- Macbook pro for music production? Best mac for music production? STOP!!
Macs are not the best computers nor the best laptops for music production.
Why do people seem to think they are?
As a music producer you have the choice of switching to MacOS or Windows, because there are DAWs for both systems. What is the smartest choice?
This video is an experiment in giving a strong opinion (I always try to maintain an unbiased view in my videos).
Because mac vs pc is a controversial subject I hope to get a lot of engagement (and see how much this gives a boost by the UA-cam algorithm).
I can thicken this and call people out for example on stuff. But this is a first step.
How do you like these types of videos? let me know in the comments plz.

Everybody seem to think that macs are the best computers for music production or the best laptops for music production.
And I’m here to open your eyes and tell you, that is not the case.
[BUMPER]
2
I’ve tried to maintain an unbiased view in my last videos about laptops and computers for music production.
But Apple has done such a bad job lately that it has become painfully clear that Apple just don’t gives a * about it’s professional users like music producers.
2A
It time for people to start opening their eyes and see the company for what they really are
2B
As a former Apple fanboy I have my fair share of Apple products, so this video doesn’t come from a place of ignorance or fear.
It’s from 10 years of experience of using the most overrated and overpriced products on the planet,
2BB apple products
2C
And I started using Apple products because I intensely hate Microsoft as a computer programmer and the vision of the company.
And now I can say:
from the two worsts, the PC is just the better option.
2D
And it’s not MacOS, Mac OS is the best part of Apple
3
Let me go back a little.
There was a time: 15 years, 10 years and even 5 years ago you had a valid argument by claiming that a mac was the best computer for music production.
But in the meantime the PC has caught up big time and is better suited for music production than ever before.
4
The only valid reason why you could argue that windows is bad is because the poor support for sound drivers.
But the sound quality isn’t any less under windows.
And with daws supported for both mac and pc, pc is just a better option.
4A
So, why are people hung up on this idea that Macs are the best computers for music production?
4B schouders ophalen
4C this is the problem with Apple.
5
Apple’s priorities lie with their iphones.
They make up the biggest share of their revenue and therefore have the most developers behind it
6
when we are talking about the iphone.
What super features were added to the iphone over the last 5 years…. uhh
And what super features were added to ios over the last 5 years …. uhh
7
handoff, which doesn’t work?
or icloud which generates duplicate entries on my phone?
Safari then, how many webpages work properly? 4 out of 5
the usability of iTunes then and the crashes in Final cut pro and the bugs in Logic
7A duplicate notes iphone
7B - notch
you may think that there is something wrong with your screen.
no! that is a design feature!
So let met get rid of that ‘design’ feature.
ahh much better.

haha, yeah that would be a good one!

@@DexxterClarkMusic Thats right. If you pick Bitwig as your DAW, you can run it on Linux... 👍
Why he's using IMac than? 🤔
@@qwertandrew8720 🤔🤔😵
A proper and de-cluttered win10 setup with latency-mon checked between each software change, deactivated network and energy saving settings all to off/max performance on a i7 7xxxx with 32 Gb ram is unbeatable in price and performance for studio work.
A cheap laptop with linux mint on low latency kernel for playing/mixing loops and audio tracks is as unbeatable and ultra stable for stage work.
Both running reaper (with all instruments and production vstis on win and just native audio plugins on linux) is the most flexible and proficient setup on a minimal budget.
Sounds like a great idea! I have an old Toshiba C855-S5347 Laptop with an Intel Celeron CPU running At 1.80 GHz and 4GB of RAM. At first I was just considering to dual boot both Linux and Windows XP just to run FL studio. Based on your idea I could go with the Linux Mint and run FL studio on a virtual machine only to mix and master my music. Now, my question is, do you have a better suggestion?
@@angelrivera8013 mint would surely work well on that system with a lightweight all-native daw/vst as reaper is but I'm not too optimistic about virtual machine/FL on celeron/4GB. Might work, might not. I think the celeron is too weak for that.
Don't dual boot the conventional way as that is prone to instability (check yt for linux/dual boot, there's lots of advice, might be chris titus. And there's a vid about unconventional dual boot with 2 drives which i use).
