This is indeed an awesome film, but I would name a lot of other non-Disney animated films which could qualify: WATERSHIP DOWN, THE IRON GIANT, and even many Japanese animated movies like anything Studio Ghibli.
This movie transformed me without me realizing it till I got married. I saw this when I was 5 with my family in a movie theater. One of the greatest experiences of my life. This went deep deep deep into my unconscious, creative heart and mind. Love how science, and mysticism or reason and spirituality touch. Love is the key! Love is sacrifice. So much grace in this story.
I love this! This film inspired me to become an animator and work for Don, which I did in the early 80's. In fact, Don gave me my first chance to work as an animator in full length feature animation. Thanks for posting this gem!
The secret of nimh it's so beautiful and heartwarming and I love the animation and storyline and of course Mrs brisby cause of her perspective and with Mrs brisby so humble and sweet she's definitely the 🐁 of the movie.
Tomorrow is my first day in Don Bluth's online classes, needless to say I'm incredibly excited. What he said about animation changing lives, I felt that so much
"What I'm hoping is that the films we make here will help some other people, too." You did, Don. You helped save my life. For that I will forever be grateful. Thank you for sharing this video.
This is one of those movies I really missed out on as a kid, and it would have been right up my alley at 8 and 9 years old when I was absolutely obsessed with animated rodents.
Same. Almost all my favorites as a kid had rats/mice- this, An American Tail, The Great Mouse Detective, Pinky and the Brain, Ratatouille, Geronimo Stilton, Tom and Jerry, The Tale of Despereaux, and of course Mickey and Minnie.
Christopher Jordan Not to worry, o’ worried one. Dom DeLuise (the voice of Jeremy) has been in heaven with Elizabeth Hartman, Hermione Baddeley, Arthur Malet, John Carradine, Aldo Ray and Paul Shenar (the voices of Mrs. Brisby, Auntie Shrew, Mr. Ages, The Great Owl, Sullivan and Jenner).
Thank you so much don you truly made a big impact on the lives of others and myself, I wish to meet you someday soon, because I also want to become a great animator and keep this tradition just as you said yes, I agree with you, it is a huge privilege to the world that we have animation like this
5:38 That's what I look for in movies like this. Voices that suit the characters looks. I feel that's not the case with today's movies and they just do acting like it's a routine job and don't put enough passion & soul into the characters.
While they are some good voice acting in modern animated films like Into the Spider-Verse, Mitchells, Soul, etc. I do agree that there isn’t enough passion with voice acting to the point where mostly A-listers would be casted to gain more attention. Heck, I would also point out that Martin Short’s role as BEN from ‘Treasure Planet’ felt out of place.
IMHO, "The Secret of NIMH", despite the fact that the amazing, humble little heroine-mouse has no first name, (How about Elizabeth , like the voice actress, Elizabeth Hartman?! Elizabeth Brisby has a nice ring to it!) is Don Bluth's first full animated film and his greatest masterpiece!
I was five when I saw this, and it was the first time I learned of this film! It shows what impact it left in my head and how 'different' this film was!
There's something strange. In the picture of Dom DeLuise with his character Jeremy, he has a beard, but behind the scenes here, he has no beard, much like in The Muppet Movie, was his picture with Jeremy taken later?
R.I.P. Elizabeth Hartman, Dom DeLuise, Arthur Malet, Herione Baddeley, Shannen Doherty, John Carradine, Paul Shenar, and Aldo Ray
This is definitely the greatest non disney animated film ever made.
This is indeed an awesome film, but I would name a lot of other non-Disney animated films which could qualify: WATERSHIP DOWN, THE IRON GIANT, and even many Japanese animated movies like anything Studio Ghibli.
here here
And to think it was made on a tight budget and yet it still manages to be a cinematic non-Disney cartoon masterpiece

Indeed I totally agree

Thank you for all your wonderful work! ^_^
RIP Dom Deluise and Leonard Nimoy.
The secret of nimh it's so beautiful and heartwarming and I love the animation and storyline and of course Mrs brisby cause of her perspective and with Mrs brisby so humble and sweet she's definitely the 🐁 of the movie.

Awesome! How are your classes going, 5 months in?!
Just watching Don Bluth and the actor work together like that is incredible. Don Bluth is a gift to the world.
One of the absolute greatest animated films ever made. So freaking good.
The late Dom Deluise in action.
Emily Greene Yep. Dom DeLuise was a famous American actor, chef and comedian.
"What I'm hoping is that the films we make here will help some other people, too." You did, Don. You helped save my life. For that I will forever be grateful. Thank you for sharing this video.
So Beautiful :) I wish there were more making of like this wonderful behind the scenes animation and more like this 2d animation feature film :)
This is one of those movies I really missed out on as a kid, and it would have been right up my alley at 8 and 9 years old when I was absolutely obsessed with animated rodents.
Same
Igual me está pasando con Samurái Jack.

Don Bluth is so underrated. I wish his work had more support over the years.
R.I.P. Dom Deluise and Elizabeth Hartman
No mention of Elizabeth Hartman, who does the voice of Mrs.Brisby.
Rich Allen because of death? No, that'll be ridiculous.
😢
'Patch of Blue" Ms. Hartman WAS key! RIP
Words of wisdom at the end. What so many of us including myself, strive for.
Poor Dom DeLuise he may be gone but his story lives on

@@willrobinson3662 Paul Shenar died sooner than DeLuise. He was also in Scarface.
Leonard Nimoy and Dom DeLuise were legends.
Jeremy was easily the best character I miss old school comedy 😢

The bravery and "secrets" of our talented cast and crew are definitely awesome to dive into and find out more about. Stay safe everyone!
diggin the sincerity
It's cool that Nickelodeon showed this back in the 80s.
The kind of movie that Disney SHOULD be making today as opposed to the effluent they churn out.
Thank you for sharing this!!! I remember this episode!!!!
I had no idea this even existed! Isn’t there more like this?
Rena Nel this was an entire series.

Cool to see it again. I bet you'll get a lot more views as soon as I post this on Facebook and The Secret of NIMH fans page.
Thank you! So glad I still had it and could share!
I'm just glad to see this again!
Me too. I'm glad people save stuff like this.
I was five when I saw this, and it was the first time I learned of this film! It shows what impact it left in my head and how 'different' this film was!
I remember Don Deluise's section pretty vividly.
Incredible!! Thank you!!!
Is this really the highest quality copy left?
Such a Beautiful movie
Thanks for sharing!!!... is there more of these `Makaing of` videos of Secret of NIHM?
Take my breath away Justin
1:21 😂😂

it baffles me that Dom was clean shaven
