I would like to teach a bunny how to lick from a water bottle (as a supplement to a water bowl) and it would also be nice if they would lick my arm, which my previous bunnies have all done and it seems to me to be affection (although it may simply be grooming behavior).

Hi, thank you so much for your video, I love them! Mando (boy) and Lorien (girl) our two free roam bunnies live with us now for 9 month, they are part of the family and we spend a lot of time with them. Our nightly brushing routine is working so very well, almost everyday we are surprised ourselfs 😊 sit pretty is working well, next step is the hands. What we really struggle with is with Lorien that she doesnt come when called. Mando is doing that so well, but she just doesnt. That becomes a problem in the evening around 21:30 when we want to take them to their own bedroom for the night (no cage or anything like that) we have a whole night routine with cuddling, playing and brushing with them in their room and I know she enjoys it just as much as Mando does, but she just will not come to their room when called. Sometimes we just play with Mando until she comes by herself after 30-60 min and then her time with us gets cut short. Any tips on what we can change or try? Do they get a treat when the go to their bedroom? Try rewarding her when she finally does come or giving them a puzzle toy in the room at bedtime. This will build fun routine for them. I have one senior bunny who I did some (sloppy) clicker training with and he still took to it with extreme ease - and now we have two baby buns from a rescue litter who I'm hoping to introduce to clicker training early! My partner is a professional dog trainer with Karen Pryor Academy creds and we also have two dogs who I am learning to clicker train as well. This video was by far the best clicker training video I've seen related to bunnies! Can't wait to see more!

Clicker training picking them up can feel like an uphill battle, as you're fighting against their natural instincts. It's definitely better done whilst they're babies - I'm glad you're starting training young. Pepper and Wally were both adults when we adopted them so I've never expected them to take to being picked up. I'd love work with some babies on this training though.
Clicker training foundation is exactly the same, regardless of age. The first rabbit I taught was in her senior years. She loved it so much she would sometimes steal the clicker and run around with it 😅. Both Pepper and Wally are now also well over 5 years old 🙂
Just got my clicker today 🥰 gonna start today also!!! I’d like to change the behavior of them peeing on the bed.. they are both fixed and use their potty!!! But somehow they keep peeing on the bed….. it really seems a communication thing. They mostly do it when they are asking for negative attention or want a treat 😭 or when I’m 5 min late with giving dinner. Would be amazing to have a clicker training video specially for stopping the bunny to communicate through peeing action. Haha! So much love for you girl. Cheers
So great to hear you got a clicker! Yay! Rabbits sometimes just like peeing on plush surfaces. It can also be territorial. An idea could be to only allow access to the bed after they've already relieved themselves, see if that helps. Watch them very closely when they are on the bed and (in the same way you would if you were litter training) if you see them lift their tail, tell them "NO" and move them to their box. It's unlikely it's because they're asking for a treat, unless of course you have been responding to it by giving them food. In which case, don't lol 😆. But every rabbit's different and you never know, they may be doing it for attention. I do have a good trick Pepper and Wally know to communicate to me if they want something to eat. I will be sure to do a video. In the meantime, watch my place training video and work with them on that, next to your bed. They'll learn that it's a much more effective way to communicate with you. My rabbit is about 1 and a half year old.I got him when he was 7months.He is free roaming.He let's me do anything except carry him and put him in his Carrier.Itnis very stressful.

I have 3 bunnies and I find it difficult or worry how to click at the right time, or do you train them separately? Right now I’m trying to click for the carrier (one is very reluctant. But I’ve watched your video and here’s hoping), come in command, twirls, and to go in their xpen (bunny house). Some we have been working on before we started with the clicker.
Working with more than one bunny can definitely be a little more challenging. Training them separately, especially when it's a new command, will get the best/quickest results. Another option is to use different clickers or different sounds for each rabbit. For us - Pepper's marker is a single click and Wally's is a double click.