@@Eleni_Be Thank you so much for your advice and point of view! I think your on to something here, cheers!
@@angelrivera8013 your welcome!
@@Eleni_Be thanks you freakin genius! This is sweet information.
I agree .. been a long time apple product user. Love the phones and tablets but recently when my iMacs video went out on me, apple store wouldn’t repair it because it’s 10 years old. That made me sad and oh well, went and built a new windows based PC. Much easier with upgrades for sure and I’ve been running my music programs with no problems at all.. I replaced Logic with Cubase and Ableton. I replaced final cut with premiere pro.. PC runs flawless and just as well as the iMac did.
yes, that is indeed my point. PC isn't great either, but an Apple is as good as a pc for much less money
Reflow the video card and it will be fine. I’ve fix quite a few.
I’m at this point now so I’ll get a Mac Book Pro 2012 13inch because I need to get some projects down but after this I’m done with Mac. I just don’t have the money right now to switch the software over to the PC system. Mac is turning out to be just like Photo Shop that’s why I went with affinity because I only paid one time and mine.
For being an Apple user for a little over 10 years as well. I must say you sir, are 1000% CORRECT! I’m finally going to make the switch to PC. I’ve had IMacs and MacBook pros and they all seem to have so much issues running Logic Pro x and other Daws smoothly. It overrides, crashes, and overload all the time. My IMac cost over $2000 why don’t I have enough ram in it to run a program they back up? I can’t run any video software on it as well without thinking my machine will malfunction and just blow up one day. It honestly is so mediocre for how much you pay. You can’t even make upgrades (only ram) on your iMac without carrying that hunk of metal to the apple store. I can go on and on with the problems I ran into with Apple over the years. It’s extremely overhyped and not suitable for professional use.
i ve just switched to pc for pro audio..
its such a god sent!!
I can imagine. My next computer is gonna be a pc also.
I was so happy when I made the move 10 years ago, now I got to know the company and am happy to move back to "the dark" side.
@@williamtopping DCP latency is almost always a laptop issue. So merely using a desktop knocks issue off. Secondly, if you insist on using a laptop, just do some research before hand? BIOS, driver, hardware issues can all be sorted out before you spend $. Laptops aren't exactly customizable, so a certain model=a certain model.
Lots of chatter, but no technical information or guidelines as to why the Mac is not the best machine for making music. Sorry, but after 20 years of Windows PC with fast Allen DAW and 12 years of Apple Mac and logic, practical experience as a sound engineer is very important. In terms of music production, the Mac is made up of many such as: - OSX and audio driver and midi driver actions - Signal routing for audio and midi without external software - logic / price and performance) - Thunderbolt interface as standard - Processor performance - hyperthreading - Compatibility external hardware with simultaneous use of Logic and ProTools - dual use of the same driver by several programs ... there was still huge problems to be solved or differentiated with the Windows computer
As an IT director, we have only 15% of computer are macs deployed in the field. They cause 65% of our tickets. Also 100% of the viruses we get now are on apple computers. I traded my $2,300 Mac Pro laptop for a $1,300 (same spec) Microsoft surface 3 laptop and it runs circle around the apple in multi tasking!
Love the video! Trashing Apple is always fun, mainly because they make it real easy... but you've come a long way and I always appreciate a person for personal growth. Kudos buddy.
thanks, always keep growing, always keep learning
One thing for sure, you'll get more bang for the buck with PC. Once you decide to upgrade components. Differences are huge. Period.
Have been saying this for years. Just to expensive for lower specs, only good point is the OS and that is where they get so many people from because they can overprice the rest that way. Look up specs on WINDOWS vs MAC and you'll see the big difference in the same price range. Ok WINDOWS is far from perfect (not a fan from microsoft) but they will never go for perfect because then they can't sell better stuff later on
@@williamtopping what are you even talking about. Resolution vs clock speeds is not a valid comparison. Higher clock speeds do in fact equate to higher performance so long as your talking about CPU's with comparable core counts. Since Apple uses Intel CPU's, the specs on PC options (Intel and AMD) are a direct indication of the performance superiority of PC machines. You can pay less with PC or spend the same amount and out perform even the most expensive Mac options.
