Yeah it would end with 17 growth counters instead. In the case he used it effectively doubled it for the most part since it was only going up by one at a time, then the creature would get 9 counters when they were moved onto it.
Well forgotten ancients allows you to move a counter to and individual creatures so if you have enough creatures you go to 24 with his math. 1 per turn that gets turned to 2 per turn so 8. Then pass these to 8 individual creatures which is 8 more and then 8 from hardened scales. So 8 from ancient and 16 from moving counters 8 +16 = 24

Once I was playing with my buddies commander with Planechase. There was a plane (or phenomenum, I can't recall) that basically chaos warp everything. I got a felidar sovereign and then it was my turn
I'd like to mention Biovisionary. I have a Bant-colored deck centered around creating token-copies of creatures. With Parallel Lives/Anointed Procession, populate effects (Full Flowering) or just a simple kicked Rite of Replication, you just win. And it's at the end of your turn, not during the upkeep. I also once had a fun round with Simic Ascendancy where I played the card, managed to get 20 counters on it during that same turn and then activated my Sage of Hours, getting an extra turn and winning on that upkeep.

a friend of mine had revel in riches and 11 treasures on board, i coordinated between the three other players to have me cast a white sun's zenith for 0, letting another player tap 7 merfolk to counter it, letting the third player draw 7 cards off verity circle to get something to get rid of revel in riches before their upkeep trigger

It’s in my Kinnan jank deck. Flash it in with Alchemist’s Refuge on an end step right before your turn with Kinnan and Basalt Monolith and you’ve got some nice razzle dazzle.
Nice to see Oloro making an appearence here. His pre-con deck has quite a number of good cards like Toxic Deluge, but its prototype "eminence" ability is a dubious one since it either forces opponents to focus you to take you down, or use alternate win conditions if they can't beat you down.
Revel in Riches is not meant to stay on the table for long, it is meant to be played as a RESPONSE to a board wipe from another player (you need Vedalken Orrery or Leyline of Anticipation for that, but both cards are great for Commander and may go into any deck). If you play RiR as a response to a board wipe, you automatically gain it and ten Treasures on the table, and your opponents suddenly realize you're going to win on your next upkeep. All you need is to hold your position until that time, and your extra Treasures may provide you a boost :) Plus, you can gain some Treasures prior to playing Revel in Riches with Smoldering Tithe or Shiny Impetus. Helix Pinnacle is always a good backup plan for any deck able to generate a lot of mana - and most Green decks can. The problem is it really can make you a target if you can't win in 1-2 turns, so it should be played only if you're ready to win. Zaxara is a great commander for alternate win conditions. It can easily win with Helix Pinnacle (just one more card needed to untap Zaxara!) or with Simic Ascendancy (a lot of Hydra tokens with counters!!!) You can add Revel in Riches too and play all-defense until your combo appears. I was very happy when I've opened RiR and foil Helix Pinnacle in my Mystery boosters, and I really wonder why they're so cheap?
Pillow forts do suck. My moto is "I don't need removal, I just need a bigger threat than they have". I don't like deathtouch and pillowforts as they stop me from doing smashing face with big creatures.

Since when was turning creatures sideways a back wincon? Even if you don't like turning creatures sideways, Wizards has been very kind to Boros in recent years in giving it other things to do besides attack. You can burn people out with Feather. You can go eggs combo with Gerrard. You can go infinite mana + outlet with Zirda. You can use underworld breach plus a million other things that accidentally combo with that card. Boros is great at attacking to kill, but Wizards has slowly been giving us more options.
Harden scales is good with forgotten ancient, but I wouldn’t exactly call harden scales doubling up. Yes it doubles if I add one +1/+1 counter since it goes to 2, but If I add 2 +1/+1 counters to a creature i’ll get just 3, 3 to 4, etc. You still get value and it will accelerate Simic growth, but all it does is just add one more counter to what’s added.
I would love to see an episode on banned/Silver-bordered win-cons. I‘m not really invested into Un-sets and I Imagine there are some quite funny and/or ridiculous wincons available in those. Thanks for the content, really enjoying it!

