No she doesn’t. She ends back up with Dina you can tell because when she went to go finish her off she didn’t have dinas wrist band but she had it in the prologue
Kinda ironic that Joel sang "If I ever were to lose you I'd surely lose myself", and that's exactly what happened to Ellie. I think we all had a good cry at the end of this game. Very emotional.
@@rukitlas7130 I'm pretty sure that would have been epic. Then people would mod the game to have a zombie ellie who comes back from the grave to seek revenge
Shannon Woodward (Dina's VA and mocap) said that watching Ellie (through Dina's eyes) was like watching someone you love who is 'sick' just keep getting sicker and sicker and knowing you can't do anything to help them. Damn that fucked me up...
She could've done something and that was be understanding. Granted, Ellie did a bad job at explaining to her why she had to go, but she should've still tried to understand. Ellie had to go for herself. For peace of mind. She said it herself. She doesn't eat or much at all and same with sleeping. She was in a position of damned if you do and damned if you don't. If she stayed then what she was constantly going through would've only gotten worse. It didn't take much at all to trigger an episode in the barn. It was either go and hopefully resolve her inner demons or stay and potentially harm others during an episode or regretfully taking her own life because she wants the pain to stop. Turned out to be fine though seeing how shes wearing Dina's bracelet at the end among other little hints.
@@Evilshtt353 I think she was more than being understanding. Ellie on the other hand wasnt. Throughout most of the game she became selfish much like joel. Dina put up with most of her stuff. But it was just too much for her to live HER life and raise JJ at the same time. Ellie was on the path of moving on before Abby ambushed them on the theatre AND before Tommy arrived in their farm house.
@@Evilshtt353 but dina is also physically and emotionally exhausted. she understands ellie, she has been very understanding since the very beginning. she knows it’s not what ellie needs and in the end no matter how much she fought abby, it didn’t help her as much as she thought it would be. and honestly, no one can help ellie. she has her eyes blinded by her goal and her love for the people around her were overshadowed by anger, rage and fear.
They don't reveal until the end of the game that ellie decided to try forgiving joel the day before he was killed. That's why she had to go revenge mode so hard.