I have only just seen this video. I am a big Apple fan and have been using their computers since the late eighties. (Yes I am that old.) I am currently using a 2009 Mac Pro for music production as I feel that Apple's later offerings, with the issues that are described in this video, don't leave me with any viable upgrade path. I have done what I can to keep my computer going but it will not last forever.
My main issues with moving to PC would be the audio drivers and also latency.
Of course they are. When all you want to concentrate on is art, get a Mac. Cause drivers...
Gaming Laptos are good for Music Production ? If yes, wich one would be good to get ? Any advice ?
Thanks ! 👍
in general yes, but look on my website:

Thank you!!! Enjoyed this informative vid. My friends and work associates choose mac but I know better lol
That’s why you buy a refurbished 2015 Retina 15in that’s spec’d tf out. I love MacBooks, but Apple isn’t directly getting anymore of my money for one until they get their shit together.
I hate apple. I'm a huge Android guy. I had an iPhone years ago and never would get another one. But when it comes to computers, I think that Macs are much smoother and can take work load a lot smoother.
You are correct I may buy a PC laptop next...and use cubase!!!
think about it
Thank you sir..... That's why I always use PC all the time..... No problem whatsoever!!!!!!!
I'm glad :)
I used to love the plug and play simplicity of apple products. Changing ports on both ios and mac products just took away that main advantage. You just don’t know anymore whether older gear will work with their ridiculously priced adapter cables or not. Now macs are just freaking headaches. The only people that apple seems to make sense now are people who place more value on the fruit logo than ANYTHING else.
any recommendations for a laptop for a beginner in music production? was going for an apple mac and logic pro.. but this and other videos persuaded me to go for ableton and windows
now?
I do my recommendations in my laptop video ua-cam.com/video/2ImM01dVD0c/v-deo.html
but it is indeed windows biased, the recommendations for components however apply to apple computers as well.
My Mac video is biased towards mac ua-cam.com/video/bW59m9o0yQ0/v-deo.html :)
Ableton isn’t good
Thanks a lot for clearing all doubts.😁
I agree that Windows computer systems can hold their own in the world of creating music, but if a MAC user is using an SSD drive ( Which you can install easily) with at least 16G b of memory should have no problem running any software you throw at it. LINUX / UNIX has less overhead in system processes compared to that of a Windows Machine. That alone is a plus for all MAC machines. IMO - Windows is a great OS though, as well.
although I have to add, when you buy a new computer in 2020 you can get a 10th gen Intel processor.
When you buy a brand new Mac Mini 2020 model in 2020, you get an 8th core processor which is 2 years old ....
The speed increase between 9th and 10th may not be great, but 8th and 9th is, which evens out the headstart.
On top of that the 10th gen has less security issues
I watch almost every you video and I agree with you. But I didnt see any where video exactly about Win vs Mac OS latency comparasion in detalis. Is there any chance that you can make some video about that?
Cheers!
it is dependent on soooooo many factors including drivers of your sound card.
it's hard to make a latency comparison that applies in all situations.
The mac sound drivers in general are better than windows's, one of the few reasons you SHOULD buy a mac
I bought a PC 32 Ram, I9 and I'm having issues with Latency. I'm not sure what is going on, I had a Macbook pro with 8GB of Ram and it was working somewhat better. Any advise please help?
I'm familiar with the Buffer size, I have adjusted that as well, I don't even have any plugins. I'm using the Apollo twin
that could be a number of things.
Mac or not, that shouldn't be the problem.
Try to google the typenumber and see if other people experience the same problems, and what the solutions could be.
For example the Dell XPS 15 is notorious for latency (which by the way should be fixed with a bios update).
It could be the connection (us/firewire/thunderbolt on the Apollo?)
But again, it could be so many things, I can't say what it is going by the info you provide.
There is software to check latency, don't know what it's called.
you could try the internal sound card and see the performance. it rules out the connection or sound card in the equation.
