    David and Julie, great video. This is very impressive David. We love how you thought things through ahead of time and took your locale into account in the construction. I loved the re-useable forms, and how careful you were about long term use of this set-up. Great job!

      This was an interesting project to think through and wanted to document so the video can be helpful to do-it-yourself solar enthusiasts out there. Thanks for your thoughtful comment.

    Thank you for sharing this video, I am planning to put up a solar array very similar to the one you have installed. I really like the simplicity and the strength of this design!

      It would be wonderful to see them on every home possible! I'd like to be able to go off grid when needed! :o]

    What’s your latitude?
    Enjoyed watching your team (me myself and I)
    Put this project together…so no tracking?

    • @DavidGrothsculpture

      No tracking unless I do it manually…which won’t happen 😃 latitude N 124. Thanks

    David - I know your post is 7 years old but I hope you can answer my question. Where did you get the top of pole bracket? It look tremendously strong and I could use some of those.

    • @DavidGrothsculpture
      @DavidGrothsculpture  3 роки тому

      The bracket is from DPW SOLAR (Direct Power and Water). Their website has a page that will do an engineering drawing for your project.

    why did you need inspections in the mountains? are you in California? Do you plan to backfeed the grid?

    • @DavidGrothsculpture
      @DavidGrothsculpture  4 роки тому

      I’m hooked into the grid and a permit is required to have PG&E change the meter type. Otherwise with the old meter any electricity going to the grid would register as electricity being used.

    Great video. Thanks for uploading. A question. What make 'brand name' is the antioxidant cream and where did you get it.

    • @DavidGrothsculpture
      @DavidGrothsculpture  10 років тому

      Hello Douglas,
      The anti-oxidant compound I used is Ox-Gard by GB (Gardner Bender). Also Permatex makes a similar product. These products can be found at hardware stores...generally in the electrical section. David

    what diameter is that pole? 6inch?
    how much do those panels weigh?
    where did you get the foundation information for determining how
    large of a cement footer you need in relation to wind forces and weight
    of the panels?
    Im in the process of building my system now and I have 6 panels
    that are 235watts each weighting 45lb each panel.
    I wanna be able to expand my system down the road and i wanna
    be sure I make my pole and footer size large enough
    to accommodate at least another 6 panels, ie: roughly another 270lbs.
    if you looked online for the building department stuff, what were some
    of the words you used to find that info... My county website and
    offices are not to helpful with giving up the information im looking for...

    • @DavidGrothsculpture

      +Jarred Sawczyszyn
      The pole is 6" SCH40 steel pipe. Each panel weighs 41.9 lbs. DPW SOLAR has on their website a design tool that you can put your information into and it will design the pole mount system with the required specifications...then you can print out the designed system to submit to your building dept. Some building departments may accept the specs and design but others may still require an engineer. Good luck!

      +David Groth heck yea, thanks for the quick reply brother. I'll check that site out.
      great job my friend, what your lady friend said was true for sure, on beautiful foundation you made for your array.
      I'll be sure to share my setup with you

      The bracket is DPW Top of Pole Mount and I ordered it through CivicSolar in San Francisco, CA...at the time they had the best price. On DPW 's website they have a program you can design your pole mount system and print out a high quality drawing with all the specs. Good luck, David
