- I should have installed these back when I was lowering my car. No problem, taking care of it now.

Dude! I like how the product link popped up on the screen. I'm going to have to figure out how to do that now.
It’s part of the steps when you upload your videos, called “products”. You can go back and do it in old videos too. 😁
@@AndyKruseChannel oh wow. This must be relatively new? I haven't been uploading much lately so I guess I need to get my act together.
Awesome Andy! Glad to know of the two washers trick on the shock bolts on top. I just put those same shocks on my 67 a month or so ago, but didn't do the Shelby drop like you did. Thanks for sharing. Cheers and blessings from Motown/Dearborn.
Right on!
Have to admit I am kind of jealous you dont have to use a coil spring compressor! Another great video!!
I’m not sure it’s the best way to do my suspension, but I’m really limited if I want my car this low without the use of coilovers. 😁
Stick a rubber hose on the bottom coil as an extra insulator. Probably not necessary but hopefully will keep it smooth and quiet
Yeah, that could work too. :)
Hey Andy, with your help I was able to successfully get the spring centered in the perch. The only issue I have now is that I can’t get the shock to sit straight with the tower because the perch doesn’t tilt up enough. The only time it can be straight is when I jack up the drum and put weight on it as if it was sitting on the ground. Is this how I should install the shock? With weight on the car? I’m assuming if I install the shock and Assemble it with weight on the wheel it will hold it in place and pull the perch up via being bolted to the tower. Right now as it’s up on stands, the shock bolts don’t sit flush with the perch, only the back one nearest the car engine. The front one is like halfway through. THANKS A MILLION FOR YOUR RESPONSES AND VIDEOS
The shock can be a little difficult to align with the spring perch. If the top of the shock is mounted to the shower tower bracket, it is common to jack up the lower control, which in turn lifts the upper control arm, and allows for the spring perch to move into a better position to install the bottom of the shock.
Otherwise, lift the lower control arm with a jack, install the bottom of the shock to the spring perch, then install the shock tower mount cap-piece and connect it to the top of the shock. I have a couple videos surrounding the front suspension between my two white Mustangs, hopefully there's something in there you can watch and see how I did it. :)
Hey Andy good video, you.might want to.look at your upper ball joints looking worn. Best of luck!
Yep, they need to be replaced. :)
@@AndyKruseChannel I found a guy who makes a 1 piece lower control arm assembly with a central mounted jack point built into it, might be something you would be interested in
Supposedly it stiffens up the front end immensely. If interested let me know I can look up his name.
@@AndyKruseChannel Hoping we can get a video on the ball joint replacement.
@@meek01__53 I would be interested in that!
I will look up the name of the guy who makes custom lower control arm assemblies and post it here. Price was decent and beautiful workmanship
Hey what’s up Andy!
I got a 71 Ford maverick and just got two new springs OEM matched. I got a lot of trouble centering it so I can’t get the shocks lined up straight. Would you recommend just chopping them to give myself a easier time lining up on the stiff perches? Like an inch or so
Be careful when cutting your springs. If you have stock upper control arms, cutting a 1/2" of height off the spring will translate into an inch of drop because of the motion ratio of the UCA. Also, clocking the spring to align with the spring perch on the UCA should not be causing you as much trouble as you're experiencing. You might need to reach out to the boys over at VMF and see if they know why your spring is not aligning as expected. :)
@@AndyKruseChannel I appreciate it, just got the isolators I’m so I’m going to try over again. it was just difficult to line up I think because the compressor I’m using is one that latches to the top of the tower. I’m gonna be tackling it tomorrow afternoon
@@AndyKruseChannel yeah I just got the isolators so I’m gonna try aligning the springs better, should the end of the spring be almost flush on the inside of the perch tab? Line it up like that?
@@joseespinoza93 The shock can be a little difficult to align with the spring perch. It is common to jack up the lower control, which in turn lifts the upper control arm, and allows for the spring perch to move into a better position to install the bottom of the shock. :)
That ball joint looks wild! Does it hold grease well?
Yes, but not the best.
@@AndyKruseChannel mine aren't far ahead of yours.. debating when to swap them or to just to a tubular control arm.. what are your plans with suspension now they you have all this extra power? Still enjoying the panhard bar I'm assuming?
I'd like to do something with the control arms, just haven't decided which path. My default answer on the Panhard bar is yes, but I haven't been able to put the car through the twisties since October, so I'm anxious for the weather to improve so I can take the car out. :)
@@AndyKruseChannel i think you should do a little almost kinda demo day with a circuit or something so we can see how you've improved handling and performance cause I feel like most people here are at or behind you as far as upgrades and would like real world feedback especially for bigger ticket items like a panhard or a new rear end build
dang that sucks bet that's first time last time
Yeah, I should make a video of all the first time - last time things that have taken place. :)
Same for me
Perfect!
What was the reason for the grommet? Squeek, rattle, aligment, armageddon?
The top of the spring rides on the under side of the strut tower, metal to metal. This is not ideal for any application, and that's why these were installed from the factory. I wasn't experiencing any issues, but I have not put many miles on this car to begin to experience problems. It was something I should have done when I did the springs a year ago. :)
How does it run with cut springs?
It runs great! I wish I would have cut about 1/4 coil less on the driver's side since it naturally sits a pinch lower, but there's no rubbing or bottoming out. :)
@@AndyKruseChannel I have a 66 with coil over in front. I want to cut the rear springs an inch maybe 1 1/2 How much did you cut off the rear?
@@dandavis4306 If you have leafs springs in the rear, you don't cut them. You can purchase new springs with mid-eye (1 inch lower) or reverse-eye (2 inches lower) on the shackle end. Or you could do lowering blocks below the axle and above the leaf springs, which I've done as well.