My biggest problem with apple is the fact that the SSD has been soldered onto the motherboard since 2016 . They OVERCHARGE 3-4x the price per terabyte compared to the windows side. Apple 2TB ( NON-REPLACEABLE ssd ) --> 600-800$ .
Windows side 2TB --> roughly 230$ and it s REPLACEABLE. Time to teach them a lesson . Oh and it took them roughly 10 years to put usb c onto iphones … somebody needs to do something to remind them that being greedy is not cool in this world or any world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am also fed up with my MacBook Pro .. well that’s not a pro anymore .. so thinking on designing a hackintosh
Hackintosh is worst of both worlds, usability and support-wise
@@DexxterClarkMusic bro what do you recommend.
Windows, I work with windows since a couple of weeks.
It's not amazing, but it works, which I can't say for both of my macs
You've helped me so much to decide what to get. After lots of shopping around I have bought a dell inspiron which was half the price of the new macbook pro and with much better specs and fully interchangeable parts 👍 your videos are fantastic thank you so much
In the same boat as you. Did you have any latency issues. How has the experience been. Do share.
music production is fine.. but what do you suggest for live performance if you are relying on VST's? could you please suggest one? Thanks .. appreciate your good work.
I made several videos about laptops and types to buy, check them out
Use ableton live and a mac
I hate that I feel tied to Apple. I originally went that route because of Core Audio and my constant ASIO issues on PC, but now I'm so used to the workflow of Logic Pro X and UAD Luna that I'll have to completely relearn if I move over to PC. I do have a Cubase license, so I may go with that if I end up switching back to PC.
I recently made the switch to pc after being an apple fanboy for 10 years.
It definitely had a learning curve, but I don't regret it.
I work with Studio One though, which has a Windows version
Everyone is always complaining about wanting usb type c and they do it and now you complain :x type c won’t work as well with the mag because the connector wouldn’t as easily come out as the last one
the usb-c ports on the pre 2019 MBP wear also out (it's not even in this video) so you get charging problems over time
usb-c for charging is a step back for everyday usage
Yes True Bro The Prices Are Too Expensive They Use Similar Parts Made By Similar Manufacturers Off Course Then WTH We Pay A Lot More Money To Apply …
Well Done Dexter 👍🏼
Thank you for saving my money
0:40 thank you! Amen 🙌
is it too early for a "pcmasterrace" 😅
fijne avond 👌
Tell us something about the Amazing PC reliability, freezing, crushing and compatibility
welcome to mac world with the same complaints
I switched to PC (desktop) 1&1/2 years ago and never had a crash since. My main daw is Cubase which is known for constant crashes with mac OS, but had the same problems with Logic - a mac proprietary software. The only thing I miss with windows is thunderbolt support. The only thing with windows is you need to carefully research and pick your parts. For ex. if you want real time performance, you need to stay away from Nvidia graphic chipsets Cheers!
Rick Beato made a similar video on his frustration with apple.
I don't get it.
They have all the power and resources and still....
I’m looking at buying a laptop. Is the hp pavilion gaming i5 any good?
Specs:
-128gb ssd + 1TB hdd
-core i5-8300H
-15”
-8gb Ram (will upgrade later)
Btw love your videos....
thanks, if you want more info about the subject I've made several videos on the subject, with all the answers you are looking for.
i would choose an i7 latest gen
Looking at cpu benchmark the 8300h is better than popular i7 processors but is it still a good idea to go for an i7?
@@declanb170 Best is to look for highest speed per core=> still not all programs use all cores well so still only use like 2 cores or so. Ok, will drain more power but be better
Wim Van der Velde thanks so much, very helpful. :)
Thanks for the run down on Mac issues. I'm not a Mac user but always admired the style and functional simplicity of the platform. Seems like their quality has really slipped the last several years. Too bad. That said, been a long time Thinkpad owner/user. Very reliable. Guess I'll stick with the devil I know. Thanks
I still admire the simplicity and the way things are solved on the mac.
I use windows now, but I would change it any day of the week for MacOS.
It is all the rest that I'm so glad that I freed myself from the Apple ecosystem.
