Dude these tips are what make busking really fun. If you don't show emotion, you'll look like you're only out there for the money, and people will treat you as such.
Adding money to your tip jar has been a thing for ages..not just busking...bartenders, DJs and live bands in bars do this. People see that money and it jars their brain, and they start thinking about tipping. It's a subconscious thought. You're essentially reminding them..."hey! Tip us if you appreciate our services."
Some very good points. Since having been playing street music for over 40 years I suggest the first and foremost concern is learning your craft. Become an accomplished musician first. Secondly is song selection. Tim is right. Learn songs from as many genres and ages as possible. Invariably there are going to be requests. Not saying as a street musician you must honor all of them. Still it is good to have a large catalog of songs to pick from depending on the audience you are performing in front of. Thirdly is equipment. I have owned four different battery powered PAs. I can not recommend highly enough the AER compact mobile. By the way I am not associated with AER in any way other than being a very satisfied customer. Fourth play good instruments. Instruments that have a good tone, are easy to play (if you have a large audience listening to you and the money is flowing in to your tip container) you do not want to stop cause your fingers are sore. Also that have a good sounding pickup. And fifth...have fun. You are getting to do what you love to do. People are giving you money, completely uncoerced, completely out of their appreciation for you doing something you love to do. Enjoy it.
You’re EVEN sweeter than I and probably a lot of other people thought by constantly talking about your audience and putting a little light into their day. Keep it up!! Also someday soon you might just get a big break and I’ll be so proud 😂
Also heres another tip, im a busker and i find that if i talk to the audience in between each song they will find that really nice and they will give you more money Also a guy tipped in 2 $20 notes or as you will say 2 £20 notes
I can attest to sweetening the pot, we've run experiments doing the same thing with our tip cup at work, and have invariably ended with more money every time we put our own in before starting a shift
Thank you thank you 🙌 I got a buskers licence yesterday and am heading out for my first busking session tomorrow... cheers for the advice lovely! Just what i needed. 💛
As a long-time busker myself, I thought I knew everything I needed to know, but this has helped me a lot with some new tips! Thank you :) PS When you started playing This Is Amazing Grace my heart filled up, what a fab song!
Watching your videos has given me so much more confidence to busk and be able to show my music off to people! I was not going to busk but now I have watched your videos I feel have enough confidence to do that x
Something VERY IMPORTANT that was overlooked in the video is make sure you’re busking at the *right times* You want to be busking in the morning during rush hour, in the afternoon during lunch hours, and in the evening when everyone is headed home. If the roads are full then your case will be full.
Me and my cousin went busking for the first time yesterday and did pretty decent so we planned on doing it more often. I noticed a few things. Your image is a big part of this. At first we set up on the gazebo in the middle of the area and started playing. We didnt get tipped their, so we moved in a small corner in between two little shops. We did very well there and I think it was because shoppers and people walking didnt expect us to he around the corner so when they would walk by we would really catch their attention. I think a big thing is dont try to put yourself in a position like on a big gazebo in the center of an area because it portrays the wrong image...instead position yourself in a small corner or by a sitting area to look more humble and catch peoples attention in an unexpected area. I was looking down playing cajon but I noticed if I was (not obviously) looking up to see if people were noticing us or tipping us people would pass right by, but if I kept my attention on the music and playing with soul and sharing the vibrations of music to people we would get tipped more. So play to brighten others and even your own day, dont do it for money. Sorry this was long just a few things I noted
"WASN'T EXPECTING THAT" song by Jamie Lawson (Ed Sheeran`s pal) was being performed in Crawley by the Mall by a beardy busker ,when I didn`t contribute(It is a boring tune!) -he sang " WASN'T EXPECTING THAT" ....actually happend!
Thank you for the video!!! I'm planning on going to Argentina and play Brazilian music on the streets. I really hope it goes well! Thank you for the tips!
Thank you so much for the tips on busking. I have one more question you might be able to help with. When performing how many songs do you actually perform day to day. Do you just play 5 or do you come planning to play more than 5 (5 is just a random number I just mean a smallish number). And does it matter how many songs you play. Because the way I see it is on a busy street people are always walking past so they probably won't hear repeats. Thanks so much
Is busking with just the voice and backing track a thing? Cuz I can’t play any instruments well enough but I really really wanna get out there and do what I truly love
A talented young performer at many levels...not the least of which... Marketing! Good hair can be part of good marketing. Caps or hats are not good if they hide your face...I have noticed
Only just seeing this but I'm pretty sure I live near you I live near Crawley but anyways, I went busking for the first today in worthing and it went really good, made £150 in around 5 hours, great video btw.
I don’t know if your going to see this but I go busking in East Grinstead with my friend and we want to go busking in Crawley one day but we don’t know if we need a license. Do we need a license in Crawley? Love your content btw
i find it moderately unpredictable - for example one week i might get a whopping £240 in 2 hours but another week £70 in 2 hours. my mum is always trying to suss which song is my ‘’money maker” but i really just think that it depends who is there on that day!
this is very helpful. i’m going busking for the first time this weekend.
How did it go?
How did it go?
How did it go?
Yendal it went very well for a first time. earned around 40 quid. i’ll be doing it more this summer though
I've never busked. I'm going to soon tho. I'm only scared I won't earn anything. Although it's likely I still will

Logan Adkins thank you , true stuff man

@Imagineth i do not know if you are joking or not but i would like the 94.98 note
$20 is only like £15

Nice video, I've been busking for 5 years now and I think your tips are 100 right! Keep it up and I wish you good luck with your music!
Agree with everything here. With one more thing to add: make a great sound. If this box isn't checked, you'll go home hungry.
You have inspired me to start busking I love you and your playing man I really hope you read this, keep up the good work!

I love the worship song slipped in there on this video. Sweet!!😀👍
Watching your videos has given me so much more confidence to busk and be able to show my music off to people! I was not going to busk but now I have watched your videos I feel have enough confidence to do that x
Beth L Hart wow that’s so cool - thank you so much !
Try it defo !
This is really helpful! I love that you sang This is Amazing Grace while busking! So awesome!
Connection with people is all good but then when we are utterly accessible there always some who enter and get stuck to us! How do you deal with that?
What if you mix and master your own backing tracks and put them on an another speaker and play along it.
its kind a fake tho
Why? I record drums and bass at my home studio mix them and master.
@@alexuturgaidze5722 backing track for guitar ? great
Yes.

I shred to Master Of Puppets when I busk.

sweeten the pot sounds a little naive to me all it takes is some tool to reach in a steal your £5/10 i'd stick with just coins.
Would Michael Jackson be a good choice
If you can do an acoustic cover, yes!
Hi thank you for these videos. Do you think that I can sing just without music or with music across repro? Thanks ;)
People give notes when your tin is 100% empty just as putting a note in under your coins.
This is a bit late to when this was uploaded but has anyone ever stolen your money? I'm rather nervous of that lol
No! never happened actually :)
God must be watching me.