I think my buns have me trained with their cage shaking and biting to get morning pellets. 😅 Training to avoid accidental carpet accidents, biting, and being able to pick up more would be nice.
Are your rabbits neutered? Having accidents and nipping are both hormonal behaviours that usually occur with unfixed rabbits. As you mentioned both, I figured I'd ask.
No chewing. I unplug my DVD player after playING it but today I caught him trying to chew it. No harm came except a tiny spot where the wire is now exposed but cannot have that; peeing on the bed to mark territory. He is due to get neutered in the next month or so but that would help. Just bought a clicker. Luring and step by step seems to work even before the clicker has arrived.
Hey I like the inspiration you gave me my rabbits like go to the bathroom every time where the in the house they like they go like they don't in outside they don't do that much when we bring them outside they're very active actually but we have one rabbit that is very lazy inside their cage and all they're not like as big as your bunny rabbits the kind of small I can take a photo and show you but I don't think so that's possible on my phone where do you get the clicker from is it from Amazon or something listen I know this like a very big reward or something I don't know what they say the things that they do we have some potatoes we don't have a lot of items on the Malaysia here the one name is strawberry because it's very small and cute she goes up we have some potatoes on the floor so what she did is she claimed on the potatoes and she pooped on the potatoes we had it was very irritating but yes you might be correct there will be scared of the cricket that might be kind of scared also about the clicker because they're very young age so I think this is a stupid question to askbut do you like take care of the bunnies that we bring or something or you you actually tell us this to bring clicker and all one more problem is we have one more rabbit that is named as blueberry i it is very lazy it does not run around in cage just relaxes in the cage and how so it won't run around that much we don't have a carpet that's it so you can tell me more about the clicker because I think I'll need like two clickers because I don't know if there will behave or not thank you

Many months ago when I first discovered you channel, I was in awe of your methods and your buns' trainability. I can't believe the clicker training it's working so well and easily for my bun! I waited until I earned a lot of trust of her to do this. It took her 2 days to establish the association between clicker and reward. And it took her just another 2 days to learn how to do a 360 degree turn to get reward! Thank you so much!! I will continue to use your method and see what it takes my bun-bun. BTW, things I'd like to train my bun to do: 1. going into a carrier willingly 2. coming onto and staying on the grooming table 3. staying still for a nail trim 4. some tricks maybe

STOP CHEWING BASE BOARD, furniture, and play with her toys. I'm just now seeing my Bunbuns personality. She lets me kiss her and she licks my nose. She also grooms me/licks my hair however she also seems to either be diggin around my head which was super painful but I know she meant well. I feel like she kinda understands what I'm telling her. She understands when I call her name.
ive been training my rabbit to be picked up calmy, for 100 days , im picking her up , then giving her pellets right after. Im on day 6 doing 1 pick up per day , i know she will never enjoy it but I want her to tolerate it should the need arise to go to the vet etc.. Shes 4 months old , So i thought i best do it now before shes set in her ways .
@@TheBunniesBrigade we had to give up pretty early in , she was soo stressed and kicking so hard i was afraid she would injure herself severely,, Once i got her up and was holding her , she stayed still , but getting her off the ground was rough and shed squeal.. I can still pick her up when its needed , and she will climb all over us , but I dont think she will ever be comfortable being picked up regularly
I have a new young rabbit and it seems to be adapting well to my home and I’m letting it free roam my large living room while I’m in there and able to get watch it. It does well using its cage to pee and poop except, it loves to pee and poop on my couch the second I turn my back or walk into the kitchen. Even when I’m petting her while laying on the couch she is pooping the entire time and usually pees as well. Help!

Babies of all species have accidents and sometimes having the full run of a room can be a very BIG world, sofas can be very high as well from a young one's perspective as well, so I imagine she was avoiding making the journey all the way back to the toilet. My bunny poops around the house. Just small balls here and there but there’s one spot he will make a whole bed of poop and it drives me crazy cause I want him to free roam
Unfortunately plants = food for rabbits and training a foraging animal not to act upon their foraging instincts would be next to impossible. The best thing to do would be to bunny-proof by getting nice plant pot stands or simply keep them on table or windowsill.
Right now 👍🏼🙂 And, a note for anyone reading this, please please avoid adopting a rabbit younger than 8 weeks. I don’t know your situation (perhaps they are a rescue), but if you have the choice, they must stay with their mothers until 8 weeks of age or you may experience health issues due to underdevelopment.
Hello! Our bunnies (3) we adopted as older (2/3 years old). They are good with their litter box with the exception that they consistently get ‘close’. In, but also right next to - not matter where we have moved it, they get in and around, which shows me that they know and truly believe they are doing the right thing … we have tried everything we can think of … just need to find that last thing that gets them to understand inside all the time.
I would love to stop chewing or pulling the bars of their x-pen and hutch (the hutch is always open and they are never trapped in there) and have a better way for them to let us know what they need. I'd love to be able to teach them to come when called. I'd love to be able to set some physical boundaries with them for places in the apartment not to go so we can free roam them a little more and a little better. Id also love to see if I can get them comfortable with being picked up since I know we need to sometimes and I hate that it is so stressful for them!