And I left out so much stuff like security issues, fingerprint scanners not working on 2 phones, broken phone on delivery, battery issues on iphones, icloud not authenitcating, not be able to reinstall macos on my old computer because apple pulled the plug yada yada.
Sorry, I disagree.. I make music on a 2011 MBP and it leaves my 2018 PC with better specs in the dust. Windows is slow, installation is a pain in the rear. Turning off windows defender to save resources takes time because of the many steps to disable it temporarily.
I may not be able to run updated vst’s but what I have is do huge that I don’t find the need yo have the latest and greatest that only needs more space and resources to produce your music.
In the end it all goes back to vintage.
This is true
what about logic pro? You need a mac for that!
I switched to studio one, the bugs in Logic drove me crazy.
But yes, you need a mac for Logic
@DexxterClarkMusic So which PC and setup would you recommend for music producers?
one of my latest videos on the channel answers that question :)
Apple wants us to buy their newer model laptops and upgrade to the latest OS so you're locked in their program. Mac was great between 2007-2015. Now it's becoming one gigantic headache. Plugins no longer working and software/hardware compatibility issues. They don't repair anything, they just sell you more.
HI!! what do you think about hackintosh? is not the best of both worlds? Thanks!
No I think it's the best.
You want a mac because you don't want a lot of hassle with hardware and settings and it always work (in theory).
But that is exactly what you get: hassle with hardware, settings and drivers.
At least in Windows it works, often even without a driver.
You need to have a lot of knowledge to get the right hardware combinations for a hackintosh.
you can't install updates without checking all your hardware first on compatibility
I'm getting my studio back I had to sell my own small setup years ago ...... what's a good computer to get for just recording Hip hop and R&B ....... I guess I'll get the midi keyboard with software sounds but need to know a good pc laptop to get.
I have a playlist with at least 15 videos about computers for music to answer your questions
Can you make a video about the new Asus Zenbook Pro Duo that will be released soon? Thank You!
sure if someone sends me one
Hey! What do you think about mac mini 2018? It is a good option?
I think that the Mac mini is a great option if you want a mac.
You can expand the memory if you want. the rest is soldered to your motherboard
Big problem though..just purchased a ua x6 interface & it requires thunderbolt 3! Have u tried to find a pc that has tb3?! Dell supposedly modded an xpc & it's going back bc they put the card in but it's not connected! I'm retired so on a budget..any recommendations would b appreciated for a tb3 desktop PC that doesn't cost more than my car..the Dell was $1400 w free financing for 18 months
if you have a desktop you can buy an I/O card
This is why real Mac Pro MUSIC users Know how to pick an OS version and a COMPUTER and DAW version and -STICK WITH IT FOR YEARS! !!! I went once for 4 years without updating ANYTHING on my production machine. And when it was time to "update" I started fresh with a DIFFERENT everything!!!
NEW Computer! New software version! New interfaces! That way-if I had a fail-I plug in the old system (load files) and 20 minutes later I'm working again!
My 2 cents:
Yes..the PC has no problems ...LOL....yes they do ...like all of them as well. I have both environments..for years. And al long as the PC is dependent on Bill...it doesn't matter what hardware you put under it...Cause Bill all test everything very will..not... LOL.
I use Ableton Live Suite (v10 at this moment) on both...PC 2015 (i7 4 core, SSD and 32 GB) iMac late 2012 (i5 4 core, SSD (yes upgrade) and 32 GB)iMacmuch more...And the later is so much more important for a good workflow...And price ...PC and screen were more expensive than my iMac . I have to admit I bought the Imax during MediaMarkt BTW free days :-) But don't blame me for buying smart.
My next buy will be Mac mini M series because I want big screens (24 is to small)...once all software I need is M-prove.
Funny that you say that about the big screen.
Every time I recommend a big screen, I get so much heat in the comments
This days Windows are very ok they have improved and gived better results and flexibility
Preach on
what do you think about surface?
build quality is good, but performance is not optimal due to lack of cooling due to the small form factor
i am getting sick of using a mac, but I use logic pro x so it is a hassle. i’m not gonna buy a new pc and a new daw 🤣
How about the latency problem? Any difference between two for now?
between windows and mac?
