- Video from day & night 4 of the Chimney Fire in West of Paso Robles, CA near the Running Dear Ranch and Lake Nacimiento Communities. While the morning and early afternoon was relatively quiet, the evening brought extreme fire behavior to Lime Mountain Road (which is the end of Chimney Rock, past the locked gate and towards the lime mine). Despite best efforts, the fire was spotting over 1/4 mile ahead of itself and flames established themsleves on the other side of Lime Mountain Road, into the Gallegos Ranch area. Firefighters had prepared structures in that area earlier in the day and feel fairly confident homes will not be harmed.
Concern grew slightly over fire moving towards the Oak Shores area (North of Lake Nacimiento) - it literally only takes "one spark" and with the fire embers blowing around, the thought of one crossing the narrows was possible. Sheriffs Deputies and Firefighters were on patrol in those neighborhoods on firewatch. Most recent numbers on the fire are 6900 acres, 20% contained.
Several of you have asked how you can contribute to SLOStringer.... thank you so very much! SLOStringer is a one person volunteer operation all funded out of my own pocket. I really do enjoy getting all of you timely, accurate, informative news and pictures, but their are definitely financial costs incurred. Your donation will help me continue to bring all of this to you. If you are interested in contributing, donations can be made via PayPal (you dont have to have an account) at www.tinyurl.com.... Someone also asked about sending a check - that can be done to PO Box 4302, San Luis Obispo, CA 93403-4302. To all of those that have donated - either recently or in the past, a heartfelt thank you!
Hope everyone has a great day today, and THANK YOU FIREFIGHTERS!
That's my Dad at 7:40 , third Sawyer of the Scorpion 1 crew (SQF). He's been with the hand crews since 1989. Now this 2017 Fire Season he'll be turning 52, time flies.
Very cool be proud of him!
If you are one of these firefighters and you are watching this video, let me say thank you!!!
great footage!
so sad. Thanks for the video.
Can you actually fight a fire like this, or is the plan to just watch and try to save structures?
why are we not spraying fucking water??
They are in the middle of the woods...They have to conserve water as much as possible to use in the situations that really call for it.
Hey, hope you can get back in. I lulz at CalFire calling you a looter and denying access and then using one of your photos of the fire on their Twitter feed. Thanks for your work on this!
To be clear, CAL FIRE is most excellent and did not say the things you mentioned.... that was all the doings of the Oak Shores HOA President. The HOA has since about-faced, apologized and allowed me access if I wish. CAL FIRE is very supportive of my operation.
Thanks for the clarification and glad you were able to get back to work getting the message out to those affected by this devastating event and other interested parties
Those poor guys gotta be exhausted
This is at my house me and my family had to leave
10:14 Spot!
boże czego was uczą na tych szkoleniach z pożarów lasów???
More than you know
digging whole with bulldozers doesn't seem to mimize the fire any. since we all know the behavior of wild fires and they are capable of jumping even over ricers and ponds etc a bare strip of ground created by the dozer ain't gonna do much???
It will it removes the fuel while yed burning embers can start spot fires it has to be real hot windy and high flame lengths a lot
you can't stop a wildfire in CA and you can't prevent them, they have been part of the ecosystem in CA for millions of years. The only rational policy is preparation of residential homes which unfortunately hasn't sunk in with many residents as they still build their homes out of wood...derp. Nor has the government figured it out as they are content with spending more money on fire prevention and abatement instead of preparation which only creates bigger fires when they do occur.... all the while blaming it on globull warming.
doesn't seem like there doing a whole lot here.
Wildland firefighting is a tough job it takes time to put s huge fire out
