Darnold looks like Christian Ponder when under heavy pressure but at least Darnold could sometime escape. Darnold also looked like Tom Brady when he had a clean pocket. I hope Darnold does well with his new team and doesn't get labeled as another Kirk Cousins who folds in big moments, as long as it isn't against Minnesota.

The concerning issue with JJ McCarthy surrounds the torn meniscus injury in his knee. During the early August preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders he suffered the injury. The coaches were a little bewildered about this mishap because the coaches saw nothing that he did to acquire any sort of injury. His movement and play was fluid, normal and regular. And that is where the real problem is. This meniscus injury initially happened while McCarthy was playing the year before at Michigan. It healed sufficiently evidently for McCarthy to train at the Vikings summer preparations. And then in the first preseason game the injury returns. That course of events ought to concern the Vikings. Because no matter how great he is it is all going to be for naught if he injures it a few more times in the future. And one of those injuries being serious enough to hobble him ending his NFL career. This type of injury is known for destabilizing the knee in the future. And that fact carries an unfortunate destabilizing shadow over his fitness to fulfill the quarterback position. If the season ending injury does happen that could mean the Vikings lose a star quarterback. And where does that leave the Vikings? It would be great if the Vikings can retain Darnold, McCarthy and Jones on the roster, along with Mullins. If they can figure out a way to diminish Darnold's collapsing play, and keep watch on McCarthy's knee, the Vikings would be in greater shape to field a stronger team. Even though the NFL does not ideally work that way, it still is an option. I wonder if Darnold had high anxiety and nerves in his game against the Lions and Rams. And that being the reason his play was off. Anyway, its possible to overcome such collapsing play. The only question is how to do it.
No more scotch tape at IOL position! Then when someone asks us about our o-line history, we can whisper a response like a German tour guide, "That was part of our dark past".
Lesson 1: KOC calls plays like 10 year old me playing Madden. That needs to stop. Lesson 2: Sam Darnold super glues the ball to his hand, except when taking sacks on the opposing side of the field, cause the balls comes out then, just on the ground. Lesson 3: Our Oline is made of pillows. Lesson 4: Why do all our run plays end in our RB running right into a defensive brick wall? Like, can we not devise a way to create any kind of gaps? I guess that's on the Oline again though.. Lesson 5: The refs suck, and the NFL is looking like WWE. Idk man, this whole shit has had me bummed and messed up. 🤷
All great points Andy....and I agree that McCarthy has huge potential...however, *fans must not forget that the majority of 1st round QBs never become the franchise QB & 'saviour' for the team that drafted them.* That pre-season game reinforced feelings that McCarthy has plenty of potential, but *it was only one pre-season game.* Bottom line: fans (and the Vikings organization) must be ready for McCarthy to have a lot of ups & downs during training camp, in pre-season games, during the season & in his first few playoff games. Yes, *if* Kwesi A-M finds significant upgrades for the iOL...and players on offence stay healthy... then McCarthy will be surrounded by more than enough talent to succeed...but it is not guaranteed, so nobody should be *expecting* great things from McCarthy during his first few years as a starter.

McCarthy has a gun for an arm, he's accurate, and he can see the field. Also, he can run about a 4.45 forty. If he can stay healthy, he's got a tremendous future ahead of him.
I have the wicked feeling KOC left Darnold in for the entire 2nd half against the Rams because he knew the game was lost. They were down 24 points at the half. Since 2009 there have been 486 NFL games with a 17 or more point score differential going into halftime. Of these, only 31 teams have come back to win - that’s 6.38%. The game was lost, so why not leave Darnold out there and let his own performance end the certain loud and demanding offseason pressure from both the media and the fans to re-sign him for 35-40 million? Conspiracy theory? Yeah, possibly. I'll even realistically say probably. But I'm devious enough to have done exactly that if I had been in KOC's place. That game certainly turned everyone's opinion towards JJ McCarthy for the Vikings' 2025 starting QB, didn't it? That sure made KAM's and KOC's life a little easier for the next 6 months!
JJ MCCARTHY needs to start preparing now. be ready for nfl blitz packages this is the number 1 rule. learn from the greats drew brees , tom brady, and payton manning they were all extremely good against the blitz.