@@DexxterClarkMusic ya windows laptops have chronic latency problems due to the way windows 10 is set up on portable devices, requiring tweaks to the extent that they become cumbersome for non music tasks
@@DexxterClarkMusic Yes, a lot of windows laptops these days seem to have trouble with DPC Latency. I own a Thinkpad P Series and it has trouble with it, giving me audio dropouts. The older version did not have this problem apparently. Windows desktop PCs don't seem to have this issue as well (if built well). Because of this I'm seriously considering that apple laptops might be the smarter choice now, if you are required to hav a mobile set up
is Microsoft surface pro 6 is good option for music production??
build-wise yes, but spec wise it's a bit slow compared to the competition
Check out Molten Music or Surface Pro Audio, he has the best info on how the surface devices perform for real time music. Windows as a portable system is really not built for that kind of application without heavy tweaking, but check out his stuff to see if what works for him is usable for you
I Got Apple Watch, iPhone, Air Pods But Windows Laptop LMAOO
Good points!
thanks
No OS systems are perfect. Windows 11 version 22H2 does not work on Universal Audio because of DRIVERS. Core Audio on Mac allows you to aggregate audio interfaces. If you ask me Mac OS is better than Windows
audio driver wise, the mac has indeed a leg up
I just use a Mac because it annoys people. Oops.
haha
Lol
I love the way you Mac it baby 🤪 thx 🙏
thanks for watching :)
They didn't switch to USB-C so that they could cash in on more broken computers. They switched to USB-C so you could attach one cable and you could add peripherals and charge your device with ONE cable. And so you could use the same charger as your phone and other devices, and so it's the same standard that ALL laptops are moving towards.
A non-proprietary charging and data port is a rare occasion apple actually did the right thing.
Otherwise love your videos and information, but have to disagree about this one point.
This seems counter-intuitive. Prior to USB-C, if you wanted to charge your phone you only needed one cable. Now you need two (phone cable and the adapter cable). Same with using a USB audio interface.
@@shannonb.4540, Apple are a counter-intuitive company. They think of any way to fleece people and it always works!

"WINDOWS is terrible" ... is what I also said 10 years ago and switched to mac.
Now I say the same thing from the opposite side and am switching back
Don't know about the hackintosh thing.
You can better buy a pc with windows or an original mac.
At least you don't have to worry if your hardware is compatible with weird software tweaks, and you can update against the newest virus/malware threats.
Dude i love you lol
:)
One word, Logic.
one word: bugs
Dexxter Clark Music of course, Windows has bugs. Its good to use MacOS over it. ^^
Hear me out, I'm gonna get a bit political here. Given that those with left-leaning tendencies hate Colonialism (which I feel is morally solid) tend to buy Macs, why do they often cater to a company that has a Colonialist business acumen? Yes, Colonialism is bad: "You can't chop down trees with an axe you have built. You must use our axes." "You cannot open locks with keys of your own design, you must use our keys." "Do not think for yourself, trust US!" Is this lust for Macs due to their hip advertising? Is it the funky-fresh colors and structural design? After all, a PC looks like a big black shoebox typically - not a conversation piece. However, I can fix or upgrade my PC without question for little to no money and it is much more compatible with other systems. I just don't get it.
Yea I never got it either. The argument that Mac is easier to use, is kind of valid, but for me it is just an exchange for money. And I like building PCs and informing myself about the tech. So Mac is out of the picture for me anyway.
It's a combination of many factors of which (seeming) simplicity, good marketing, swarm "intelligence" and lifestyle are important ones.
I remember the late 80ies when macs began to be a thing here in europe everybody considered cool, worldwise, intellectual and a bit of renegade of course bought an apple Macintosh.
I had lots of experience with the earliest personal computers and never was a fashion victim, but when i bought my first apple powerbook, i nearly felt the urge to tell everybody that now i was an apple convert, too.
That ended in1995 with win95 and linux, but it was an intense experience of a closed and elitist group.
One word: Hackintosh!
that's not a viable option for everyone. You need to know exactly what you are doing.