@@DCFAN-lh9kf thank you for being mature about it and politely expressing your distaste, I personally really liked it but I can definitely see why some people wouldn't and that's completely fine
No it doesn't. Quit preaching. Even Neil and the actors haven't specified any meaning. For all we know she's coming back later for it along with other stuff. Until there's clarification, we just don't know.
Most people saw this and thought this story was about revenge and forgiveness but I mostly just saw it as like a manifestation of people not being able to cope with their grief. First Joel with Sarah, then Abby with her dad, then Ellie about Joel.
It can be about more than just one thing. There's lots that one can take away from the overall story, the individual stories of the characters as well as their interconnected relationships and fates.
Well it was about grief but it was also about revenge at the end Ellie coming to the conclusion and realization that revenge was not worth her becoming a stone killer and lost everything she care for. Remember one of her biggest fear was she would end up alone and that exactly what happened due to revenge.
The last flashback makes you understand that this isn't a story about vengeance, but about forgiveness. Abbyy not only killed Joel, but she robbed Ellie of the chance to forgive Joel. That's why she couldn't stay with Dina and just had to chase down Abby. I also love how the new start screen after finishing the game is Abby and Levs boat at the coast of Catalina Island (they got there! :D)
I didn't see it to be a story of vengeance or forgiveness, both is dumb as f to want to fight someone over and over and over again. I saw it to be a story of ego. One wants to get the best of the other over and over again
Also ellie is very insecure about her survivors guilt. People have always died because of her. Riley, Marlene, Joel, Jesse etc.. in her ptsd episode it’s clear she really blames herself more than abby
@@pabletofusketo It's confirmed that it is Catalina Island. But a very odd choice to have the two look so similar. They could have easily made them look different, kind of dumb. But whatever.
Yeah that moment of realisation plays out in a second during the fight but then is contextualised by the final flashback between Ellie and Joel. Ellie realises that if she could forgive Joel she can forgive Abby. Everyone needs forgiveness
Ellie lost her best friend Jesse Lost her gf Dina Lost her son she had with Dina Lost Joel above everything Lost the ability to play guitar correctly Lost her mother's knife fighting Abby And now she is alone
The last scene with Joel was proof that Ellie wasn't really angry at Abby for killing Joel, but she was more angry at herself for not forgiving Joel for all those years- with Abby taking him away right when she finally decides to repair her relationship with Joel. Also, it's implied that Ellie and Dina are still together (wristband on her wrist after retuning) and moves back to Jackson, staying with Jesse's mother/family (it was in a note saying they're always welcome), with her hopefully getting the help she needs now that she has a proper community of support around her.
@@Copperbollex I honestly don't think Ellie's ready to be in an isolated environment like that until she resolves her trauma. Throughout her journal, it's her getting triggered about Joel/Abby with every interaction she had while out there. She can always go back to the farm when she's in a more stable condition, so they both probably realized that it just isn't the right time. They did leave their personal stuff like artwork and music in that room, so it's definitely a possibility that they're temporarily leaving it behind to come back to.
exactly, Revenge was an excuse for Ellie, at the end it s just about her wasting years being angry at joel for nothing. she wasted their relationship and after Joel died, she wasnt able to forgive herself. it s also interesting to see Abby looking a lot like Ellie in the last fight...like fighting an alternate version of herself... not killing Abby was the start of forgivness.
Ironic Ellie says if she died her life would have mattered without realizing to Joel, Ellie's life mattered so much that he deemed it more important than the entire human race.
I also think it's nice how you can tell she's accepted what he did the day after in the jackson section. She talks about how she'd like to die of old age which is something I only noticed on my second playthrough
I'm sad that she missed the happy Joel flashback when Ellie was about to drown Abby. That's critical in explaining Ellie's change of heart. But nonetheless it's been a great series. Cascina's expressions will be missed. :')
Valiant Hearts: The Great War was a game I didn't expect to sob so much that my entire face became drenched in tears Other games that made me weep were Telltale Walking Dead season 1, Last of Us 1 and 2 of course.
Your attitude toward Abby when she killed Joel VS your attitude toward her during the fight with Ellie at the end just shows Naughtydog’s master ability to tell a good story with fantastic characters. They really took us on an emotional roller coaster with this amazing game!
I literally felt the same. At first I hated playing as Abby. But after seeing what she lost to Ellie (Like her actual dad, Manny, her bf, the pregnant one) I really rooted for Abby. I didn't wanna fight Abby in the end and literally did nothing to see if I could "win" the fight by doing nothing. But then I realized I had to fight Abby and eventually kill her. (Ellie wouldn't fuck with Abby if she wasn't that starved to death 😂😂) I was amazed how I was actually confused for who I was rooting for in the end. What an amazing game
I completely agree, although sadly most who played this don't seem to see it that way, & that just makes me lose more faith in people. I mean if people can't find a way to empathize with Abby here, then I say they have to be an incredibly selfish person. Sadly, most ppl in my experience are incredibly selfish, so it's honestly not that surprising knowing what I know about people as a whole. I'm just glad that there are SOME ppl out there that are better than that. I feel sorry for those who couldn't appreciate this game or feel empathy for Abby.
The last scene with Ellie and Joel absolutely broke me in my first playthrough when I realised it was their last conversation and Ellie didn’t get the chance to forgive Joel.
Ironically, if Ellie wasn't looking for Abby, She wouldn't have lost Dina or JJ. She would not have lost her fingers. And surely Abby would have died. "Maybe it was meant to be". how Marlene ever said.
I dont think is a final sad at all. I read one interesting theory about the final: At the end Ellie returns to the farm, it should be noted that she has Dina's bracelet, (when she did not have it when she left the farm, nor when she was in Santa Barbara) and that she does not have any of the weapons in her backpack, apart from that she is not wearing the same clothes as in Santa Barbara which implies that Ellie probably went to Jackson before going to the farm, to apologize to Dina, who is at the house of Robyn, Jesse's mother, since she leaves him a letter on the farm that says they and JJ will always have a home in Jackson. We can assume that Dina has already forgiven Ellie and only returns to the farm to get her things, mainly the guitar. When she tries to play it and realizes that she can no longer, she remembers again the last night she was with Joel, where It is revealed that Ellie wanted to start forgiving Joel, but when Abby killed him, she stole that from him. Keep in mind that the guitar represents the relationship between Joel and Ellie, as Ellie was taking Joel's most violent qualities and playing the guitar to feel close to him, now that she can no longer play it, she realizes that her The trip changed her, she cannot continue to be consumed by violence, that is why she keeps the best memories of him, decides to forgive him and overcome her anger, she no longer suffers attacks (that we remember they began with Joel's bloody face when now he only looks calm and happy with his guitar, also that before were similar to Abby's nightmares, with both walking a corridor and precensing the death of their parents) Forgiving Joel and Letting Abby go is what finally heals her pain. So she leaves the guitar because he no longer needs it, Joel will always live inside it, and she goes to Jackson with Dina and JJ
@@LA-ev9tq I think she forgives Joel because losing her connection to him (she can't play Joel's song because of her fingers) was the only thing tying Joel's spirit to her idea of revenge.
Kinda yes. I mean she went thru the last part alone bc she wanted but I kinda hope when she got home she already knew no one was there, she didn't even have guns so I really hope she is in Jackson now with her family and that

