I never understood the people saying this zone was hard and frustrating. I always found it super easy and it's actually my favorite zone. There are zones a lot more harder than this like Metropolis. But who knows it's just my opinion
I think it's because the boss can seem daunting if you don't know the tricks around it. It's one of my favorites from having the best soundtrack alone, and I agree. Metropolis and Wing Fortress gave me issues more than any other zone. Oil Ocean wasn't that bad, I even found Chemical Plant worse than Oil Ocean because of act 2.
i love how eggman needs money for all his creations and badniks but he is completely fine with throwing away tons of oil into the ocean for literally no reason instead of selling it
I'm actually rather sure that this is an oil Rig and the Oil Ocean is just a natural giant oil field that Eggman is harvesting to build more machines (I believe even the manual says as much)

Well, oil is generally found in deserts; look at real-life Middle Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia. Also, the background has a very distinct orange hue that seems evocative of the desert theme found in some other levels. My guess would be that Oil Ocean is just a district of another desert zone, kind of like my theory that Dynamite Plant from Sonic the Fighters is actually set in the Metropolis Zone.

So we paused the game at the start of the Mystic Cave Zone to eat the cake, and continued playing. Well, halfway through we started feeling a bit nauseous. XenoversePro Yea, I played the game, the first one is a liitle confusing, because I had to find a lot of items and the animal upgrades I think that what they are called, but it was okay, the second Shantae is fun
I'm sure I'm late to the punch, but this song has quite an Arabic, sand dance/snake-charmer vibe to it. Funnily enough, most of the world's oil comes from Arabic countries in the Middle East. Someone at Sega obviously thought that, geographically speaking, this is what an oil refinery would sound like. It's a nice touch.
Islam is allowed in Japan. Pew Research Center estimates around 185,000 Muslims in Japan. According to published data, 49,982 Indonesians (in 2017), 12,374 Bangladeshis (in 2016), 10,849 Pakistanis (in 2011), and 5,167 Turks (in 2017), most of whom are Muslim, and there are native Japanese adherents too, and there are active mosques in the country, the first of which was founded in Kobe in 1935 (AH 1354).
This idea has been circulated in viral graphics and chain emails, but it is untrue. Islam is practised openly in Japan. There are mosques in the country which couldn't get building permits if it was illegal. Likewise the the Qu'ran an Islamic texts can be imported without trouble. Some unofficial discrimination exists, but that is often the case against immigrants and foreigners in general, which most Muslims in Japan are. One can look this up on Politifact if people don't believe me.

Seahorses and the laser worm in the boss...daamn
Mai here's a pro tip for the boss. When you get to the boss area, jump in the oil. Keep spamming the jump button to stay afloat. If your not on the platform he can't hit you. Hide under the platform until he get out of the oil, then hit him. Head back under the platform and repeat. Huge exploit sega overlooked
Lmao love your user name haha

I hate this zone, but I learned the Harmonic Minor Scale with this. xD
OH SNAP. you nailed it with your final words in that comment.
Notice how the tune is Middle Eastern themed to a stage that's named "Oil Ocean"? Anyone else notice this?
I didn't notice that until I saw comments pointing it out today.
These songs trip me out hardcore......take me right back to the mid 90's