Plenty of siting or lying on the floor and allowing them to approach you, and always having food to give them when they do. Then work toward touching them as they take the food, then a little stroke as they take the food, and get them used to increasingly more touching. Plenty of rewarding when they allow you to interact with them.
My bun, Ollie, wouldn't see her pellets as a treat because I leave out a bowl all day. Should I not be doing that? I get the impression that you feed your buns with twice a day "meals" but give them access to hay all day. Is that true?
Yes, that is what I do. It’s not recommended to free-feed rabbits as it deters them from their hay and can sometimes lead to obesity. If your rabbits are a similar size to Pepper and Wally, then try to keep to 2 tbsps a day.
My male and female bunnies have both been living in separate ex pens until they're old enough to be spayed and neutered (which is only a week away now, thank goodness) and I can tell they're both pretty restless. I wish I would have begun clicker training a while ago, but I'm sure starting the food association part now will give them something to do while they're still separated after surgery. Keep the great videos coming!! I'd personally like to teach both my bunnies to spin!
Yay, great idea! Also this is actually a perfect opportunity to start training. It’s much easier to train them individually than together as they can distract each other a lot! Spin is a nice simple trick to start with and you can probably start giving it a go yourself using the luring method 🙂
Always a good question. You can either train them separately, which is the most effective. Or, alternatively, you can allocate a different click to each rabbit - for example, one click for one bunny and 2 clicks for the other.
Thanks for subscribing! It's never too early, in my opinion 🙂. The only thing I'd say would be to take care of what you're rewarding them with. I would recommend sticking strictly to their pellets. You won't be able to offer high value rewards (like fruits) until they're a little older.

Pepper did that when we first adopted her. Best thing to do actually is let out a short, high-pitched scream/squeal whenever they do it. This indicates to them that it hurts as that’s how they indicate acute pain. You can also then walk away, don’t touch them, just leave - nipping does NOT get attention, thank you!
As you asked for suggestions for specific things we would like for our bunnies to learn: What I would love my rabbits to do is sit still while brushing and cutting nails. They are both too large and strong (4kg and 4.5kg and according to my vet very fit & muscular) for me to burrito on my own. So theres usually a lot of bribery squirming and chasing involved and I feel really bad after. 🙈 If there’s some tricks to get them to be more okay with it, that would be amazing!
You absolutely can train them to be okay with grooming and nail trimming. It requires the shaping method and you have to work in very very slow, gradual steps. It's a big commitment that takes a lot of patience. I'll definitely make a note of this one as I know it is a very common issue, but it may take a while to put a demonstration together so you would have to bear with me... I can start you off now by telling you that the first step to shape nail trimming would be literally just touching their paws - click and reward. With brushing the first step would be holding the brush over them, as if you're going to brush - click and reward - then take the brush away and repeat. Don't pick them up (that'll be extra steps to the process) and if they want to walk away, let them, don't chase. See how long this can take! 😅 On a side note, when it comes to brushing, have you tried different types of brushes/combs? Grooming mitts are often recommended as some rabbits just think they're being stroked.

My rabbit has learned some cues without the clicker - should I still use the clicker for the same (and new tasks?) Also I think I initially “clicker” trained my bunny through my iPhone camera shutter sounds. 🤣 Thank you for all these wonderful videos.
It's fine if your rabbit already knows some commands. You can still introduce it, as shown in the video, and then use it to reinforce already learned commands as well as new ones.

Put the food in front your rabbit and click as he goes to eat. If he isn't enthused by his food, try a different pellet or different veggies.

