And that's how I do it too. Easy peasy.
So I'm 4' 10" can I use this can I use these techniques on a 10' ceiling 😁👍💯
Thanks for sharing this
Yes It will work if you are 4'10"
Best $200 you can spend with drywall jobs.We bought one for one big job and have used it twice on smaller jobs.Paid for itself on the first job
That's that ol Harbor Frought lift there. Been using that one professionally for 10 years. She's a bit wobbly but she does the trick.
Had to do a ceiling repair by myself, lift like that came in real handy
Wobbly is a feature, not a flaw! Lol. I prefer “easily adjustable”
Same here. Works great
@@Thumbsdwn exactly!!!
I learned how to hang drywall out of necessity a couple years ago. (On UA-cam watching Vancouver Carpenter’s channel.) Found out that I actually like doing it and enjoy showing off the finished product. (Not that my work holds a candle to these guys.) I couldn’t do it for a living because I’m too much of a perfectionist and take way too long to get it done. I appreciate the skills that Handyman showcased in this video and that he is willing to share his craft and art for the world to see in action. Thanks @The Handyman , I’m learning a lot from your videos, keep up the great work!
Same. I'm renovating my entire house by myself and I couldn't do this professionally because I want it to look perfect. You couldn't pay people to do the work with such attention to detail.
Don’t lie, that phone call was pertaining to your trucks extended warranty. Lol
LOL.
Too funny!
I'm a handyman that works alone. I enjoy it. You don't always need a crew or fancy tools. Keep doing what you're doing! Love your videos!
You do need a beard though
@@handymansbeard3789 Everyone should have a beard. It's no shave November....
@@nolehopkins1077 many will try, but only a few will succeed
@@handymansbeard3789 this Handyman will succeed.... I'm in the Springs
@@handymansbeard3789 if they don’t find you handy, they should at least find you handsome. 😉
Just rented one last week. Have a newborn, and not much free time. Was able to do six full 4x12 5/8” fire rated sheets on the garage lid, one a night after work. Total cost was $80 for the week. For the pain and hassle it saved they could have charged me 3x. I would have just bought one- but I seriously don’t need that shit sitting around for an eternity. I’d rather help keep a local company that I use frequently in business.
I couldn't find a drywall hanger to save my life. It didn't help that their hasn't been any drywall on island for a bit. I settled for some 1/4 inch plywood to get a cover and smooth things out. I figured I can always drywall over a good smooth surface later. I started using a couple blocks nailed to the walls to hold the opposite edge enough for me to tack things up.
As always, thanks for the tips and advice. You rock, handyman. Instead of just a couple beers I have a nice spot for you and yours to stay in the next time you come to Hawaii. 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
That’s the best kind of helper. No yacking and you don’t have to buy them lunch.
Don't feel bad. I today measured..carefully, then cut out the toilet waste pipe opening in a piece of OSB. Nope, not even close. Typical day.
I’m 22 years old and my Goal is to become a great handyman like you sir 💪🏽
For this job the drywall lift is the cat's ass. I didn't know about them 30 years ago when I did my own home so I improvised a system where I put a 2x4 on the side wall about 3/4" down and made a T-brace for the correct height of the ceiling. Put the end of the drywall on the 2x4 and walk the other end up, supported it almost home via a step ladder, then used the T-brace to finish pushing it up. That system doesn't work so well with 12 ft sheets. 8 Ft sheets was no problem and no rental fees or rushing to make a return on Monday morning. BTW, they were only 8 ft ceilings. Did all my tape work with planks on top of milk crates... perfect height!
Something must be wrong with me. I come home drink beer and watch the worlds best handyman do the same shit i did all day? WTF. Much love ❤ Richard's Painting Service Inc.
Scarsdale NY baby!
I just cracked a cold one and headed out to the workshop to do a business video.
Why? Handyman.... Why? TF
Just supporting my man
I watch bus. Chan. as well.
Two beers in and im ready to commit tax fraud 😆 🤣 😂
HA! I just used my Harbor Freight drywall lift for the second time since buying it a few months ago. Love it! Makes the job so much easier…. I have a cordless Milwaukee screw gun too! I have found that it also works great for hanging Fence Pickets!👍
That tool is worth its weight in gold. No smoke or breaks for lunch, shows up on time, doesn't complain about OT. Nice work.
