To sum up the story: the presence of the warp core machinery at the beginning of the story is the original anomaly. It should not exist until far in the future. Because it is there, it causes time and space (and every universe herein) to want to fix it, but none can without causing a paradox themselves. It’s just paradox after paradox until it all comes crashing down.
By preventing end story!Mark from going back, you prevent the original paradox from happening (which is also how the Invincible 1 was destroyed - ES!Mark coming back). The universe crashes, but, because the anomaly no longer exists, it’s finally able to reboot (the big boom), and it restores ALL the universes to if the Warp Core had never been constructed.
Now many of the characters you see are various entities that you interact with depending on the story line. Because the universes are infinite and you have presumably made all the choices at the point in the story, they all know various aspects of you. Lady with the Eyepatch is a thief who helps you get the warp control device. Office lady is part of the Universe Protection Team. Old Mark is the Mark that went back, so he’s not only responsible for the warp core construction but the initial damage to the ship because he was trying to prevent the warp core from being turned on (this would not have stopped the time paradox though as the core itself is an anomaly).
There’s many other characters and references, including past Markiplier productions (the mug “I don’t want to be free” is a reference to both an alternate universe scene and a heist with markiplier). Unless you want me to break UA-cam, though, all I can recommend is, well, going back and playing again. Also there’s a couple of music numbers that are just bops.

I agree with the music being great- it made me a little upset that Cliffe skipped The Last Goodbye, as it's arguably the best song in the soundtrack, but I guess I understand that not everyone wants to sit through credits, smh.

The last character in the credit scene was Darkiplier taking the Warp Core gem, which ties back into Heist. Each of the Markiplier series ties into the one before in some fashion, sort of in a weird reverse order type thing.
It couldn't be Annus cause the characters of Unus and Annus died with the channel.

@@gaster997 One of the Heist endings ties back into Date. All the series sort of take place on a multiversal scale where everything is a Schrodinger's Cat situation of being simultaneously canon and non-canon, which helps Mark do pretty much whatever the hell he wants with the stories (especially with Dark and Warf existing beyond this multiverse and being able to just discuss anything related to any project and not have to worry about it).
There is only one ending to Part 2. If you choose to let go of Mark at the end and send him back, the video you get is just the first video of part 1, starting the whole cycle again. You have to hold on to break the cycle and end it, which is what Old Man Mark told you in the diner: Don't let him go back.

@@Flizz0 In between Heist and Date, Darkiplier absorbed the entirety of the warp core, going from normal deep voice and smooth and glitchy to *VERY DEEP REALM SHATTERING ECHO-LIKE VOICE, AND EVERYTHING GLITCHES AND DISRUPTS AROUND HIM.* Also Markipler TV was in between Heist and Date after he absorbed the warp crystal. And Darkiplier vs Antisepticeye was after ADWM.

So, if you go with the least-chaotic options in In Space Part 1, you get a lot more of the actual plot. To summarize, though, a lot of the plot revolves around the assumption that you, the captain, are purposefully causing these rifts, actively trying to destroy the universe (and, depending on the paths you chose, maybe you, the viewer, were). Despite these accusations, Mark is convinced you would never actively try to destroy the universe, and that you and he are simply trying to fix this---fix your ship, fix the warp core, fix the break in the universe.
By the end of Part 1, though, you and Mark get separated, and he's no longer bouncing between the realities with you.
Over the course of Part 2, between hopping to crumbling realities and glimpsing at more of the actual plot you missed the first go around, you find out what Mark has been doing since you've lost each other---he's slowly lost hope in you, buying into the belief that you are actively trying to destroy the universe. Which then compels him to try and rebuild the warp core, with the aim to travel back in time and stop you.
(You can actually spot Old Maniplier in the initial tour of the ship back in Part 1---ducking around, hiding, and trying to sabotage the ship so he can keep you from doing whatever you did to break the warp core and destroy the universe.)
His creating the warp core, however, creates a paradox---because the only way to activate the warp core was to use that crystal he pulled from your hand...the crystal that you got back in Part 1, in that black and shadowy place between time and space, which also happens to bear a striking resemblance to the crystal on the big MacGuffin that was central to A Heist's plot. The crystal is paradox crystalized---its existence bends reality.
By the end of Part 2 of In Space, the truth comes out---Mark was the one who built the warp core, causing the reality tear that broke the universe to begin with. It was only by tossing the crystal that powered it up into its own portal that you were able to reset the timelines to the way they should be---one where there is no warp core, you and Mark both make it safely to your destination, and the credits roll with a happy, jaunty tune.
...and the crystal that bends reality just so happens to find itself tossed back in time, at the feet of a very Dark man, with a very Dark purpose in mind for it...

