@@amberdiphillipo4824 I think it's just because they're a very pretty tree. Black maple also have very pretty fall colors, and these more aesthetic trees just so happen to be often planted in cemeteries.
Thanks. I'm about to germinate about 200 seeds. I live in Washington State and we have our Big Leaf Maple but it will be nice to introduce these and get some real color in the fall. Big Leafs get orange, but not red.
it is the benchmark tonewood for drum construction. the best sounding drums are made with sugar maple wood. in plywood, solid shell, stave, or block construction. it is also one of the finest wood for drumsticks. I always play with sugar maple drumsticks.
I live in Spain and I have a sugar maple that is about 30 years old. It does not blossom yet, How long does it take for a Sugar Maple to blossom? And if the sugar maple is alone, will it produce seeds or does it need other maples around?. Thanks very much for your help.
@Pith Helmet thanks very much for the information. Yes I have recently seen a lot of flowers on the sugar maple last Spring, lots of bees were buzzing around, and I have just found out that the tree bears samaras, even a couple of saplings growing nearby (so it must have blossomed last year). Now I am not impatient anymore..... ;-)
had to cut one down the other day(was starting to lean too close to the house) tough tree to cut due to all the knots in it, took a good bit of time with two saws running
I have a lovely 15 year old sugar maple tree in front of my home in Toronto, planted by the developer of the homes. In June July and August I have sugar maple beetles zooming around the top of it, about 12 beetles every night. They don't seem to alight on the leaves. They stay about 15 minutes then fly off to the next tree. We've caught a couple of these beetles; they're like Japanese tree beetles. Our sugar maple beetles are also borers I believe. I haven't set a trap for these yet as every beetle in the neightbourhood would be attracted to my property. I'm going to apply Nemotodes to the base of the tree and lawn to see if I can stave off larvae that comes after beetles lay their eggs in the grass and become grubs. The sugar maple tree has a disease called Sugar Maple Wilt blight which I think comes inherent in the tree, not from my soil. Everyone's in the neighbourhood has the same. Every year in July, then again in late August, the leaves turn brown and fall off, leaving half the tree left with green and half thinned out. Then the normal Fall turning leaves come off in October. I've tried biological fungus killer for 3 years, which I put in while deep watering in 4 tree watering spikes. Nothing has helped. I guess I'm stuck with it; I hate to cut the tree down. I'll also continue to use fertilizer spikes. BTW, the tree is growing at a good speed each year.
I wish that you could make longer and more detailed videos related to this series of tree videos.
BTW, why are these videos taken place at a cemetery?
Oakwood cemetery in Syracuse, NY

There's probably more variety in the cemetery. One stop shop. It's like a cemetery arboretum.
Shared. I have helped in the gathering and making of maple syrup in Michigan. It was a labor of love.
Excellent Very Clear Video and Description... Thank You
Awesome video. Also the sugar maple leaf is a national symbol for us proud Canadians!

Great video touched on all key points wasted no time
These days, an important piece of information about any tree is its vulnerability or resistance to pests and/or disease. Any information on this?
Are there other maples that have similar bark? Thanks!