The Man.The Myth.The Legend...The Handyman...keep up the good work
I bought my drywall lift at Harbor Freight last year under $250. I don’t use it a lot but it’s paid for it self already
4:00 too funny. Always aiming to please.
I have drywall lift that is similar, think the brand is Carlos and Jose. Got it off Craigslist a while back.
That is hilarious.
I spent many years on site on my own with to tee bars made of batten and back then it was called tacking with galvanised nails. Now iam 55 and shoulders are knackered I got a lifter 6 years ago and it's meant I can keep going and at a fast pace best money spent payed for itself in the first week they are brilliant on walls with high ceilings old buildings I mean. Keep it up m8.
On our first house we did a 16x24 2 story addition. We used the lift to hang 5/8 drywall on the garage ceiling. Couldn't have done it any other way.
Ha! I have done tons of 5/8 type x drywall on ceilings and walls by myself. Especially in my early 20’s. It will definitely make you strong. Now I just get kids from the skatepark to help me on drywall days. I do like 7 layers of heavy materials on my walls for soundproofing so it would take an eternity by myself
I prefer using a screwgun with collated screws so that I can just pump a bunch in quickly and then afterwards I just make sure they are all in the correct depth. Saves damn near hours on a job like this.
I would sub out drywall. It’s cheaper & easier, but you do you. 💡Thanks for doing the hard work & showing us how. 👍👍
Thanks 👍
Why didn't you glue the drywall? I was always taught to glue the ceiling drywall. I'm just wondering if there is a specific reason for not gluing it?
I have never in my life heard of drywall being glued to the ceiling. I'm guessing you are joking. 😂🤣 good one.
@@TheHandyman1 no, I'm really not. I guess its a Midwest thing. It stops drywall from sagging. I always glue my ceiling drywall. When remodeling a H.U.D. home, they used a type of great stuff foam to glue it on. We had to cut between each ceiling joist. But, I live in Vegas as a handyman and they aren't glued at all out here! Love your videos pal! I have learned quite a bit! Ty!
Maybe it has to do with humidity? I have worked all over but the midwest.
@@TheHandyman1 that could be.
I was wondering the same thing. Im in kansas and I can always tell if they didnt use any after about 20-30 years. I have even seen it sag on the walls causing issues. Maybe its also caused by not enough screws. Reguardless I always use a little liquid nails. And Handyman im sure he means both glued and screwed.
Love hearing whistling!
Handyman I just came across your channels you’re a wealth of knowledge..I love your videos..you inspired me to give this a go..worked in the trades and went to school for electrical just didn’t get a license..you’re very inspiring..keep up the great work..I can’t watch enough of your videos.

Will do thank you
Los Angeles needs a couple thousand of you............
That’s cool my in-law just got me a lift for "Christmas". You just inspired me to use it to lift a set of French doors on to a balcony
Nice tool, Unfortunately I switched trades, I do HVAC now, but when I did Drywall I used a Drywall Dimpler for small Jobs and a Dewalt Drywall drill for larger jobs.
Maybe I missed it, but how long did it take to hang that drywall?
Took me about 4 hours to do the ceiling.
I use a little drywall bit driver in the impact drill they work pretty well. Have a great day!
I used a lift to hang 12 ft rock in the vaulted ceiling in my old house. I think it was 14 ft at the highest point. If having help isn't an option you will figure it out. Had to move a giant cabinet today myself, just had to use my noggin to make it happen.
0:40 “I’ll probably get one full sheet on the ceiling”
12 mins later: most of the ceiling is covered in drywall.
Nice work, Handyman!
Need a lift with a remote control so you can adjust height while up the ladder. Up and down many times per sheet looks like a PITA.
One man ceiling job and great camera work. Excellent entertainment!
Much appreciated!
That lift was worth $44 that's for sure.
Agree! Very surprised how affordable this one is. Then again, it's from Harbor Freight... 🤗💕
Do you show a video on how to prepare the ceiling before installing drywall? In order to contain the insulation from above ? I’m looking for that info. Thank you!

