      I'm on day 2 with the Shark IQ. So far it's going pretty well. It empties itself when it's full and goes back out to keep vacuuming. It was able to clean for over an hour and only dropped to about 50% battery. I'm going to give it a really hard test for about 3 weeks (if it works that long), and then decide if I want to send it back. I have my eye on the Roborock S5 Max as an alternative. I almost hope the Shark disappointed me. :)

    I have the shark IQ which I bought at Kohls with coupons for $329.61. It is as good as my Roomba 980. It doesn't get hair tangled around the rollers like the 980 and it was far cheaper. You have to open it up sometimes to get some of the debris out that didn't get sucked out into the bin but all things considered I think it is the best for the money. The S9+ is the absolute best if you have $1400 to blow.

    • @molyoxide164

      Travis Stratton the s9 isn’t as good as the i7 believe it or not. The s9’s brush sucks in carpet.

      Michael Treppelin hell no it’s not, he isn’t doing this on purpose, the shark seriously needs to be paid attention by their makers, I got the $300 one, without the self cleaning bin, and that one is just as bad, missed spots, it’s map is super not accurate, looks completely different, and the funny thing is, on the clean history, it shows on the map what it has cleaned and what it had missed, and it clearly knows what it has missed, big chunks of my wide open room, and it determines it is done and goes back to charge without going back to clean what it had missed, it moves completely different than any other robot including dumb ones, to where when it bumps into something, instead of backing up a small bit so that it can turn around, it bumps, and turns at the same time scratching the hell out of its IR window in the bumper, and also scratching my walls, not too mention the hard hits it has, leading me to think it does not use the ir sensors in front of it at all, when it is supposed to use both the IR sensors and bumper triggers to know it has hit an obstacle, so that it gently bumps, but no it just hits the gas hits it as hard as it can, and turns around scratching itself and the obstacle, it’s just poorly programmed, also, I was lucky I got a map shown on the first 2 runs, but map wasn’t complete until I ran it 5 times, and map hasn’t even improved after 100% percent completion, software that runs it really is poor, so no it’s not just the self emptying bin model that is poor, but the regular model as well, I have tested 2 dumb robots, one cleans in a random pattern, it did better, the other dumb cleans in straight lines using software without smart Navi with ladar or cameras, and did better than this shark, and my moms Roomba i7 blows this thing so far away that it’s not even funny. Some of the tests are a bit unfair, but the whole point is, that all other robots are capable even in a unfair setting and the shark can’t, are most people gonna have as big of a mess? No, not really, but if they do they can trust their $500+ investment to do the job and they can take it unlike the shark. And also to charge as much as they do for the basic shark IQ model, I can get 2 dumb roombas that can do the job without being as bad, so ya the negative reviews to me need to be there so that people don’t get this thing that ain’t worth their money

    I just scored a used RV1005AE in a local yard sale group. Shark tech support chat had to do something on their end before it would connect with my account - I'm guessing a security thing since it had been setup before. They were fast and helpful tho. It's been working great since, and made a decent map after the first complete run!
    It did clog up with the dryer sheets that have apparently been collecting up underneath my bed (I fold my laundry on the bed) in the first run, but a regular vac would have clogged too. I'm super happy with mine. :)

    I’ve seen a lot of negatives about the Shark on UA-cam, all I can say is mine has worked perfectly and does a great cleaning job. It DID take 30 trips to map, and I have yet to be able to register the damm thing via the app, but other then that is is flawless. I have a VERY small condo, with 90% hardwood, maybe that’s the key, but that thing is doing great for me and at least then half the others I am extremely satisfied. Now, do a video on robot mops, I’m so excited about my vacuum I want to get one of those!

    People should know that there are 2 OPTIONS on that Shark IQ app that will help with a very dirty house. Option #1 is "Evacuate and Resume" which will empty the dust bin more often in homes with high debris. The option#2 is the cleaning mode which has ECO, NORMAL and MAX that you want to make sure it is in MAX mode for high debris houses.

