particular I’ve been stumped on the sound of their album Dance Gavin Dance. I love the detailed and fast paced drumming on that album and the punchy, high sound on it. I’d highly recommend it. I’d love to see a video on his sound and what he uses. Thanks! Keep up the awesome content!!
in one of my bands we have ethnic flutes, hungarian folk cithers and bass. i use cajon. and i love it. one boundary mic inside, and don't need any mic stand. when i play the cajon its fine. but in the case of perc set with pedals i feel the cajon uncomfortable as "drum throne".
This is just my own personal preference, but I despise playing Cajon. There is no worse of an uncomfortable instrument ever made, hurts your hands, hurts your back, hurts your butt, basically hurts everything. F*** the Cajon, haha.
At the moment I am "building" a pocket drumkit with a 10 inches snare, a 16 floor tom used as kick, 8 and !0" rototoms, bongos, and I still have to find what I would use as floor toms for that.
Might be tuned kinda high for it but I was thinking of doing the same thing and using a djembe as a floor tom. Might look better than it sounds though.
@@benjamingaray5660 just be careful with that djembe if it has goat skin, drumsticks would definitely damage it, and rods won't be nice to it either. If it's plastic skin, I'll be fine.
From time to time we go through our older videos and simply clean up this channel. The production standard we had back then simply isn't what we do today and we try to create a different image now then we did back then. Those videos are still available on our platform. The bongo video for example is part of an in depth percussion course you can find here: artofdrumming.com/courses/latin-percussion.
My question is: Using just a cajon, how can you play it without sitting on it, as my back condition will not allow me to sit on it for more than about 2 minutes max?
Meinl and pearl make a cajon stand that clamps down on the top and bottom of the cajon. You could also use the flat top cajon that he used as a snare. But it think it might be quieter than a full-size one.
Don't know why you would add a splash cymbal over mounting a cowbell!!! Especially for percussion setup!!! I love the video tho, Breaking it down from most simple percussion options to a very colorful, yet still simple and mobile setup!! Also stop saying small percussion and just say shaker!!!!!😂 I get sooo0000 jealous of percussion setups, Cuz all in all a traditional kit wins out imo, you can cover more genres that way, But who has the space for a decked out percussion setup as well??? I know you can have a hybrid setup, but it gets too big and cramped for my tastes, Having a separate setup with hats, bongos congas, timbales, various shakers and cowbells, cymbals, I druil over the possibilities, But for a home studio I can't justify the floor space and additional gear 😢
this is not how it sounds.. is very misleading ... this is how it sounds in the recording after mics that cost two times the set-up and professional editing of the sound that cost four times the set up in a studio that costs eight times most people home environment that got no acoustic modifications to record such drums at all.. in a normal living room where most people will use a small drum set up this will NOT sound like this at all!
when you're bringing so much, it kind of defeats the purpose of too big. might as wel bring an actual drumkit with towels or a suitcase with a bunch of roto toms

Underrated comment 😂
Dude! What if I don't wanna play the cajón?

Possible one of the most underrated video on here rn. So much good info 🤘🏼🤘🏼
This is such a cool video. My HPK consists of 2 bongos, 2 cowbells, hanging bells, a block, 8 inch splash, and foot tambourine.
what instruments would I add?
cowbells and only cowbells

Love this idea
A video on steel snare tuning would be Great! I’m struggling at the moment;(
Would be good to see something similar for practice pads and kits.

Great idea and video.
thanks Cameron!
Terrific information!
It's cool, but what about barchaims, cowbells and blocks?)

Yeah ! Thanks dude
Spoons!!!! The spoons will get you thru a jam session.
Very nice I love the cymbals cool set up 🤘🏾
This works for others, but not me. Not into playing kitchen cutting boards bare-handed 😅 I'll pass on the coffee shop gigs and just play bigger venues
Wooow man! Fantastic drum set, i love it! Greetings from Mattia 13 years old italian drummer! 🥁🥁🥁😎 New SUB❤
Awesome🙏👍👏👏👏🙌

😂😂😂
Was looking for this comment 😅 cajons also sound weak and terrible
Thanks for info ...how did you attach this snare to a cymbal stand ?
Where do I buy these items in North America?

A 14" Roto would fit perfectly.
hi interesting video! could you please tell me the model of the cymbals you're playing? thx
Hi, check the description
Guys, why did you private your bongo video?

If you're in a situation where a drum kit is "too loud" you don't need new gear, you need to work on your dynamics
when you're bringing so much, it kind of defeats the purpose of too big. might as wel bring an actual drumkit with towels or a suitcase with a bunch of roto toms
Reminds me of this video: ua-cam.com/video/Y_H9pAXuz6M/v-deo.html
I can feel my brain asking me to buy this things oh no...
Check out the kit I used in an acoustic stream some months ago: ua-cam.com/video/zAkxRMV8Q3A/v-deo.html
Verry nice sound and cool the unplugged music.
Is it also possible with a tom an some cymbals? You just had the Cajon, cajon snare and cymbals now'
Hello !
Thanks very much for this link 👍👍
Could you please tell me the material you used in this kit ?
Cajon sounds BAD
Cajon.....no dude ....no. I'd rather play a triangle...