@@TheHandyman1 awesome ! Thank you!
What blade do you use on the oscillating tool to keep the dust down?
Its just a 99 cent wood blade off amazon. I buy them in boxes of 50
Looks good so far Mr. Handy.
Been there, done that. First would put up sheetrock in place with 2x4s tee-brackets - then rented a sheetrock jack like you did and it was like an epiphany.
A lot of work one guy. Nice job
The last time I did a big gig by my self huge shop and office my arm was toast never again .hung taped and textured paint .
I had that dewalt gun years ago. Hated it because the magnetic would let go of the bit. It went to the Goodwill.
I have been told things like "we understand if you need 2-3 days to get this job done, just work safely. I was outta there in 2-3 hours, got paid well.
Thanks for having us along handy-bro
During current times a quality helper would prob want 45 bucks an hour.
But they cant work more than 20 hours so they can receive unemployment. 80k a year and work 20 hrs. Weekly. People are doing this and is ok? Come on People
By quality helper you mean some guy who every time you turned around would be on Instagram, then he takes you to the Labor Board for the stressful working enviroment of you constantly telling him to get back to work.
Picked up a pack of drywall phillips bits, they have been a life saver vs trying to gage depth just driving a drywall screw. Think they might be called a screw setter. Biggest technique tip with them, drive the screw straight to create a nice dimple around the screw... that's someone easier to say than do
I bought a lift for doing my basement from Craigslist. It was only used one time from the guy who sold it, and it was the best investment. I can completely get behind your recommending it. 👌
You bought your basement from Craigslist? 😁. Yes, I know what you meant, but I also know how I read it, I know, I'm a smart ass.
You are crazy all the wear and tear will hit you one day. Get a helper man your body needs it!
Hay Handyman! How many screws does it take to hold up a full sheet of drywall?
I put in at least 6 before lowing the lift for a full sheet.
On common framing about 30
I just copied what I saw an older experienced guy doing when I was doing full remodels for somebody else's business, and always do it that way. On the 4' side, one screw around 4" from the ends, one in the center, then two close together evenly spaced between those three. So that's 7 screws per row, and if you have 16" studs and a normal 8x4 sheet that's 8 rows of screws, so 7x8=56 screws per sheet.
I just finished a reno on a dumpster fire house which has the same perpentriangular ceiling traits. On one of the ceilings I installed bead board while the others were vaulted drywall. I was sleeping like a baby through that reno... waking up every hour crying. Then, just because I love giving my therapist a challenge, I decided to install custom beams on the tallest ceiling. I was old school on a scaffold with 'props' but it is on the ceiling and we are in the house and it turned out just fine. So... carry on my wayward son.
I want one of those lifts. I also want to be a lone wolf handyperson.
“A lot of times you need to make adjustments” great motto for work and life.
Brilliant work and thanks for sharing this with us take care
Thanks 👍
Where did you rent the drywall lift from? If from HD, I would love to get you in touch with HD Rental’s marketing folks to see if you want to do a promo in the future.
Thanks.
I rent from HD so much they don't even charge me a deposit anymore. I got the lift there. My email is thehandymanhq@gmail.com

Great job great video, used to watch ur videos all the time. Need to start doing that again!
No helper necessary .
I absolutely love the music-more please
Que the Mexican music at the moment the sheetrock begins 👍
Ah drywall screw gun is exactly what I needed!!!😹
Do you feel better? Hope it made your day 🍺👍
There are never imperfections when you are taking about the NUMBER 1 HOME IMPROVEMENT UA-cam CHANNEL IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. Thanks for the entertainment.
you need a helper to do it for you while you watch the rittenhouse trial. Shit is crazy the prosecution is nuts. World gone mad.
That gives me to much anxiety.
@@TheHandyman1 they wont get a conviction. Prosecution has already been accused of trying to force a mistrial with over the top repeated violations of standing orders in a motion for mistrial with prejudice(basically dismissal) filed and being considered. Thats how bad he is that now he is being accused of intentionally being bad at his job so he can retry after mistrial. I am sure he has made himself very unlikable to the jury.
