I've been playing this modern RPG masterpiece, and the only reason I stopped binging it was to pay it tribute, by covering it's boss theme. I do love a good boss theme on this channel. If you haven't played this game, do yourself a favour, it's incredible.

I noticed that alot of covers tend to lose the bassline to backseat in favor of edgie melody.
I know that kind of musical direction is standard in metal, but what profit a song if it gains a genre but loses it's soul?

I agree there are a lot of metal covers out there that lean too far into metal, and too far out of video game music (especially in this 8bit / 16bit style) at least for my tastes anyway.
There's an interesting discussion to be had about it though, I've definitely strayed further in some of my own covers - but always try to keep the essence of the original composition.
