At the time of Prophet Mohammad(S.A.W.) in order to make the sound of Azan reach far they used to climb on a high place in fact Bilal (R.A.) climbed on the Kaaba and said Azan. So using a microphone is just a medium to enable the sound reach far. Yes it will be considered innovation if some one assumes that giving a speech using the microphone is a part of Islam and Allah will reward him/her for it. May Allah guide us all and keep us away from all innovations. Ameen. Allah Hafiz.

@quest598 rule of thumb; everything in 'dunya' (the affairs of this world) is halal until proven otherwise, however, everything in 'deen' (religion) is haraam until proven otherwise. you will notice that the microphone has nothing to with 'deen' w reference to worship.