Not religious but praying for the kid. The business owner, an adult, asking him to guard his store is largely to blame - there were other more responsible options he could've chosen to secure his building. But mostly the fault lies with the idiot vandals & rioters who went out bragging & looking for trouble. They got what they asked for.
@@TheHandyman1 Dugout, Cigar Lounge and Worksite - no politics or religion. Too many guys with hammers..........
Dude I almost got into a crash the other day cause I had the trial on youtube and the dildo prosector was messing with a laser pointer and I looked down.
There he is ya'll, look at em go
I was always taught to install perpendicular to ceiling joists to have more joists to nail to rather than hanging parallel with them. Just curious on your reasoning, not saying one way is correct and one’s not, but looking to learn from your perspective. I know the seams are longer doing it your way for this application. I can see how for the finishing it’ll make for a great time
He is installing perpendicular to the joists, those are 1x4s that are running parallel to the drywall.
@@sjnk77 yes correct, he’s still installing the drywall in a parallel orientation relative to his “joists” (1x4s) doesn’t answer my original question.
More jobsite music! Gotta love it!
Who needs helpers when the theme music is such a great substitute
Low balled or hourly in my youth. No way I'd ever do that again. Good on ya.
last time I did this I had loads of timber lying round so just built a timber version, obvs that thing is more flexible.
Osha is screaming at your click bait 😂
Nice work! I hate helpers, too! I did buy the screw gun, before a bigger job. It’s a fussy tool, but quick. I want a lift, now! The smallest job will justify the purchase, I keep telling myself!
Love the Spanish music btw. I need more of that in my life.
LOL Spanish....
And a beard
The whistlin music is 🔥
Why didnt u use the arms on the sheetrock lifter
Sounds good 👍
Hell yeah handy man. Smarter not harder. 👍💯
I love that tool I work alone as well enjoy watching you
Handyman.. you need a tool belt and not a helper. Great content as usual.
I do. I hate wearing them though.
Wow, that's handy!
I have that gun fought in a used tool store great tool. Used it in a previous life.
Handyman, looks like you've been screwing off all day! 😉
Where do you get your music handyman? Catchy jingle.
www.epidemicsound.com/
I was surprised that you said you were using half inch on the ceiling. I've always done 5/8 in for lid and I thought that was code. Am I missing something?
Most residential does not require 5/8 x rock on ceilings. The only reason people use to do it is to reduce sagging. New 1/2 lightweight drywall is the way to go on ceilings.
@@TheHandyman1 Gotcha, thanks. A big plus on using lightweight rock these days, definitely my go-to.
if only we could all work that fast.
I have the exact screw gun! love it for drywall!
Everyone tells me I need a helper too…I say no way!

I bought a lift from a guy for $125.00. He used it once. I have seen others here in Salt Lake for $150.00. A few jobs and you’ve paid for one. Just sayin.
Love the Mariachi music. Aaaahhhhh Hhhhaaaaa!
Dude just get a helper for a day. Constant up and down on a step ladder. Your knees and legs will thank you for it later.
Most helpers that are unemployed are junkies.
I'm 35 years in and 60. Most desk jockies (and house flippers) are the ones with leg issues. Guys like us that go up and down ladders (and stairs) like it's second nature still play softball and take the Road Glide out on weekends...........and laugh at the ED commercials.
Been doing this stuff for 23 yrs now. Haven't needed a helper yet
Hahah help pffttt
Been there done that on vaulted ceilings using 4x12 board. Less end seams ( non tapered) so easier to mud. I'm old now so don't do a lot of
board work any more but love using a lift when working alone...great vid
To some Tom Brady is the GOAT, others say LeBron, in my world Handyman Andy is the G.O.A.T. 😅 send me hat or something Lol.. great videos.. Im trying to get my own handyman business going.. your videos are on point. My next purchase is an electric sander. Do you recommend battery or corded sander? I love portability of battery tools but I heard the sanders chew and spit batteries
My battery power dewat is the only sander I use now. It's the random orbital sander. I have the corded one too. I have burned up a ryobi battery sander in 2 hours.
Lol! No way you actually play that shit!
for 300$ you woulda banged out that whole room with a pro, instead of taking one day to hang one board, lol
I am the king of doing crap by yourself that one probably shouldn't.