    • @jeffmc9154
      @jeffmc9154 4 роки тому +3

      Yes, I can tell by the audio that this tester did not put the unit into MAX cleaning mode. MAX cleaning mode causes the airflow (vacuum) motor to spool up to it's highest speed, and in that mode it will move 28 cubic feet of air per minute, which is one of the highest airflows in the industry. If you simply plug the unit in, turn it on, and poke the CLEAN button, it will leave it's charging base, and begin cleaning, but it will not go into the MAX mode. There is no way to get it into that mode without communicating to it with the app. If you READ the manual, it tells you only that to "get the most out of your Shark IQ Robot", you need to use the phone app (the manual's pages are not numbered, but this is on the 12th page of the manual). The cleaning mode levels are not documented in the manual, or even mentioned on the box it comes in, so I can see how this feature can go unknown, and unused in the test above. That's too bad, because the Shark did have a bad showing in this test while running in the lower power mode, and even though the Dyson still would have beaten the Shark either way, the Sharks' performance would have been respectable. I have Dyson products (not the Dyson 360 Heurist), and I am a big fan of Dyson products, but considering what I paid for the Shark, and it's low profile, I am also very happy with the performance of my Shark on my hardwood (with and without throw carpets on top), and tile floors. We have a 120 pound German Shepard, a Pit Bull, and a Dachshund shedding indoors all day in hot Las Vegas, Nevada. I hope this helps prevent some Sharks from being needlessly returned for poor performance. SharkNinja Operating LLC really needs to put more effort into their printed manuals.

    22:18 OK, I think we can conclude that the Dyson doesn't have a bin full sensor either, because it is definitely NOT supposed to get that full (though I suppose it's a testament to the design that it kept trucking anyways). Technically the same shortcoming as the Shark, but since it isn't trying to automate its bin care like the Shark (and its dock) are, I don't care as much.

    Just returned my Shark LOW IQ Vacuum. It kept losing the wi-fi signal, got lost in closets, never completed the mapping of our house after more than 30 cleanings. When it did clean, it would do a pretty good job. Called Shark Customer Service line for help and when describing the problem found them to be argumentative. Their customer support is what got me to just return my vacuum cleaner. I could put up with some cliches that a software upgrade might have fixed but I won't put up with attitude from some $8.00 and hour desk jockey.... Hello Roomba....

    Don't worry about the Thumbs Down. I been giving you one on all your videos 🤭👎🤖. Just messing with you giving you a LIKE, shows some robots are meant for smaller jobs, but if Shark can perfect the Evacuate and Resume by allowing the user to select how often the Shark can return to it charger, maybe the robot can handle the large mess. As for the Dyson Heurist thought it had a dirt bin full detection. It does have a indicator line on the Dust Bin, 🤔😏. Anyways great job on the crazy amount of video up loads and SUBS 🤭

    I just got a shark for my home and haven't had any of the issues seen here. It is returning to the base before becoming full and is doing a fantastic job of keeping up with dog hair. I think the test here is a valid torture test for the extremes but, I run mine every day and can't find a fault. I think you are right that it is for smaller homes in environments where it can be run daily.

    WHAT!? There're still people complaining that this test is unrealistic!? Well how about this then! The other day I accidentally knocked over a 4lb bag of sugar and a good portion of it fell off the table and went shooting across the floor in all directions. I scooped up maybe 80~90% of it with my hands, but there were still sugar granules ALL OVER the floor. So, of course, I put my trusty ol' Roomba on the job, and pretty soon it was all collected neatly in one bin. If some of you don't mind your robovac being unable to handle messes like that then fine, but don't try to pretend that this level of debris is unrealistic.
    Besides, if this kind of task wasn't realistic, then why is there even an "Evacuate and Resume" option on the Shark? Either it's going to pick up more than a bin's worth of crud, in which case it REALLY should have a sensor to tell it when it's full, or it ISN'T supposed to pick up that much, in which case it should never have to stop and empty itself in the middle of a job.

      Totally agree.
      High-end robots are supposed to be designed to suck up dirt, not only in quantity but also in difficulty. For little dirt, or a very small house, a dry mop or a broom is enough, you will not invest in a robot that promises and does not fulfill.

    I just got it and tried to start mapping but after 10 minutes it kept getting clogged with hair (2 cats) probably because we did not pre-vacuum the house. So I decided to map the house without vacuuming by removing the rotator brush. It does not detect it missing and runs normally, I keep the setting on ECO and let it go map the house it came back on its own to empty out and it made it back to the base (which is in another room) without hitting anything and docked, then returned back to where it left off. Boy! was that impressive.and at the hour it returned to charge flawlessly. but did not finish a map even mapping rooms multiple times Still impressive for the first time. I'll let you know when it does so I can start vacuuming!

    No offense, but your tests are really out of line with regards to the intended purpose of these robot vacuums and their realistic capabilities. Why don’t you take them all to a dirt road and test them? Silly?
    These vacuums are intended to do routine maintenance, not big mess cleanup, that’s what a dust pan and mop is for.