And with apples weird security problems lately it is useful if you can upgrade... and your can't very easily do with a hackintosh
@@DexxterClarkMusic I see what you are saying, then again it is not that off a tideas option anymore so many you tubers deticated to hackintoshes. I use my own old system rocking a i3 duo core processor with 8gb ddr3 memory and a simple graphicscard with Sierra, now this system is 10 years old and have been using it as a hackintosh for the last 5 years never have security issues just runs fine and i bought a second handed 2012 MacBook pro on marktplaats and upgraded the ram to max and ssd and runs smooth. 🙏👌😎
you're out of your mind..Open your ears! I just went over to pc from my 12YEAR OLD Mac , for the reasons you have mentioned..to wit, that pc has caught up..The only reason I am here is to possibly find out why the sound on my new pc is so ABYSMALLY BAD compared to my ancient macbook..No luck. Just misinformation and glaring avoidance of the obvious
try new drivers for your sound card, that is the part that makes the bad sound
The pc itself isn't going to make the sound bad if you have it set up right with the right drivers installed!!
@@ruddock7 Thanks for the advice and congrats on missing the point entirely

I can totally understand your anger and I agree: MACs (or more precise: Apple products) are not a good deal for customers.
I had two expensive mac-books and both broke down within a period of two to three years of usage. The warranty has expired and the repair-costs apple asked for where inconceivable.
My opinion: Apple products are not worth their price!
Well I don’t know what’s been going on in the last few years, but my MBP 2012 is still going strong
there is some hope for the new MBP 2019 16" that recently came out.
It's too early to make a judgement if it's good or bad.
Apple needs to go back to their old quality standards
Dexxter Clark - DJ & Music Production tutorials, Apple seemed to drop the ball not that long after Steve’s passing, it’s not the manufacturing that’s the issue, it’s the quality control both on hardware and software fronts.
I remember Steve was quite strict standards, and at the moment they don’t have anyone that particular with a vision to iron out the kinks so to speak.
Until another visionary who take pride in what they do steps up, Apple will continue to make stupid mistakes.
At least that’s how I see it anyway
I think you have a solid point:
Apple doesn't take pride in what they are doing.
I miss the we-are-awesome policy in Apple stores for example
@@DexxterClarkMusic I bought a Macbook Pro 16" fully maxed out and sent it straight back last week. I tested it with 8 plugins in a row on a single track and it locked up. I couldn't believe it. Only one track in Cubase and it couldn't handle it. They weren't even demanding plugins. My 2012 PC can do better than that.
@@DexxterClarkMusic Hi! now thats been a while since MBP 16" is out. Would you recommend buying it? if so ... I7 or I9???
I still use my 7th gen iPod 160gb as a music player, it's the best thing apple ever made. I'll never own or overpay for an iPhone or MacBook. I use pc for music production, loading music on my iPod taught me long ago that apple hates it's customers lol.

In my opinion, the point it has never been the hardware, but the OS. Apple used to put very good hardware in their machine, that were anyway upgradable (even if a lot less than PCs), but the strong point was Mac OS. It had the stability and the simplicity to let you work with reliability without too much stress. Today apple is selling us bad shit, but a Win10 machine can be so stable, reliable and so on so you can work without worries? Do you stil have to format your os HD every six months like you had to because of Windows registry making everything slow after 3 months of use?
If it's not so anymore, I think my next computer won't be an Apple one .. (But I hope the my i9 Hackintosh desktop workstation bought one year ago will work for a loooong long time :-). )
can you tell me the specs my friend?
@@uberN32 i9 8c/16t, 32gb RAM, 512 GB nvme HD, 1Tb nvme for samples, FireWire card, 4 free slots for additional HD, 8Gb sapphire video card.. if U wanna know exactly the codenames I should wait to turn on the computer
I think you stated your point before, instead of shitting on tech companies can you make tutorials about actual music production? I don't believe you hold the authority to say that one computer is better than another one. A good music producer can create great hits despite the rig they use its all about the taste and overall musical knowledge.
these computer videos help me to gain momentum on youtube.
more music production tutorials are definitely coming up.
check my videos page and see how well my tutorials are doing and how well the computers videos are doing :)
Former Windows fan boy here. I was all Windows until Win 10 came out. Garbage....slow and clunky. I bought 2 used Apple computers. Mid-2012 MacBook Pro and Late 2012 Mac Mini. Both 16GB memory, i7, and with SS drives running Catalina with no problems . Won't go back to Windows. My audio latency is better on Mac.