But after watching video essays on TLOU2, it slowly becomes one of my personal favourite games. People say Joel died for nothing, but he did. He died saving Ellie, his death just came 4 years later. And now Ellie has a chance to finally move on in her life and find redemption as well as her purpose in life.
@@highimdamon7101 the only issue in the last of us 2 is the way joel died it was dumb joel and tommy knows better than giving thier names to strangers and going to thier territories they killed joel so fast at the start of the game by a random new character we only play as him like 2 minutes in the second game joel was the main character in the first game even more important than ellie imaging nathan just die that fast in uncharted 5 or something or deacon from days gone just die in a second game in the first hour it was horrible the way they killed joel they couldve give him a way better death or just dont kill him at all or just let us play few hours as him not just 2 minutes apart from joels death to me the game is great
@@smackingnoobsonfriday134 yeah I cannot disagree that the structure and pacing of Part 2 definitely has some major issues. But Joel and Tommy trusting strangers is actually part of the story. There are notes scattered across the game which suggest that people in Jackson actually started to be more open and trustful to strangers instead of being selfish. But then again, I get why people are mad at Joel dying in the first 20 or so minutes of the game cuz it’s really stupid. Some might even say it’s only for shock value but I don’t think that’s the case( reason stated on my first comment). But yeah, I get that they wanted to show how cruel and violence the world of TLOU is by just killing Joel off so abruptly, but we can all agree that this is not the way. I think they should’ve let us play as Abby for the whole game to set her up and build up her character so we can relate to her as to why she wanna kill Joel. Then in the 3rd game have Abby kill Joel. That would make a whole lot more sense. And this is also why Part 2 feels a lot like 2 games combining into one.

Like all normal players. Abby part was much better than Ellie's, sure Ellie kills story was good, especially the kills , but the gameplay was slow and repetitive , especially day 1 and 2, on the contrary from Abby.
@@TheBlueGrinchofSurgery I feel like on TLOU3 they can do better, I mean, Ellie decided to save Abby and she however lost everything, she can't play the guitar, her girlfriend left her, Abby is alive and Tommy is also mad at her, so now she's completely alone just because she let all her emotions to te control of her decisions and they cna make something interesting continuing the Ellie's plot in order to make her a more interesting character regarding all the situation that happened on this game
Many people don't understand the whole game it is meant to be a rollercoaster ride of emotions and so it was. For me this game was an absolute masterpiece storywise. I understand why Ellie would be so mad at Joel for so long he lied to her for so long and he broke promises a couple of times.
I don't think I've ever felt this much emotion watching any other Let's Play. Someone should've told Ellie that her life DOES matter, even though she didn't die in that hospital. She made Joel a happy man and a proud father, she helps Jackson take care of patrols, she helps people.
That’s one of the reasons why I dislike this game. Abby never took the time to understand Joel’s motives. And no one ever told Ellie how much she really mattered to people. Joel kind of did at the end, but I really wish that someone told Ellie “the world would’ve been a lot darker without you.”
@@katlyndobransky2419 they would have to know what ellie was thinking at what joel did to have a reason to tell her that. The only one who knew was Tommy and he was hell bent on revenge. @@noellalexander9527 you’re right, no one else ever does. But two people should be enough. And might I point out again THAT JOEL SAVED HER! They were literally unarmed. And don’t get me wrong, I felt like Ellie shouldn’t have killed Abby in the end, she suffered enough and was unarmed. But Joel was in the same situation. I don’t usually do headcanons, but if I was a part of this game I would’ve did a few things differently, such as Abby’s backstory and Joel’s death. They should’ve made Abby the daughter of someone that Joel killed while he was a hunter, and Joel shouldn’t have been killed by a golf club. They obviously wanted to mock him. I read a fanfic somewhere where Abby was a victim of someone that Joel killed and randomly shot Joel while he was away from the group. He didn’t save her, he never even talked to her. That is far more realistic than what I had to play
Detail: In the final scene, Ellie's boat is facing inwards, indicating that she hasn't yet overcome her traumas and resentments, and consequently her thirst for revenge. On the other hand, Abby's boat is facing outwards towards the sea, indicating that she has already moved on and is possibly ready to sail in other waters. I found this detail incredible.
the fact that in her hunt for abby, she not only lost jesse, tommy, dina, and jj, but she also lost her fingers and therefore her ability to properly play the guitar: her last connection to joel
@@lol4409 but she doesn't need to anymore. by not killing abby when she could, she finally understood that joel's decision was not as selfish as she had thought before. not an act of "i know better than you" but an act of faith in humanity. he understood, instinctively, that ellie's immunity was more valuable to humanity with her being alive. that quality is more important than quantity, if you will. she understood that in this mmoment, because she felt that if she killed abby, all hope for humanity would be lost. that instead of forgiving joel she could forgive abby. and by doing that, she could finally let go of her need to cling to joel via the guitar and go forth on her own path.
Sometimes giving up the connections are neccessary to heal. Holding on is natural but ultimately what her entire problem was about. She needed to say goodbye. Which I'm just now realizing means that if she hadn't fought Abby and lost her fingers she may not have been able to move on. Shit.
@@noellalexander9527 yes. but i wouldn't say that the she gave up her connection to joel. rather that it is now strong enough to not need the aid of that guitar anymore ;-)
Also when Ellie is holding Nora at gun point and yells stfu to the Soldiers abt to shoot her, Abby yells the same exact thing in the same tone to Tommy b4 shooting him.
my favorite is "I got you" which gets said in a bunch of different scenes/contexts, but most relevantly when Joel picks up Ellie in the hospital and when Abby picks up Lev on the beach in the same way. And when Ellie helps Dina to the theatre, and when she picks up JJ from his crib, it's just all so sweet and heartbreaking at the same time
I don't think I'll ever be able to watch the last hour of game without sobbing my eyes out. no matter how many times I see Ellie try to play Joel's song after losing her fingers, I will always sob uncontrollably for at least another 30 minute's.
On my 1st playthrough, Joel dying in the beginning, then Jessie, Ellie leaving Dina, the death of Yara... I was an emotional wreck and when Abby says to Lev, "I got you." my mind flashed back to Joel carrying Ellie out of the hospital, the floodgates opened, and I broke down and started sobbing uncontrollably. I had to push pause for like five minutes to regain my composure.

