To factorise x^3 - 2x^2 - x + 2, we can simply group the first two terms and the last two terms together and factorise them separately. (This question can be done normally but you are not supposed to)
x^3 - 2x^2 - x + 2 = (x^3 - 2x^2) - (x - 2)
= x^2(x - 2) - 1(x - 2)
= (x^2 - 1)(x - 2)
= (x + 1)(x - 1)(x - 2)
