Hahaha, I am an Amsterdam local and there is very little Amsterdam in this video.. good to see that you enjoy the Netherlands anyway! Welcome to the Netherlands
I live in Albany, Ny and the Dutch King and Queen are actually visiting us today because of our historical connection to Netherlands. Every we year we also have a Tulip festival in the spring in our largest park around Mother's Day. It was previously called Pinkster fest, also connected to Dutch.
People in rural areas still wear clogs a lot. Even kids and teenagers. I see people wearing them (not that many though) all the time and I live in a large town of about 110,000. They're mostly worn by farmers. They're easy to put on, they protect you from mud, and if a cow steps on your foot you're pretty much safe.
My grandparents visited Amsterdam in the early 1960s and brought me back a tiny pair of wooden shoes. I was two years old and used to wear them. I still have them and they are a treasured memory. I also have a sweet wonderful friend that grew up there. She was about six years old during World War II and rarely talks about that time in her life except that she was sent to live on a farm to keep her safe. Later my friend shared the beautiful memories she has of her country. She loves European chocolate and is picky about which cheese she eats. She later came to the US, married and raised a family and is now in her 80s. A very special lady.
Being Dutch, it amazes me everytime how many tourists go to this area. In a way it's a tourist trap. Yes, the area is still active, but almost none of it is visible in our daily lives. Wooden shoes, wind mills, tulips... It's all just stacked together so people from abroad can 'experience' it during a day trip. If you wanna have a good cheese tour, go to the city of Gouda or Alkmaar or some good street markets around all of the Netherlands. Way better to spend your day looking up actual history in cities like Amsterdam or Rotterdam (rebuild after being completely bombed during World War II). I'm looking forward to the next video about your city trip.
My friends and I will use Amsterdam as a base to explore the Netherlands. It'll be their first time in the Netherlands. Last year during a three day visit staying in Amsterdam I also visited Haarlem and Den Bosch. That was partly for a mega RecordFair. But this time we will also check out Rotterdam for the architecture and I want to see The Hague. But photography is a passion of mine I had considered going to these Windmills. Wouldn't you say these Windmills in Zaanse Schans are great from a photographic point of view and getting really nice photos.?
It looks like you’re having an amazing time, but you look a little tired CHRIS maybe it’s the time zones. I know you stay up late editing. But everything you do is well worth it. for those of us that will probably never make it to the Netherlands. We appreciate it. The tours that you’ve gone on are simply beautiful areas. And the food or I should say desserts look really good. Please tell Amanda hi in Myles. And remember always take pictures such great memories. Thanks again, CHRIS for sharing. Belinda
I love your videos but I can tell you as a local from Amsterdam that that bus trip was completely out of Amsterdam. When you returned you were brought back to Amsterdam Noord (that's over the channel from the train station Amsterdam Centraal). The bus ride took you to the Zaandam area, which is located north of Amsterdam but is an area of its own
Did you know a dutch attraction Designer/Creator works at first in the efteling but now works in disneyland and design also the new frozen world in disneyland
Thank you for joining the best Disney podcast I know. I listened to it immediately this afternoon and loved it! Especially the 'Donalteurs' extra with all your questions about Dutch culture. Send lots of love tho Miles and Amanda and enjoy 'my city '
Lovely video today! Such picturesque scenery! Wanted to mention if Amanda is still staying off camera because she can’t wear makeup from the few glimpses you’ve shown of her she looks gorgeous and has nothing to worry about. Obviously she should do whatever she feels comfortable with, but just wanted to let her know in case she was still feeling self conscious.
The wooden shoes are so funny to me. We are famous for it. But almost no one uses them. Maybe some old farmers. But other then that. It is not something we ever think about :D
hi, can I suggest to visit a Belgian like Bruges (Brugge) . Also neaby Efteling. So different to Ducht cities. The medieval admosphere, the canals... Almost real life Disney. I think you'll get lots of suggestions. tnx
Hi.. Chris…. I can’t wait for this… I’m actually looking forward to your shares each day now.. 😅thanks so much for all you do and love everything about you and your family’s fun and entertainment/comment and suggestions… thanks 😊 😊
I loved her reaction too. The taste is overwhelming the first time. I only drink buttermilk, bc milk tastes like water to me in comparison to buttermilk. So good and healthy.👍👍
Hello Provost P. I'm glad you are having so much fun there with your family and that you take time to talk to us. We have a tulip field here in Oregon that is called the Yellow shoe where you can get wooden shoes. My mom and I use to enjoy going there and walking among the tulips. Hope the rest of your trip continues to go well.