There are so many references in this video to his other projects like "Who Killed Markiplier", "A Date with Markiplier", and "A Heist With Markiplier". You should check them out so good. Also old Man Mark is from the true ending to part one that you didn't get, lol. Love your reactions! 🤣
The reference to the cook is actually in both A Heist with Markiplier and A Date with Markiplier, which are also both choose your own adventure videos that Markiplier has made in the past. Some of the references are also Who Killed Markiplier, which is not a choose your own adventure, but it does explain where Darkiplier comes from. There's also references to Mother Lovin' Warfstache and Damien in In Space with Markiplier... so there's that as well. There's some deep lore with Markiplier's big projects so far lol

if you go back you can spot old man mark in the beginning of part 1 ( 4:17 )when you enter the ship, that was him sabotaging the ship to stop you, he was the one messing with the ADS since only mark and you can make change anything "dna scanner" the clues where all there, and i love it

Two months late, but oh well.
In the intro to part 1, Mark says that they didn't know who built the warp core, and that it was 'found' after the invincible 1 was destroyed. During a meeting with the elf lady in part 1, Mark also elaborates he was flying around one day and found it in space. The elf lady also says it is thousands of years old (or thousands of lifetimes, in Mark's case).
The lady is convinced that the Captain is responsible for countless deaths, which gradually rubs off on Mark in parts 1 and 2. At the end of part 1, the Captain was supposed to fix the warp core, but it's suddenly missing. Mark becomes convinced that the Captain is responsible.
If you let go of Mark in this part, two things happen: the warp core returns back to floating in space where it is eventually found by Mark again, and Mark transitions into old Mark and sabotages the ship in part 1, which is why your character runs into a whole bunch of issues. You can actually see snippets of old Mark in the intro of part 1.

No, it’s Darkiplier. He’s a reoccurring character on Mark’s channel. If you really want to know more about him, “Who killed Markiplier?” Is a good starting place, followed by “DAMIEN” but “A Heist with Markiplier” and “A date with Markiplier” also include him. Heist is actually the sequel-ish to in Space with Markiplier, and we get to see what Darkiplier ended up doing with the crystal.
It actually make sense because I think everyone of marks series is connected and this was a memory of the captain and marks memory because the actual mark is dead and it makes so much sense with old mark and his ashes remains and ghost of mark had two sides one with anger,selfishness and another one with goodness,helping

If I'm right purplecliffe didn't fully get the part where markiplier was all sad about something he did with the warp core. So here is an explanation.
Markiplier found the warp core in space not knowing where it came from, used it to power his machine and then "you" or "the captain" broke it. The multiverse started breaking and Markiplier thought that the only way to fix it was to send himself back in time to stop "the captain". So he "rebuilt" the warp core machine thing. I say rebuilt with "" because that is the original one. That machine gets sent back in time where past Mark finds it again, making a paradox what infinitly destroys the multiverse

This was hella good. Enjoyed it up to the end. Also, had to replay the whole "Warp core destroyed" scene with angry Markiplier/Darkiplier. Had to make sure i had the right thoughts.
-Mark "rebuilt" the warp core.
-Mark uses the warp core to go back to a different reality where you are.
-Mark's goal? Stop you from destroying things as the anomaly.
So if he had to go back into a different time/reality to "rebuild the destroyed warp core," that meant there wasnt one. He didnt REbuild the core. He just straight up BUILT the core, from scratch.
-Destroy the core? Mark cant warp.
-No Mark in other realities? No rebuilt/created warp core.
No core? No anomaly. Time lines and reality are saved. Boom. -and it was Mark's fault cuz he created the warp core-