The Vikings need to improve the offensive line. Brian O'Neil is getting up there in age, the Guards, and Center. JJ McCarthy deserves an awesome offensive line, not a porous one.
You’re putting in a lot of stock of QB that hasn’t played a single down in the nfl. The 4th best qb in tough division I expect the bears & packers to be better next year. It’s going to be tough for a rookie
It's crazy to me that JJ is the highest drafted QB in Vikings history when they had the #1 pick in 1961. What's crazier is they got a fullback with that pick and didn't get Fran until the first pick of the 3rd round at #29.
Not sure wtf JJ has done exactly to earn such fanatical loyalty. Mac Jones won a championship and went #1 too. And that preseason game he started rough in was against backups. It wasn't JJ that went 5th in passing yards and touchdowns and the 8th most in franchise history with a pro bowl spot and 14 wins. Yall need to curb the enthusiasm until more proof is available. Cuz i can hear all the crying and regret if he turns out to be Mac Jones 2.0
You should like Stafford. He played his heart out for the Lions when they sucked. I'll even say he was your only true bright spot on some of those teams.
I loved what Darnold did and I was so excited to see him turn his career around. But holy shit did he collapse and let's be honest, the lights weren't THAT bright. The Lions game was a big road game, but it was still a regular season game. And then the Rams was a wild card game at a neutral location and he still collapsed. He showed the world that he's a regular season QB and isn't going to lead anybody to a Superbowl. I wanted him to prove the haters wrong, but he didn't. JJ will need to put some weight back on after missing a year, but everything I've seen on JJ indicates he's not afraid to put in the work. I'm excited to see what he can do and I'm just as excited to see what Kwesi can do with all the cap space.
I will just add one caution: Players do evolve & get better. There is always a chance that Darnold will continue to improve like he did with the Vikes. He has come a long way from his time with the Jets, so....if he goes to another team with a much better O-line, a much better run game, some weapons AND a great QB coach.....it's possible that Darnold will learn how to perform better in big games.
Yeah, I think you pretty much nailed it though, JJ starts next year, bring DJ in as QB2, maybe bring Rypien back as emergency 3rd QB since I think Mullens can probably get a QB2 job somewhere else, and you don't want to pay someone QB2 money to be E3QB.
The hype and hope around JJ McCarthy reminds me of the hype and hope around Christian Ponder in 2012 and Teddy B in 2014. Although Ponder was a reach at the time, compared to McCarthy, Ponder wasn't injured. But I guess we will have to wait and see. In the NFL, many are called, but few are chosen.
wrong. wrong. wrong. Sam did the Vikes a big favor by reducing his contract value.. We can now sign him to a 2yr $50M contract which will leave plenty of cap space to get a couple of top line FAs like D J Reed. With some astute trading, McCarthy could wind up netting us 4 draft picks in the first 3 rounds.
No worries, Darnold was the bridge-QB for JJ9. Just looking at JJ9’s photo, he’s got that alpha-hunter look. Looking forward to the JJ9 era to start. Cheers!
You should buy a cIue. Every team that moved on from Darnold went bust. Jets though Zach Wilson was the guy... BUST. Panthers thought Bryce Young was the guy... BUST. 49ers thought Brock was the guy... missed playoffs with most talented team in NFL. Moving on from Darnold will be a huge mistake cause JJ is another BUST!
Just really want a guard. A stout guard. A stout center. Been like a decade hoping for our own nasty Conrad Dobler, instead we get Ingram and Bradbury.
Zero plan to get to get the ball out of his hand quickly. Ya dont start the game trying to force the ball to Jefferson, it should have started with Hockenson, then screens to Jones, then maybe he is less rattled and gives their d something else to think about.
lol you are funny! love the song! Agree, get rid of darnold and move on! and get someone else to call plays. oconnell thinks he is good, but he loses big games.
We have nobody who can run after the catch type of receiver…they need to bring in a Debo Samuel type also slants, and more screens need to be implemented
From what I have seen, that's a fair point...although it's also true that KOC's offence does not have the plays that situations where yards after the catch are there for the taking. In contrast, Shanahan's offence has always been built around getting a lot of yards after the catch.