Hey I like the inspiration you gave me my rabbits like go to the bathroom every time where the in the house they like they go like they don't in outside they don't do that much when we bring them outside they're very active actually but we have one rabbit that is very lazy inside their cage and all they're not like as big as your bunny rabbits the kind of small I can take a photo and show you but I don't think so that's possible on my phone where do you get the clicker from is it from Amazon or something listen I know this like a very big reward or something I don't know what they say the things that they do we have some potatoes we don't have a lot of items on the Malaysia here the one name is strawberry because it's very small and cute she goes up we have some potatoes on the floor so what she did is she claimed on the potatoes and she pooped on the potatoes we had it was very irritating but yes you might be correct there will be scared of the cricket that might be kind of scared also about the clicker because they're very young age so I think this is a stupid question to askbut do you like take care of the bunnies that we bring or something or you you actually tell us this to bring clicker and all one more problem is we have one more rabbit that is named as blueberry i it is very lazy it does not run around in cage just relaxes in the cage and how so it won't run around that much we don't have a carpet that's it so you can tell me more about the clicker because I think I'll need like two clickers because I don't know if there will behave or not thank you

Many months ago when I first discovered you channel, I was in awe of your methods and your buns' trainability. I can't believe the clicker training it's working so well and easily for my bun! I waited until I earned a lot of trust of her to do this. It took her 2 days to establish the association between clicker and reward. And it took her just another 2 days to learn how to do a 360 degree turn to get reward! Thank you so much!! I will continue to use your method and see what it takes my bun-bun.
BTW, things I'd like to train my bun to do:
1. going into a carrier willingly
2. coming onto and staying on the grooming table
3. staying still for a nail trim
4. some tricks maybe

STOP CHEWING BASE BOARD, furniture, and play with her toys. I'm just now seeing my Bunbuns personality. She lets me kiss her and she licks my nose. She also grooms me/licks my hair however she also seems to either be diggin around my head which was super painful but I know she meant well. I feel like she kinda understands what I'm telling her. She understands when I call her name.

how long should I click with food before training?

ive been training my rabbit to be picked up calmy, for 100 days , im picking her up , then giving her pellets right after. Im on day 6 doing 1 pick up per day , i know she will never enjoy it but I want her to tolerate it should the need arise to go to the vet etc.. Shes 4 months old , So i thought i best do it now before shes set in her ways .

@@TheBunniesBrigade we had to give up pretty early in , she was soo stressed and kicking so hard i was afraid she would injure herself severely,, Once i got her up and was holding her , she stayed still , but getting her off the ground was rough and shed squeal.. I can still pick her up when its needed , and she will climb all over us , but I dont think she will ever be comfortable being picked up regularly

I have a new young rabbit and it seems to be adapting well to my home and I’m letting it free roam my large living room while I’m in there and able to get watch it. It does well using its cage to pee and poop except, it loves to pee and poop on my couch the second I turn my back or walk into the kitchen. Even when I’m petting her while laying on the couch she is pooping the entire time and usually pees as well. Help!
Hi Leia. How are you doing with your baby? I know it's been a while since you left this comment. I'm hoping these habits have improved by now. Babies of all species have accidents and sometimes having the full run of a room can be a very BIG world, sofas can be very high as well from a young one's perspective as well, so I imagine she was avoiding making the journey all the way back to the toilet. My bunny poops around the house. Just small balls here and there but there’s one spot he will make a whole bed of poop and it drives me crazy cause I want him to free roam

I would love for my rabbit to stay away from my plants
Unfortunately plants = food for rabbits and training a foraging animal not to act upon their foraging instincts would be next to impossible. The best thing to do would be to bunny-proof by getting nice plant pot stands or simply keep them on table or windowsill.

And, a note for anyone reading this, please please avoid adopting a rabbit younger than 8 weeks. I don’t know your situation (perhaps they are a rescue), but if you have the choice, they must stay with their mothers until 8 weeks of age or you may experience health issues due to underdevelopment.

Hello! Our bunnies (3) we adopted as older (2/3 years old). They are good with their litter box with the exception that they consistently get ‘close’. In, but also right next to - not matter where we have moved it, they get in and around, which shows me that they know and truly believe they are doing the right thing … we have tried everything we can think of … just need to find that last thing that gets them to understand inside all the time.
I would love to stop chewing or pulling the bars of their x-pen and hutch (the hutch is always open and they are never trapped in there) and have a better way for them to let us know what they need. I'd love to be able to teach them to come when called. I'd love to be able to set some physical boundaries with them for places in the apartment not to go so we can free roam them a little more and a little better. Id also love to see if I can get them comfortable with being picked up since I know we need to sometimes and I hate that it is so stressful for them!