Games have reached a point where the depth of character and plot development, along with quality of graphics, means they are comparable in terms of our emotional investment in them, as well crafted films or TV series. Possibly more so, for some of us, as a full game run through like this lasts longer than a film, and the fact that you are interacting with the characters and to some extent making decisions - which you never do while passively watching a film - means you're drawn into it. I get what you mean, anyway.
Did anybody else realize the way Ellie was gonna kill Abby in front of Lev is the same way Ellie almost watched Joel die in the first game? That was the first time Ellie took a life too, you’re climbing a ladder then *BOOM,* some guy knock you off and he starts drowning you. And then Ellie “really shot the hell out of that guy,” and that was the moment they actually became close. When they trusted each other. And the fact that Abby’s now being drowned by Ellie really drives home the parallels between Abby and Joel. Loss took away their humanity, and love gave it back.

@@furqaanilahi8078 i havent replayed the game since october so im trying to remember this by memory correctly. on the path to the first open map area in the game, there is dialogue with dina about the first time they killed someone. ellie describes the encounter from the hotel, and i think dina describes shooting someone when she was like 11 or something. i think it's the scene right after we talk to maria about leaving but it gets kinda foggy for me right there so 😅

I like to think that Ellie went to Jackson and apologized to Dina before the scene where she goes to their old house. It’s because during the final fight, Ellie doesn’t have Dina’s bracelet; but when she goes to the old house, she does.
I’d like to think that because i want the happy ending but in complete honesty i think that Ellie put the bracelet in her bag to keep it from breaking and when she got back to the house she put it back on.
I believe Ellie helped Dina move everything out of the house after apologising, because if you look at where the dust has settled, there are clear spots where some of the household items used to be. It takes between 2 days and 2 weeks for dust to start accumulating in an area.
I’m personally Team “Let Both My Girls Be Happy”, both my big girl and my gay girl, and I’m glad the game gave me that. Abby found the fireflies, and Ellie lets go of everything holding her back from being happy, and I like to think Ellie goes back to Jackson and Dina. : ) Edit: and another thing, I’m happy Abby’s ending isn’t really shown. This was always Ellie’s game and her story, even though Abby’s such a huge part of it. Showing the Boat beached on Catalina island in the title screen is more than enough. Perfect choice on NDs part.
I think in another life they would've been best friends tbh. They had a lot in common i think. They were mentally scarred and traumatized at young ages, and that makes them prone to violence too. It's just sad :(
I'm on the same team. I think, since Ellie had the bracelet when she went back to the farm the last time, she already made up with Dina. I feel at least.