Yeah, man! I hear that! (no pun)
Buying an 8 year old used laptop, whether or not it's a mac in pristine condition.. daring. It all sounds very counterintuitive unless you were solely using them for sound design/gig work - that I can see. Funny I used mac for 15 years, I'm just starting to peel away now. Everything from their business model to their fascist OS to their hardware locked products give me dead D syndrome lol.
You can’t use audio on a PC outside of your DAW. Yeah, it’s not earth shattering, but it’s annoying as hell. Aggregate audio/midi on Mac is great.
My macbook pro 13 2019 is fucked in 3 years battery is gone I'm upset
Hey! Macs are said to be more stable on live use. Ableton for EDM for example.
What do you think about this and
after two years what do you think about the M1 chip?
Thanks for the video when I was just on the edge of buying a new laptop
the new M1 lineups are way better than before, they've outgrown the childrens diseases.
Apple lost its way after the death of Steve....Now tim cool is overcooking rhe company
But i only use logic for 12 years now. Too hard to switch :/
The truth 100%
or 101% ;)
What does Microsoft stand for and why do you hate it?
You really need to update this for the Silicon era. Maybe your view has changed? Or maybe just another rant? 😀
yeah I should.
I could ALWAYS do another rant ;)
@@DexxterClarkMusic Oh well, I am stuck with Logic Pro, so I don’t even know why I am listening to these rants, although I do enjoy them 😀 I think it’s because I want to escape from the Apple universe (help!), but getting a DAW as packed as Logic Pro would be an extra and big expense.
That notch was hella annoying , idk how apple users deal with it and other inconveniences.
it is STILL annoying :)
Is music made in windows the same as Mac in terms of quality or is Mac better? Any help would be appreciated!
doesn;t matter at all.
Depends more on audio processing by your DAW and your sound card
@@DexxterClarkMusic awesome thank you so much. Great content as always. I use cakewalk for windows and logic for Mac but since my Mac is weak and I can't afford a new one I'm switching to windows. Thank you so much for the info
Yeah so the options? U talk about nothing my dear
I have a playlist with computers for music production with at least 15 videos about the topic
@@DexxterClarkMusic thanks im going to check
How about Linux, Harrison Mixbus, Ardour and the like?
Good luck on your options, sir
I've been using linux for 20 year now, but still there are so many annoying things about linux.
Failing update issues, bad performance, lack of proper software support beyond word processing and browsing the internet. There is much out there, but never has the functions you want and it never works properly.
I've tried so many distributions over the years. In this distribution you have problems with this driver, in that distribution that doesn't work.
The lack of coherence is it's biggest weakness.
The best "linux" I've found is MacOS.
Linux is fine for a web sever (that is what I use it for), but not a viable option as your daily desktop computer.
@@DexxterClarkMusic I think Linux distributions have evolved, way beyond what you recollect. Distributions like Ubuntu and openSUSE Tumbleweed are very stable and well supported.
The thing is to run a studio on Linux is not an option IMHO.
I know some people that do it, but you need some knowledge and skill. I have used Linux in the studio as a server. I could let things render (mainly stuff for film or audio mixes with lots of tracks) and get on with the rest of my work in the old days. Computers were slow back in the nineties and we were shifting from analogue tape to digital at that time.
My favorite DAW is Logic Pro mainly because I am used to it since the 90s when it was still Emagic (met een duitse smaak). Anyway, I'm watching the MAC space for these new silicon chips. I think music production at home might just have gotten cheaper and easier, or is on the verge of it. I think, in spite of all the things and possible pitfalls you so aptly and poignantly point out, that these are exciting times again!
its all about looking professionalism when you are producer using a mac it means you dead serious don't get me wrong windows are also good but mac has that thing that spark as an artist
