There are mishaps in everything. If you don't know that by now you probably don't live in reality. Also it's because of Boeing that you or your family can fly or else you can cycle and take boat there. Even boats have mishaps. Grow up and live in real life because you are dealing with it every day
Do you honestly believe the government would spend upwards from $100 million + for 8 days only? The crazy thing, if the US and Russia were having good relations, and not flexing muscle at each other, Russia would get these astronauts back home sooner.

International treaty establishes that vehicles launched into space, or landed on another body, remain the property of the originating country

They would only be up there for 9 months in the absolute longest scenario. NASA astronauts have stayed in space for over a year before. This something new in terms of the human body. The average mission last 6 to 7 months.