"Ellie better save Abby or I'm not really mad at any character if I was in their position I would have done the same thing" that's the sentence Naughty dog was waiting for every players.. this game had so much things to learn for players fear, courage, surviving, hard deciscions... but the most important detail is ignored during the whole game because we are so much angry about Joel's death we don't even try to know the real reason. Revenge is just a circle of violence without end and won't stop the pain, that's not the way to find peace with yourself, that's not justice ! Cascina has the most purest heart I've ever seen in TLOU let's play, she just give the reason why haters are zero argument to put their hate on this masterpiece.
But Abby gets revenge and gets away with a kid she abandoned all of her friends for... She does a lot of bad shit but she still gets to go. Ellie gets nothing.
As someone with PTSD, I really liked the ending of this game. This is just my opinion, but for me - At the end Ellie was suffering with PTSD, obviously - not sleeping, not eating, the flashbacks, the going off by herself into the woods, and the feeling she HAD to go after abby - is realistic to me. it's difficult to describe anyone without it, but PTSD can often feel like you are physically trapped with no way out of your own reality. That your whole life is closing on you. That the past is forever there, suffocating you. Obviously you relive it through flashbacks, but it's more than that. When Ellie said she had to go after abby, it was because she felt she had to not because she wanted to - She wanted to stay with her new family, but she had to stop her brain reliving the traumatic past again and again. She had to escape the trap, and she felt the only way was to kill abby - the person who really made her feel trapped to begin with. but I think she knew, deep down, it wouldn't help her escape. but hey, desperate times, amiright? When ellie finally confronted abby, what were her words? "I cant let you leave" She could have said anything else "I won't let you leave" or "I'm going to kill you". Those would be words from someone confident, someone making the rules. but she didn't. those words "I can't let you leave" were very specific. they're words from someone not in control - someone who feels they didnt make the decision. A soldier following orders would say "I can't let you leave" or someone feeling like they had no choice in the matter, someone trapped - like ellie. At the very end ellie didnt have to kill Abby. When she was on the verge of killing abby, when abby couldnt fight back and was about to drown, Ellie had basically won at that point. it didnt even matter if abby lived or died past that point, as there was nothing abby could have done to change the outcome, and ellie realized that she probably has "won". And it didn't help. There was no opening of the trap, it didnt fix anything so she let abby go and she wept. still trapped. It wasnt until she came back, sat alone with guitar she could no longer play, and thought about joel and forgiveness that, maybe, she realized that the only way out of the trap was to forgive the mistakes of the past. forgive yourself for not being able to change the past. forgive others for being human. I dunno. maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see, see what makes sense to me. But still, I like the ending. People complain about the ending, saying ellie didn't get her revenge against abby. but they miss the fact that everything after the farmhouse - Ellie isnt going for revenge. Shes going because she feels like she has to, to try to fix herself.
I completely agree with you. I have spent so much time thinking about this game and have been analyzing it a lot. Seeing that someone shares the same opinion as I do is actually quite refreshing because otherwise, it's just people complaining about the ending since they don't deeply understand it. Naughty dog put a lot of thought and psychology into this game which is why I love it so much. this game means so much to me and has so much more meaning to it than most think it does
As a fellow sufferer of PTSD, I agree completely. Ellie having a good flashback of Joel, was the first sign of healing. I completely understand why she let Abby go at that point. I would have done the same if it meant I could have good memories of my loved one again. Up until that point, her only memories of him would be his bloody messed up face. What a lot of people don't realize is that PTSD doesn't kick in right away. It can take weeks (or in rare cases, years) before the PTSD starts. So flashbacks to the museum and stuff were before the PTSD was fully there. From my point of view, this game was done incredibly well. It's one of the best representations of PTSD I have ever seen. And it made me feel a little less alone for being a sufferer as well. Hope we both continue on the path of healing, my friend. Hopefully one day we can self heal as well.
I was definitely the second one lol. The very ending, though, with the flashback to Joel, made me realize the real point of the game...and I felt like a jerk. On a second playthrough, I allowed myself to feel something for Abby and empathize with her. I don't think I can ever forgive her...but I would like to try.
@@anthonynelson6249 I like to think that’s the main point of the game. Can you forgive the unforgiveable or be stuck in an endless selfdestructing spiral.
I do want to see her play more games tho!! Btw everyone notices that Ellie got bit yet I don’t see it I must be blind or something (unless it’s the original bite that is now covered by the tattoo)
Watching this wayyyy late but I just wanted to say I love that you cared for Abby and didn't hate her, I feel like that was the appropriate response to the game and the story. Thanks for posting this, really enjoyed watching
I really wanted everyone who played the game to reach the same conclusion as you. many only saw ellie's side and all the hate at abby was unnecessary. I'm happy to have met you through the game, you are amazing and I love the channel now. I will continue watching the videos, kisses from Brazil 💙💙💙
Some people hate abby, but I see a lot of people actually hating Ellie, which is just as bad if not worse considering we played a whole game and a half with her.