Just sucks that Darnold is losing out on all that money bc our line crapped the bed. Yeah Darnold isn’t the greatest under pressure but he didn’t even have a chance imo
Darnold has already made $56 million in his career, and he's probably going to be in the League another 8-10 years so I wouldn't worry too much about him. Plus, Darnold isn't married to some gold digger (hopefully he never does) and who knows how he's invested his money, what if he's bought real estate, bitcoin, tech stocks, etc?
Lions fans are almost to the low low level of the greasy light pole Philly fans. If I didn’t know any better you’d think they had been dominant for decades with multiple Lombardis….

We MOST DEFINITELY need to draft Ashton Jeanty and sign A Jones to cap friendly and we'll be right with Lions...everything else FA
I think one more year of coaching and Sam the Man is the Man!
No. I don't think so!
Switch up is crazy. Don’t act like it isn’t
As a Michigander, most of us love JJ! We also still like Stafford!
Speak for yourself!!! Stafford can take those capped teeth and shove em!!!
You should like Stafford. He played his heart out for the Lions when they sucked. I'll even say he was your only true bright spot on some of those teams.
Simular team with better o line and jj at the helm. I see us going 11 and 6 or 12 and 5
The Philosophical JJ McCarthy 📖 🔥
More LIke Culpepper ......The others were drafted much lower.
Ponder was taken with 12 I believe or 11 and jj 10 so it’s pretty comparable
I wasn’t this excited for ponder or bridgewater though
Ponder was never in the pressure cooker like JJ was in college, nor did Ponder win an NCAA Championship. JJ is going to be great for the Vikes.
Two completely different players. JJ is a winner and shined in biggest games.
Looking forward to your "Its Daniel Jones' Team" video.
wrong. wrong.
I'm glad 9 looked pissed on the sideline.
Well It’s rebuilding time because jj still has to get used to the nfl in college wasn’t asked to do much it’s going to take time for to get adjusted
No worries, Darnold was the bridge-QB for JJ9. Just looking at JJ9’s photo, he’s got that alpha-hunter look. Looking forward to the JJ9 era to start. Cheers!
Remember when people wanted to Pay Darnold and trade JJ, how fast things change 😂
Releases the ball under in under 10 seconds would be nice as well.
Can we somehow install cyborg knees that are indestructible. That's my only worry, especially with our teams curse with QBs
JJ gonna get killed next year with the OLine. That knee will never hold up.
or his 180lb body!
I can't wait to see McCarthy win some Jeromebardi's. SKOL!
What do other teams have to do with us?
You watched his last two games and really think Sam can take you to the Super Bowl clown 🤡 take
@@EdwardStevens-o2t he probably could if the Vikings had a great defense, solid OLine and good running game.
Rodgers is gonna be the guy lol. Prophecy
Why? Has there been a QB competition, or do you just hand the job over without one? Good teas don't do it that way.
It appears the media has annointed this kid before he's taken a snap. Weird. It's like a cult
lol you are funny! love the song! Agree, get rid of darnold and move on! and get someone else to call plays. oconnell thinks he is good, but he loses big games.
ESPN solak predictics the Vikings will resign Darnold? Thoughts?
Darnold is the guy just not for this team. He will get his money elsewhere if we don’t bring him back
Need an offensive line to protect him otherwise???!!!!!!!
Beef up the OL and DL. It wont matter who the QB is if you cant run the ball and stop the run in the playoffs.
Let’s hope JJ is actually good and not yet another in a long line mirages.
Would you want Sam Darnold back on another 1 year deal if it was for cheap?
We have nobody who can run after the catch type of receiver…they need to bring in a Debo Samuel type also slants, and more screens need to be implemented
They called screens- but Darnold couldn't even throw those....so sad.
From what I have seen, that's a fair point...although it's also true that KOC's offence does not have the plays that situations where yards after the catch are there for the taking. In contrast, Shanahan's offence has always been built around getting a lot of yards after the catch.
Just hope he really is what ya say he is because it'll be really disappointing if not..
You mean JJ, THE INJURED, UNPROVEN QB FROM MICHIGAN WHERE THEY MOSTLY RAN THE BALL? THAT JJ? OK. Whatever.
Darnold should go to Cleveland
Yep, with JJ we’re going to take the North and never give back.
You must be a Bears fan, right? LOL
jim haurbaugh was michigan best QB
Start JJ and Vikings can build a team with 69 million cap space
Baby we got a stew