Hi, I saw you yesterday at Europa Park whilst filming for my channel. You looked busy, so I did not say hi. I hope you and your family are enjoying the magic of Europa Park.
I have been to 61 countries and over a hundred world cities. Amsterdam is simply the most fun you can have with your clothes on or off! For my money its the worlds best destination.
The D-Tales podcast with Chris is now available. The interview starts around the 17 minute mark (the first 16+ minutes are all in Dutch). Very interesting with some insight into why Chris does this channel the way he does. Highly recommended!
These windmills might look cute now, but back in the day they were state of the art true production powerhouses comparable with modern day large scale oil refinery complexes.
Hahahahaha I loved watching the shoes being made. So crazy to see the wood chips shooting at the camera hahahaha. Is that the "splash zone" for that experience?
Now, this is great. Loving the sights . And the Dutch shoes windmills. I love this mire than the amusement parks. Seeing the culture just wonderful . Thank you for sharing this..❤
It's crazy how man invented wind and that it's all made from those little mills!! We should really tone in down sometimes though because of the hurricanes and tornadoes and such.

Maybe I missed it but where was the cheese and clog factory please? I’m going to Amsterdam next year and really want to visit a clog factory! Thanks for taking us with you.
I used to work with a ukranian guy who swore by butter milk. "no beer, buttermilk!" he'd say. Tried some one day. Pretty much what Amanda said, i thought it was a cross between plain yogurt and sour milk.
I visited Amsterdam about 12 years ago on a family trip to Europe. We didn’t do any of the stuff that you guys did, though. We were there for about a day and visited the Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank House (We also visited the Coorie ten Boom House in Haarlem as a part of our activities in the Netherlands.) You need to go to Europe for Christmas markets in Germany and Vienna Austria cheese is the best love the videos thanks oh and I like buttermilk go figure.
Hi Provost Fam. Is Blue Cheese as Good as Gouda or is it just too Blue? Amanda, Thank You for planning this Amazing Trip. 👍🏼❤️👍🏼 Everyday has been fun to watch. Chris, Amanda, and Miles you are all Awesome. Keep up the Great Job. Stay Safe and on to the next Adventure.

I heard your story on "states", but I'll do you one better. The European Union can be considered the European equivalent of the United States of America. Each European country can be considered as an equivalent of a US State. Each province (or bundesland or canton or other European versions -not to be confused with Canadian provinces, they are more like states-) can be considered as an equivalent of US county. The Netherlands has 12 provinces (counties). There are 2 Holland provinces (North and South) as you pointed out. Europe is a confusing place with many forms of structures, so sometimes it is hard to match things up between nations.
Hi your video on Efteling came up as a suggestion on UA-cam today after I watched a few walk-throughs of Utrecht yesterday. It was good to see that theme park. I'm from Scotland and two friends and I are going to Amsterdam in November for a week. It will be their first time in the Netherlands but my third. Am I right in thinking with these videos you went to the Netherlands around June? We will also go to these Windmills I think. I do hope Amsterdam and the Netherlands do impress my two friends. I have a soft spot for that country. But one friends favourite place is Rome the others favourite is Berlin. So I feel like Amsterdam has to compete with those for my friends affections.
Cris, we are wanting to start international travel but have no idea how to plan the trip. Is there a travel agency you go through that helps plan the trip with scheduled outings? Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Yes, people who speak English say "Dutch". Probably derived from "Deutch", which means German due to some confusion over it being our neighboring country. "A Dutch person in The Netherlands" in Dutch = "Een Nederlander in Nederland".
one of the best cities on the planet if you are still there I recommend doing a boat tour of the canals and visit the Ann frank house if you have already done this sorry it watched the video yet
I agree with Amanda: Love being able to do my own things vs being tied to a group tour the whole time!