Hello! I just recently got two 8 week old bunnies and they are still a bit nervous. I’m trying to get them used to being picked up and stroked, I know patience is key but are there any other tips you are able to give me to make them feel more comfortable? Anything is appreciated! Thanks! X
Plenty of siting or lying on the floor and allowing them to approach you, and always having food to give them when they do. Then work toward touching them as they take the food, then a little stroke as they take the food, and get them used to increasingly more touching. Plenty of rewarding when they allow you to interact with them.
My bun, Ollie, wouldn't see her pellets as a treat because I leave out a bowl all day. Should I not be doing that? I get the impression that you feed your buns with twice a day "meals" but give them access to hay all day. Is that true?
Yes, that is what I do. It’s not recommended to free-feed rabbits as it deters them from their hay and can sometimes lead to obesity. If your rabbits are a similar size to Pepper and Wally, then try to keep to 2 tbsps a day.

My male and female bunnies have both been living in separate ex pens until they're old enough to be spayed and neutered (which is only a week away now, thank goodness) and I can tell they're both pretty restless. I wish I would have begun clicker training a while ago, but I'm sure starting the food association part now will give them something to do while they're still separated after surgery. Keep the great videos coming!! I'd personally like to teach both my bunnies to spin!
Yay, great idea! Also this is actually a perfect opportunity to start training. It’s much easier to train them individually than together as they can distract each other a lot! Spin is a nice simple trick to start with and you can probably start giving it a go yourself using the luring method 🙂

Yes! Absolutely!! In fact it’s best to start training when they’re young as they’re still establishing habits and super open to learning.
I am working with my nine month old and four month old Flemish giants. I was just curious on how you have done it with two bunnies at the same time.
Always a good question. You can either train them separately, which is the most effective. Or, alternatively, you can allocate a different click to each rabbit - for example, one click for one bunny and 2 clicks for the other.

Thanks for subscribing! It's never too early, in my opinion 🙂. The only thing I'd say would be to take care of what you're rewarding them with. I would recommend sticking strictly to their pellets. You won't be able to offer high value rewards (like fruits) until they're a little older.

My rabbit bites for attention, not very agressive but its annoying behavior
Pepper did that when we first adopted her. Best thing to do actually is let out a short, high-pitched scream/squeal whenever they do it. This indicates to them that it hurts as that’s how they indicate acute pain. You can also then walk away, don’t touch them, just leave - nipping does NOT get attention, thank you!

As you asked for suggestions for specific things we would like for our bunnies to learn:
What I would love my rabbits to do is sit still while brushing and cutting nails. They are both too large and strong (4kg and 4.5kg and according to my vet very fit & muscular) for me to burrito on my own.
So theres usually a lot of bribery squirming and chasing involved and I feel really bad after. 🙈
If there’s some tricks to get them to be more okay with it, that would be amazing!
You absolutely can train them to be okay with grooming and nail trimming. It requires the shaping method and you have to work in very very slow, gradual steps. It's a big commitment that takes a lot of patience. I'll definitely make a note of this one as I know it is a very common issue, but it may take a while to put a demonstration together so you would have to bear with me...
I can start you off now by telling you that the first step to shape nail trimming would be literally just touching their paws - click and reward. With brushing the first step would be holding the brush over them, as if you're going to brush - click and reward - then take the brush away and repeat. Don't pick them up (that'll be extra steps to the process) and if they want to walk away, let them, don't chase. See how long this can take! 😅
On a side note, when it comes to brushing, have you tried different types of brushes/combs? Grooming mitts are often recommended as some rabbits just think they're being stroked.

I haven’t tried a brushing glove yet. I’ll definitely try! What I currently use is either a furminator or hairbuster, although they hate both 😅
Ah yeah, I hear the hair buster is good but I doubt my two would appreciate it any more lol. That’s so great that you already have a training routine! LOVE that! Yeah, you can definitely use that time to work on this. 😊
My rabbit has learned some cues without the clicker - should I still use the clicker for the same (and new tasks?)
Also I think I initially “clicker” trained my bunny through my iPhone camera shutter sounds. 🤣

It's fine if your rabbit already knows some commands. You can still introduce it, as shown in the video, and then use it to reinforce already learned commands as well as new ones.