@@Dan-xl8jv it's nowhere near equal mate. Even when the leaks came out, before the game released the hate for Abby began so you're just wrong on that one. And it isn't even just because of the story, it's the bigots who don't like Abby's appearance etc so there are countless toxic groups that hate her for no reason. Those not understanding Ellie's motivations at best just dislike her actions, not outright hatred to the pointy of death threats to the Voice actress. It's not equal and pretending otherwise doesn't help either because it's blatantly obvious it's not
Part 1 was about Ellie's guilt. Being immune and seeing everyone die around her is hard to take, I think. Part 2 was about anger and revenge and the futility of those feelings, that Joel actually wanted to teach her something better. Hopefully part 3 will be about redemption. That Ellie can finally find peace and overcome her PTSD
I'm so blown away by Cascina's reflections at the end of this, like damn she really understood these characters. She's so intelligent, my god. Yes Cas, you should indeed be a peer mediator lmao
Honestly, I didn't really feel sorry for her until then. I was over them fighting after the theater and seeing the life her and dina had at the farm. I hated that Ellie left. But I didn't actually feel sorry for Abby until I saw her like that
"Neil.. Neil, what have you done?" Whether you appreciated this game for the emotional rollercoaster that it was or whether you hated it, I feel like this right here resonated with everyone lmao.
Fun little fact: The two Rattlers that Ellie kills after hanging upside down are played by Travis Willingham (Laura Bailey's husband) and the rapper Logic.
@@Sigurjon96 Yes absolutely - although the height difference I think fits. My theory on Logics cameo was his friendship with Laura, Travis and the rest of the Critical Role cast (which include among others Ashley Johnson and Matt Mercer). Plus his outspoken love for the first game.
I binged watched your TLOU videos and I feel depressed that it's all over. This game is incredible, your playing skills were amazing and you were so fun to watch. Thank you for giving us this.
Joel basically took away the importance of Ellies life, and she’s left with intense survivors guilt. She feels as though every death due to the cordyceps is her own fault. Discovering the truth shifter her view of the world, which causes Ellie to stop being that hopeful girl from the previous game as she gradually becomes bitter at the fact that her life was “all for nothing.” This game is really about Ellie learning to deal with the consequences of Joels actions and learning to find purpose and meaning in her life again. At the end Ellie learns that Joel “would do it all over again” because he is willing to sacrifice their relationship if it means giving Ellie the chance to know that her life is more valuable than her immunity. After his death, Ellie is disappointed and enraged with herself for not forgiving Joel sooner and fixates this anger on Abby, as she feels forever in debt with Joel. That, is powerful.
The problem is, our real world pandemic has been very kind to Joel's actions. Playing TLOU now, you realise even more than before that there would be absolutely no chance for a vaccine. A decimated world is in no shape to produce a vaccine and Ellie's death would be totally pointless.
I am continuously amazed at the level of detail in every single aspect of this game. Pay attention to when Joel speaks about his coffee. At the point he says “It’s not bad”, hear the very slight change in the reverb and low pass as he says those words into his mug. So subtle, yet so natural, that you almost don’t notice it because your brain expects it. Absolutely amazing.
@@olbabybeard This is also more than possible. Great observation 😊👍 The position of the mic will also make a difference. Especially since the position of the in game camera isn’t relevant in the mo cap. I would imagine they have mics in loads of places, so it’s possible they have a combination of different sounding recordings, and in post, may have ‘found’ the perfect sounding recording for the camera angle they choose to use.
@@timmyboy99 they record the lines separately for editing and things but they wear mics and headsets while they record the cutscenes in motion. That's how the voices match the movements. It's like they film a movie then put a video game skin on it.
Everyone sympathizes for Abby but despite the perfect effort of writers to introduce a new character, this character cannot compete with the bonding gamers had with Joel and Ellie... Gamers that had played Part 1 are highly related, it is too much of a story, you know them, you feel them. Abby still remains a stranger, it needs so much more to build inside us. I believe that people who support Abby over Ellie have not played Part 1. But, in any case, it is not a matter who likes who and who is wrong or right... The story presents the tragic human actions and reactions inside a violent new world for 2 characters and that's all. Good ending for Abby so far and bad ending for Ellie...
It kills me even now knowing the last cutscene of them talking, the next day Joel died. Right as they were gonna rebuild their relationship. Such a masterpiece
just moments before ellie's about to kill abby, she revisits that memory of joel in his backyard strumming the guitar: of a kinder, more loving man, at peace. right before abby was about to kill dina even after ellie tells her that dina's pregnant, it's lev's voice that snaps her out of her blind rage. ellie only lets abby go after that flashback of joel, and abby showed absolutely no hesitation in her intent to kill dina before lev interrupts her. both times, it's the images of the people that they love the most that bring ellie and abby out of a place of deep sorrow and anger and stop them from committing the most heinous acts.
It's more about the forgiveness she had to learn for Joel. He had lied to her and she felt betrayed by Joel. Yes he had been a great father figure but she couldn't get over what he had done. That flashback is about knowing she should have forgiven him sooner and rekindled their relationship. That allowed her to forgive Abby.
The ugliest thing is that Ellie as a child said that her greatest fear was to be alone, and in the end she was alone.

