In regards to the story content being lessened in terms of challenge/difficulty: I think it is good that they have shifted it to be more of the "every player" type content. Especially given necropolis, wow, showcase, deathless grind, carinas, there is a good cadence of challenging content being released in conjunction with a reduced story mode.
