The Executive Committee called a General Congress of Bukovina for 15/28 November 1918, where 74 Romanians, 13 Ruthenians, 7 Germans, and 6 Poles were elected (this is the linguistic composition, and Jews were not recorded as a separate group). A popular enthusiasm sprang throughout the region, and a large number of people gathered in the city to wait for the resolution of the Congress.

I have ancestors from Bukowina which weren't Romanians... but I can't agree with you... they came from other lands... the Dacians were there before... it's the same thing with Transilvania...

Indeed Bukovina was always Romanian territory, even the Jewish population who stood there knows it!Most of them studied, worked&had acces to Universities there!
but it has been always a territory disputed with URSS&other Slavic countries.
Romanians&Bukovineans&Maramures citizens, were NEVER COLONIZERS but always fighting to get rid of colonists&keep their territories.
Always paying huge sums to have the possibility to use their language&study&pray in their language!
    Always paying, NEVER payed!

Some of these pictures are really great. I loved the one of the wedding musicians, as it reminded me of trekking around my village on a snowy cold January day for a similar wedding. The musicians spent hours outdoors and I felt so sorry for them. I do have to point out though that Kamanets-Podilskiy is not in Bukovyna/Bucovina, but I know why you inscluded it...it is a fantastic sight!

On a completely unrelated note, the song's main melody strongly resembles the head from the Miles Davis jazz song Tempus Fugit. Who'd have thought it...

Bukovina and neighboring regions were the nucleus of the Moldavian Principality, with the city of Suceava as its capital from 1388 (after Baia and Siret). The name of Moldavia (Moldova) is derived from a river (Moldova River) flowing in Bukovina.

    hello everybody,
i put this video in you tube, i never wanted to hurt someone feelings, it was never meant to be a political statement, i just like this music, i think ukrainians and romanians share many melodies and traditions, no matter if they of romanian or ukrainian origin, we have nearly the same taste of music and that is beautiful, don't look for differents. romanians und ukrainians hat never really problems with eachother. so just enjoy the music :D

Actually Bucovina`s history starts in 1774 when it was taken away from Moldavia by the Habsburgic empire. Before that it was a part of a larger Moldavian teritory called upper country. Romanians never conquered other peoples teritoryes just defened their own people. You have no proof that before 1774 there was more ukrainians in those lands.

During 19401950, major demographic changes occurred in northern Bukovina. These demographic shifts are explained by several separate but concurrent phenomena:
    1. fleeing of a part of the population to Romania (mainly, but not exclusively, ethnic Romanians)
    2. repatriation of Germans, Hungarians and Poles
    3. systematic repression, mass deportation and exterminations by the Soviet regime (again mainly, although not exclusively, directed against Romanians)

According to the 1775 Austrian census, the province had the total population of 86,000, made up mostly of Romanians (Moldovans), and up to 10,000 Slavs (Polish, Ruthenians and Hutzuls)

he Congress elected the Romanian Bukovinian politician Iancu Flondor as chairman, and voted for the union with the Kingdom of Romania, with the support of the Romanian, German, Jewish, and Polish representatives, and the opposition of the Ukrainian ones. The reasons stated were that, until its takeover by the Habsburg in 1775, Bukovina was the heart of the Principality of Moldavia, where the "gropniţele domneşti" (voivods' burial sites) are located, and (right of self-determination)

According to the 1930 Romanian census, Romanians made up almost 45% of the total population of Bukovina and Ruthenians (Ukrainians) 29.2%. However, in the northern part of the region, which subsequently was ceded to the USSR following the June 1940 Soviet Ultimatum, Romanians made up only 32.6% of the population, while Ukrainians slightly outnumbered Romanians.

We are living in the 21st century on a multicultural planet inhabited by people of different cultures, languages and history. Let's celebrate that instead of hating each other! The northen Bucovina( nowadays part of Ukraine)and Basarabia should have been part of Romania ,but these lands where taken by the USSR by signing the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact on 23rd of August 1939. Since then they have been part of the USSR until its colapse in 1990 when Ukraine and the Replubic of Moldavia declared their independence.

The Land of Bukowina is wonderful... I am sorry that the German community left because of Russians and went to Germany, Brasil or USA... their cemeteries are really desolated. It's the politics to blame for this, not the Ukraineans or the Romanians in general. It's not our fault, nor their fault... The fault is at a higher level... but this cannot be forgotten. The Germans, Ukraineans and Romanians in Bukowina lived in peace for so many years... so it's the Communism's fault!

it's the easiest way, you can hardly find notes for this kind of music because it's traditional music and one melody exists in 100 different way's, everybody play's it at his own style, it's not like mozart, but you know that.
i play accordeon and clarinet, yes i live in germany but i'm originaly from odessa, ukraine

In 1776 Bucovina was populated by 85,33% Romanians 10,66% slavics şi 4% others these are facts. And still the whole bucovina north + south is inhabited by more Romanians than ukranians wich came later see the demographic facts. You ukranians were late invaders in this land.

The influance existed always powerful cultures have strong influences take for example americans. And the rest about poles and slovaks is true but in Bucovina we have clear proofs to state there weren't slavic speaking people but Molavians the majority even though mass movments of population took place.