it's so isolated, especially since she said she was afraid of being alone as a kid

Ellie on the other hand wasnt.

Most people saw this and thought this story was about revenge and forgiveness but I mostly just saw it as like a manifestation of people not being able to cope with their grief. First Joel with Sarah, then Abby with her dad, then Ellie about Joel.
Literally
It can be about more than just one thing. There's lots that one can take away from the overall story, the individual stories of the characters as well as their interconnected relationships and fates.
yes thats what grief is …
both things can be true
Well it was about grief but it was also about revenge at the end Ellie coming to the conclusion and realization that revenge was not worth her becoming a stone killer and lost everything she care for.

The last scene with Joel was proof that Ellie wasn't really angry at Abby for killing Joel, but she was more angry at herself for not forgiving Joel for all those years- with Abby taking him away right when she finally decides to repair her relationship with Joel.
Also, it's implied that Ellie and Dina are still together (wristband on her wrist after retuning) and moves back to Jackson, staying with Jesse's mother/family (it was in a note saying they're always welcome), with her hopefully getting the help she needs now that she has a proper community of support around her.
this^^^
Yeah but if they are back together why did they not go back to the farm? That's what Dina wanted
The bit about Ellie and Dina is a stretch as its open for interpretation but i agree with your assessment about Ellie's feelings about Joel and Abby.
Ironic Ellie says if she died her life would have mattered without realizing to Joel, Ellie's life mattered so much that he deemed it more important than the entire human race.
I think it also is because Joel could not go through the loss of another person he really cared about

They both killed people for eachother
Yeah hundreds of them
I also think it's nice how you can tell she's accepted what he did the day after in the jackson section.

But then I realized I had to fight Abby and eventually kill her.

facts
I think she did forgive him...just not in person
She forgived him in not killing abby
I like to think that her saying I'd like to try is pretty much the same as actual forgiveness.
I think it was enough though. Definitely for Joel.
Ironically, if Ellie wasn't looking for Abby,
She wouldn't have lost Dina or JJ.
She would not have lost her fingers.
And surely Abby would have died.
"Maybe it was meant to be".
how Marlene ever said.
Sometimes is better let somethings behind and move on
I dont think is a final sad at all. I read one interesting theory about the final:
At the end Ellie returns to the farm, it should be noted that she has Dina's bracelet, (when she did not have it when she left the farm, nor when she was in Santa Barbara) and that she does not have any of the weapons in her backpack, apart from that she is not wearing the same clothes as in Santa Barbara which implies that Ellie probably went to Jackson before going to the farm, to apologize to Dina, who is at the house of Robyn, Jesse's mother, since she leaves him a letter on the farm that says they and JJ will always have a home in Jackson.

Why would Abby take the time to ask the killer of everyone she ever knew what his motives were? Someone breaks in and kills your entire family , all of your friends , everyone you have in the world and you're going to ask them why?
@@noellalexander9527 I’ve seen this question many times before. But many people wouldn’t care about a serial killer. Joel had friends and family. Hell he even saved Abby. If I was Abby I would be super confused and would definitely interrogate.

Your head cannon. If she did ( we she/and we do not) not a reason to question him about killing everyone she had.

On the other hand, Abby's boat is facing outwards towards the sea, indicating that she has already moved on and is possibly ready to sail in other waters. I found this detail incredible.

hope it also means she feels guilt for what she did to Joel.
the fact that in her hunt for abby, she not only lost jesse, tommy, dina, and jj, but she also lost her fingers and therefore her ability to properly play the guitar: her last connection to joel
she could learn how to play left handed. it will suck but it will work
@@lol4409 but she doesn't need to anymore. by not killing abby when she could, she finally understood that joel's decision was not as selfish as she had thought before. not an act of "i know better than you" but an act of faith in humanity. he understood, instinctively, that ellie's immunity was more valuable to humanity with her being alive. that quality is more important than quantity, if you will. she understood that in this mmoment, because she felt that if she killed abby, all hope for humanity would be lost. that instead of forgiving joel she could forgive abby. and by doing that, she could finally let go of her need to cling to joel via the guitar and go forth on her own path.
Sometimes giving up the connections are neccessary to heal. Holding on is natural but ultimately what her entire problem was about. She needed to say goodbye.

