Man Joe satriani is definitely immensely underrated. He is a force of nature as a guitarist and in an all around musical sense that it's ridiculous he isn't commercially up there in the top 5.. commercially though to some guitarists could be considered "selling out" but when a musician at the caliber of Joe satriani isn't as well known as they should be, it just isn't right. Well anyway all true guitarists and most musicians probably know who he is anyway, he's the fucking man bottom line..
Anyone who's a serious guitar player or loves the instrument and it's players knows joe satriani. Dude headlined a music fest in my city in India, the amount of people around me who like me knew all the songs all the licks and tricks was honestly very surprising and heart warming at the same time. Man's also held the record for most Grammy nominations without a win at one point so even the mainstream acknowledges the greatness of this man.
+Justin Gulbransen older satriani was better, same with Yngwie and Steve vai, i mean they skillfully got better, but the songs were just more enjoyable in their early emerging years. More hooky, they grabbed you better.
+Justin Gulbransen tbh, I think the love for instrumental rock wained and, like with all these niche markets, they have a life... there's only some much noodling someone can undertake before it gets a tad dull...
I think his best student would have to be the unmentioned Alex Scholnick of Testament. phenomenal player and got better ad he got older. dude was better than yngwie when he was 19 in my opinion. definitely joes best students
He didint realized he realy good in guitar until many people asking him to teach them play the instrument. Wow, he so dedicated on what he's doing, and forget to give a credit on himself for what he did.
Still trying to master satch boogie that song is just fucking sick as hell, I think it's Joe satrianis masterpiece.. it embodies everything that makes him as great as he is..
I like Surfing With the Alien more (no, it's not because I haven't heard anything else. I own most of his albums), but that's largely due to my love of that tone, the Solver Surfer, and the sound of tapping with a pick.
teaching is a gift. Dirty DOM has never been great to at it although I did teach a bunch of high school kids when I was in 6th grade. They went to college and got on the tops list of the UM campus around the time Steve Miller and Boz Skaggs went there.. The bass player eventually got a big name with Elvin Bishop a b day others great players.

I mean, back in the day tapping meant Eddie Van Halen type of stuff, but this song shows that tapping can have a lot of other uses even if you play some kind of blues, it’s brilliant really :) The rest of the album is filled with awesome tunes
I love how it always comes back to their sisters, satch learned on his sisters guitar, Steve vais sister played before him, and if you dont play something perfect in the studio your sister will die lmao
That's somewhat how I feel about the two. I feel like Satch has the better musical talent, while Vai has the better technical ability. Ultimately I like a larger portion of Satch's catalog, but many of the Vai songs I like, I like way more.
I agree. But I do also think it's just a matter of what each of them want to play. Vai has done some incredibly beautiful and musical pieces to. Whispering a Prayer, For the Love of God, Tender Surrender. Satch has more of a basic approach when it come to sound and the way he utilises the instrument but he has also done some stranger technical pieces like Midnight, Day at the Beach, Souls of Distortion etc. They are both extraordinary players but as a guitar player myself, even I wouldn't like to say who's better.

xD
Satch thought he had gifted students when in fact they had an extraorfinarily gifted teacher.
Exactly
Satch gave up his hair so his students would suceed 😢
imagine kirk without satch as a teacher. he wouldn't even get the intro to nething else matter right
axlrosea675 why would anyone imagine that ?

Ler from Primus too.

Pissed alot of People off telling them Sach taught Steve Via. He seems proud to have Joe for a Teacher.
good master !!!!!!! God bless satriani master !!!!!!! Regards !!!!!!!
Still my favorite guitar instrumentalist to this day! Been listening to him ever since Surfing with the alien.
When I was a child
I saw that Satch tapes video over and over.. :)
