3 years have passed since you have done this video and it's still as relevant as at the first day you did it 🏆I saw your work at Ravelry, I didn't know you have a YT channel too 🥳 Wonderfully precise and good quality knitting. instant follow!
Tudor Roses is probably my favourite collection of knitting patterns ever and the book is visually stunning. I also love and have knit several designs from Alice Starmore’s “Stillwater” and “In the Hebrides” both sadly out of print now. If you can find them from a private seller they would be lovely additions to your collection. Love your podcast and your making projects both knitting and sewing 😊
Thanks for a great review! This book has been on my list for ages but you've convinced me I needed it like, yesterday! 😄 Seriously, Constance, you inspire me on so many levels. Your knitting is incredible. 💓💓💓
Voolenvine 😄😆 Kristin, thank you so much! I’m so happy you enjoyed the review. I’ve been such a fan of yours for years, so your kind words mean so much to me. Much love. ❤️
Oh Wow! That book is stunning. I love history and I love knitting. The tudors are so intriguing to me. This book is definitely on my wish list now. I think I would style those items with just plain shirts and skirts, nothing crazy just let the knit pattern speak for itself.
A lovely 'flip through the book'. Really whetted my appetite to knit one of these gorgeous patterns. I too love learning bout the historical connections to items. Super.
Your garments are lovely. I made the Anne of Cleves with a crew neck modification. I visited Hampton Court Palace because of this book. I love the history too.
You've inspired me to get this book. I have Starmore's books Book of Fair Isle Knitting and Fisherman's Sweaters and love them. I had checked the fair isle book out from the library so many times while it was out of print and snatched it up asap when the reprint came out! Your knits are beautiful and inspiring!
I love how you review this book and explain learning some new techniques for the patterns. Very encouraging! Everyone should try a new technique, especially for a gorgeous design.
The sweaters in the book are beautiful and inspirational. Thank you for sharing them with us. I crochet way more than I knit so I will probably never make one of these sweaters but it certainly inspires me to look for crochet sweater patterns that will challenge me.
I recently found your podcasts and I’m enjoying catching up. I love your choices and styling! I wish I could wear these cropped, fitted sweaters, but my time has passed. I will enjoy through you. ❤️
Thanks so much for sharing the numerous beautiful garments in this book. I love that you have both the hard cover and paperback versions of it, and the reasons why.
Great review! Your enthusiasm for these designs is contagious! I am currently reading Wolf Hall so this is perfect timing. I have often commented that I so appreciate how you talk about wearability with your projects and I definitely have enjoyed seeing you wear the pieces from Tudor Roses that you've made. I have a hard time figuring out styling with such intricate designs. So, thanks again! Can't wait to see the finished Mary Queen of Scots. -Erika
Thank you so much. I’m going to check out that novel. Thank you so much for mentioning it. I’m looking forward to sharing the Mary Queen of Scots as I’m hoping to complete it before Fall.
Enjoyed your review of Tudor Roses. While you were flipping I saw a couple of exquisite patterns a great addition to a knitting library. I love to challenge myself and learn different techniques. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for sharing your review. I especially appreciated the flip through - it's such a gorgeous book! I have loved the garments that you have made so far, and I can't wait to see what you finish next.
Just came to your channel after voolenvine mentioned you and your book review. Yeah I am obsessed with everything Tudor and this majes me super excited. Thank you for this awesome book review and you have a new subscriber. Also love that best your wearing too!
Like you, I'm attracted to more cropped sweaters (I'm 5'2"), so I want to try making a shorter version of the Margaret Tudor. And I wonder if there's a way to take out some pattern repeats and make the Katherine Howard shorter, too... I noticed someone else mentioned Wolf Hall-I just finished the second book in that trilogy, Bring Up the Bodies, which focuses on Anne Boleyn and Jane Seymour. They're amazing novels, if you haven't read them!
Thanks for the book recommendations! I haven’t read them yet, but I’m always on the hunt for a good series. I think a shorter Margaret Tudor would be gorgeous. I do wonder how to work it out? 🤔 The Katherine Howard will be the longest cardigan I’ve ever made. I want to wear it with slimline pants and shorter skirts/dresses. But, I do agree that fewer repeats will work out to shorten it.
I came here to see if anyone has tried and succeeded at making any of these shorter (I’m 5’), or have any tips for which patterns might be easiest to adjust? Thanks for the review, this book is lovely!
Very informative review- I have this one on my wish list. I appreciated your comments on the multiple copies because I was thinking the same thing about soft versus hard cover. Can’t wait to see more of your Mary Queen of Scots- colorway is spectacular!
You inspired me to buy this book! I've bought the yarn for the Elizabeth Woodville cardigan I'm just finishing up my current knit then I'll be casting on 😁
When I first bought the book, having seen your Jane Seymour, I thought I would just be looking at the pictures, but now I'm determined to make one of them. I love the Jane Seymour, but I'm the wrong shape for it. The Catherine Parr will suit me better and it will work with my wardrobe. I should order the kit so that I can start knitting it in the autumn. Thank you for introducing me to these lovely garments.
Wow, the Mary Queen of Scots is coming out fantastic but, that’s to be expected, you did such a wonderful job with the other pieces and they look great on you. I have at least one older Alice Starmore Aran Knitting, oh and the one for Men’s Sweaters. (both amazing books) You do really great work, thank you. 🕊❤️👍🏻
Such an amazing book! I have the Mary Queen of Scots cardigan on my needles at the moment. I think my history professor from university days would be astonished at my knowledge of this period now,the worst essay I ever wrote was on the wars of the roses!!
Came over from you Instagram (new follower) and glad to see you’re on YT as well! This book is gorgeous but so intimidating! I don’t think I have the mental capacity to work up any of these 😅. Are you on Ravelry too?
Thanks Constance! I really enjoyed that review! I bought the book after watching the epsiode in which you showed the Jane Seymour! I'm trying to decide which design to do! But I am only 4' 11 " and some of the deisgns look like you need to be quite tall and slim not short and buxom like me!! Any recommendations? 'm an intermediate knitter....
You're welcome. You could possibly remove some the pattern repeats and make some bust adjustments. I suggest you follow Books and Cables (on Instagram and UA-cam) because she has made some amazing modifications to the Henry VIII pullover.
I have two copies of “Fisherman’s Knits” , a hard copy and a paperback, for the same reasons you said. I actually don’t have Tudor Roses, but I’m going to start looking for a copy- thanks for the wonderful review!

Thank you so much
Your garments are lovely. I made the Anne of Cleves with a crew neck modification. I visited Hampton Court Palace because of this book. I love the history too.
Wow. I dream of visiting those places one day. Sadly, we had to cancel out June trip to England and Scotland due to the pandemic.

Wow! The sweater you made is stunning!
Thank you so beautiful knits. 😍
Thank you, and Fruity Knitting, for introducing me to these garments. I have the book and hope to realize the dream of creating something from it!
You’re welcome! I felt the same way when I finally got the book. 😊

Thanks for the review, this book is lovely!
I love it too and have yarn to make Elizabeth I to start. I am a slow knitter, but here's hoping. Love your podcast.
I love the Elizabeth I design so much. I'm looking forward to casting it on one day. Thank you so much!

Oh, how exciting! That is such a beautiful pattern.
I remember the lovely skirt you sewed to go with your Jane Seymour. I also pore over this book as it is so gorgeous.
Thank you so much. ❤️😊

I have two copies of “Fisherman’s Knits” , a hard copy and a paperback, for the same reasons you said. I actually don’t have Tudor Roses, but I’m going to start looking for a copy- thanks for the wonderful review!
Oops, “Fisherman’s Sweaters”