I'm the exact same way I know what your talking about
Games have reached a point where the depth of character and plot development, along with quality of graphics, means they are comparable in terms of our emotional investment in them, as well crafted films or TV series.

And she decided to walk from Jackson to the farm and back :-)
I believe Ellie helped Dina move everything out of the house after apologising, because if you look at where the dust has settled, there are clear spots where some of the household items used to be. It takes between 2 days and 2 weeks for dust to start accumulating in an area.

This is just my opinion, but for me - At the end Ellie was suffering with PTSD, obviously
- not sleeping, not eating, the flashbacks, the going off by herself into the woods, and the feeling she HAD to go after abby - is realistic to me. it's difficult to describe anyone without it, but PTSD can often feel like you are physically trapped with no way out of your own reality.
A soldier following orders would say "I can't let you leave" or someone feeling like they had no choice in the matter, someone trapped -
like ellie.
Naughty dog put a lot of thought and psychology into this game which is why I love it so much. this game means so much to me and has so much more meaning to it than most think it does
what a poem
I agree with you!
Wow I never thought about the “I can’t let you leave” thing that’s eye opening

Honestly, I didn't really feel sorry for her until then. I was over them fighting after the theater and seeing the life her and dina had at the farm. I hated that Ellie left. But I didn't actually feel sorry for Abby until I saw her like that
Now: Cascina plays all Life Is Strange games

+1
YES
She'll love it
Yesss
Yaaas finally someone who didn't want Abby dead in the end.
"Neil.. Neil, what have you done?" Whether you appreciated this game for the emotional rollercoaster that it was or whether you hated it, I feel like this right here resonated with everyone lmao.
Cascina: Ohh new group, to explore in part 3?
Ellie: Naaah I just killed them all now
Fun little fact: The two Rattlers that Ellie kills after hanging upside down are played by Travis Willingham (Laura Bailey's husband) and the rapper Logic.
logic the goat fr
That’s some serious domestic abuse on the motion capture set that day...
That’s actually cool as hell 😆

I binged watched your TLOU videos and I feel depressed that it's all over. This game is incredible, your playing skills were amazing and you were so fun to watch. Thank you for giving us this.
Great video, Cascina! It was so cool to watch your reactions throughout this series and to hear your takeaways from it!
I didn't expect to see Abby's face model in the comments. That's pretty cool. lol
Oh, hello there!
This. Is. perfect
you explained it perfectly holy crap
Facts. I hope they let Abby out of Part III.
Barsss
The actors do the motions while they record the voices. They use props too he was probably holding a mug.
@@olbabybeard This is also more than possible. Great observation 😊👍
The position of the mic will also make a difference. Especially since the position of the in game camera isn’t relevant in the mo cap.
I would imagine they have mics in loads of places, so it’s possible they have a combination of different sounding recordings, and in post, may have ‘found’ the perfect sounding recording for the camera angle they choose to use.
@@RussDnB you do know they voice act and mocap separately. The mocop isn't them filming and acting like a movie with a boom mic
@@timmyboy99 they record the lines separately for editing and things but they wear mics and headsets while they record the cutscenes in motion. That's how the voices match the movements. It's like they film a movie then put a video game skin on it.

God, it's refreshing to see someone sympathize with Abby for once

They wanted to watch a movie together :(
They would have a life full of moments similar to the museum day :/
That part broke my heart because he died nearly 5-7 hours after that conversation 😭😭
@@wxxdflakes more like 20-24 hours they had that conversation at night, Joel and Tommy got to Abby’s safe house the next night
Its not a masterpiece the way he died was stupid
Cascina has just THE BEST reactions I've seeing with this game. Love it. Felt represented
just moments before ellie's about to kill abby, she revisits that memory of joel in his backyard strumming the guitar: of a kinder, more loving man, at peace. right before abby was about to kill dina even after ellie tells her that dina's pregnant, it's lev's voice that snaps her out of her blind rage. ellie only lets abby go after that flashback of joel, and abby showed absolutely no hesitation in her intent to kill dina before lev interrupts her. both times, it's the images of the people that they love the most that bring ellie and abby out of a place of deep sorrow and anger and stop them from committing the most heinous acts.
That 'I would do it all over again' line gets me every time. Tears all around.
get y’all’s tissues and snacks, it’s gonna be a wild ride
its really been a journey damn