    • @hadrast

      This particular test is definitely within realistic levels. Maybe not day-to-day levels, but it's definitely a realistic mess, and it's definitely well within the realistic capabilities of robovacs in general (which is why all the vacs other than the Shark passed tests at least this strenuous). I don't know about you, but if I'm going to pay hundreds for a robot vacuum I will expect it to handle at least this level of mess without throwing errors.
      I know you were being sarcastic with your question, but here's a REAL unrealistic mess test for you that'll put some perspective on robovac capabilities: ua-cam.com/video/BKo3SBfjiX4/v-deo.html

    Hi, thanks for the video.
    That company is going to affect their business name big time, I use to be a warehouse manager in a computer scanner Taiwanese company here in California back in 1999 and that's when Taiwan had a lot of defects on their products they did a pretty good job on the sales but later on around 6 months a lot of returns started to fill my warehouse and I had to do something because I was running out of space so I did my report ahead of time, this was a young company and had no experience in that problem so I had a couple of meetings in order to keep as many from coming to my warehouse so we couldn't sent them back to Taiwan the costs were a much more than the cost of the product it was a nightmare for them so this is the same thing with this company they are going to write off all those vacuums and dump em out to the recycling and problems solved but these companies should do a good study before they put a product in the market this mistake is gonna create a lot of contamination with those vacuums, they have to fire the CEO for not doing his job there's no potential in a person who doesn't think about the results of these wasted materials we have to think about mother nature for one moment and save our environment for the future generations and thanks to these videos in a few words are saving our environment.

    • @hadrast
      @hadrast 4 роки тому

      If robovacs can work on hard floors and carpets, they can work on this. That cement floor is a whole lot smoother than a carpet.

    • @JasonStJohn-my1cs
      @JasonStJohn-my1cs 4 роки тому

      They will work on cement but it’s not a good test service. They are designed for a smoother floor cement is going to cause excessive ware on The brushes and since no house floor is as rough as cement it’s not great for testing to see how good it does considering no house has a surface as tough as cement floor. Best to do testing with real life scenarios to get a accurate outcome of how it’s going to do on that service. You dont Buy these to run on a basement floor. That’s all I meant by saying not good for cement.

    • @hadrast
      @hadrast 4 роки тому +1

      @@JasonStJohn-my1cs The roughness will increase wear on the brushes, but until the brushes actually get worn down (which won't happen THAT fast) it won't affect pickup performance. Carpets are a lot tougher on performance than cement floor is, since they can capture all sorts of stuff in their pile and not let go. As far as testing goes, this is a good representation of pickup performance on hard floors.
      As for real world scenarios, I know some houses have stone/brick floors, or fireplaces with brick aprons pretty much flush with the floor, so there are some real cases where the roughness is representative too. Whether or not a Roomba owner would actually want to run their Roomba on those surfaces is up to the individual, though.

      he isn’t hating on this robot on purpose, the shark seriously needs to be paid attention by their makers, I got the $300 one, without the self cleaning bin, and that one is just as bad, missed spots, it’s map is super not accurate, looks completely different, and the funny thing is, on the clean history, it shows on the map what it has cleaned and what it had missed, and it clearly knows what it has missed, big chunks of my wide open room, and it determines it is done and goes back to charge without going back to clean what it had missed, it moves completely different than any other robot including dumb ones, to where when it bumps into something, instead of backing up a small bit so that it can turn around, it bumps, and turns at the same time scratching the hell out of its IR window in the bumper, and also scratching my walls, not too mention the hard hits it has, leading me to think it does not use the ir sensors in front of it at all, when it is supposed to use both the IR sensors and bumper triggers to know it has hit an obstacle, so that it gently bumps, but no it just hits the gas hits it as hard as it can, and turns around scratching itself and the obstacle, it’s just poorly programmed, also, I was lucky I got a map shown on the first 2 runs, but map wasn’t complete until I ran it 5 times, and map hasn’t even improved after 100% percent completion, software that runs it really is poor, so no it’s not just the self emptying bin model that is poor, but the regular model as well, I have tested 2 dumb robots, one cleans in a random pattern, it did better, the other dumb cleans in straight lines using software without smart Navi with ladar or cameras, and did better than this shark, and my moms Roomba i7 blows this thing so far away that it’s not even funny. Some of the tests are a bit unfair, but the whole point is, that all other robots are capable even in a unfair setting and the shark can’t, are most people gonna have as big of a mess? No, not really, but if they do they can trust their $500+ investment to do the job and they can take it unlike the shark. And also to charge as much as they do for the basic shark IQ model, I can get 2 dumb roombas that can do the job without being as bad, so ya the negative reviews to me need to be there so that people don’t get this thing that ain’t worth their money. There are many things that this robot should have had, specially for the price, where other robots have, like I said earlier even dumb robots I have tested beat this thing, every other one will, so y’all people that think he is unfair, go buy these robots and keep giving your money to companies that don’t care about the product, and they will make as much money like Apple and have no incentive to fix the product, and do better, because they will get yalls cash anyways so they can make a pile of dog shit, give it to you and take their money 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Shark is slow and confused. Dyson is a stupid design and too tall to go under couches.
    You don't have to spend a fortune on a Roomba to get a great robot vacuum.