During BFZ you still had Mastery of the Unseen in Standard. I ran a deck with Felidar Sovereign and Mastery to great effect. You could regularly win with the trigger since you could flip him and get the trigger whenever you wanted / needed it. Was pretty fun.
I wish elf mom got mentioned more when they talk about infinite mana, I rock helix pinnacle in my deck and I pretty much always trigger it with her combo with umbral mantle
I actually run alot of these in some of my decks. Smothering tithe+revel the only downside is the table is mad at you. Animar+ the ozolith+ simic ascendancy+ a bunch of chump low cost creatures, the ozolith is there in case of a board wipe you can play animar again after, or another creature, and put those counters back with the ozolith, and add more counters to Ascendancy. Nyxbloom ancient/Kinnan Bonder guy+ Basalt monolyth+ Helix pinacle, Play this on opponents end step before your next turn. The easiest win condition out of all of this is Chulane+ Lab man/ Jace+ leveler, you play lab man/Jace and then Leveler and automatically draw from chulane and win automatically and if you have a Grand abolisher/ Teferi, time raveler you cannot be stopped.

I had always wanted to build a Rhys deck but knew how powerful it could be with Elf tribal and our playgroup is more casual so I never pulled the trigger and bough the card. I ended up putting Helix Pinnacle as my win con and actually won with it. The whole table never even knew about the card (neither did i) and it was amazing
Approach of the Second Sun + Narset's Reversal is a good delivery system. Though my favourite and most successful is Biovisionary. Triggers at End Step, so cast it and Rite of Replicate with kicker. Go to End Step and win. Takes 12 mana total in Blue/Green, which is very easy to get.
I'm surprised that he didn't mention doubling season with simic ascendancy, you only need to put 5 +1/+1 counters on something. It doubles the +1/+1 counters to 10 then the growth counters to 20.
For Simic Ascendancy it really helps as well if you have a Managorger Hydra or, in my opinion even better, if you have a Kalonian Hydra (that doubles its +1/+1 counters when it attacks) or Primordial Hydra that you just pay 10 into the X and by your next upkeep, you resolve first the hydra, then the ascendancy and bam, you win!

I love helix pinnacle in my Omnath the Locus of Mana deck. It's great to have something to dump your floating mana into Omnath gets removed and you can't flash him back into play in time.
I just realized a really powerful combo. Body of study + simic ascendancy. Body of study creates a 0/0 token w/ +1/+1 counters equal to the number of cards currently in your deck...
Revel in riches helped my little lad dominate a game at our local shop - not because he got the treasures but because the player whos turn was just before his was going to do a board wipe but then realised what would happen and so had to counter their own spell, my lad on his turn then pumped all his mana into a X cost deal X damage spell that knocked out 2 of 3 players as well as giving him the treasures. Basically if it hadn't been for revel they guy would have still had the counter spell.
Helix Pinnacle is in my Kruphix deck, almost exclusively as a way to dump my stored mana if Kruphix gets removed. It's not like I built my deck around Helix, but it just happens to synergize well with my deck. I can end up generating 100 mana pretty easily, even though I have no infinite mana combos in the deck (only ramp).
I have a Darksteel reactor win con in my Vorel of the hull clade deck, it gets a counter at the beginning of your upkeep. if it has 20 counters you win the game. it doesn't have to be in your upkeep! yay, so vorel van double these counters turn 5 is gonna be 2 counters turn 6 is gonna be 6 counters turn 7 is going to be 14 and you basically win at turn 8 without any untap spell and if you have the reactor in your hand
Revival/Revenge is another budget life doubler at 6 Mana. Now I'm thinking about making a simic ascendency deck on arena lol. I've did it before, but it wasn't as good a few sets back without all the options now. Put a counter on incubation druid then taps for 5 Mana, 4 pelt collector, 4 growth chamber guardian, 3 evolution sage, 4 Nissas, 3 biogenic ooze, 2-3 leyline of abundance🤔 rize of vhitu ghazi puts 9 +1+1 counters on a land for 5 Mana as well
I had a friend who played Revel in Riches on his turn, it then moved to another friend's turn and didn't realize he played that and played a board wipe to clear his field. I told them "Are you sure you want to do this?" They said yes and the first friend won the game on his turn since I had no way to stop it.
Tempt into boundless, activate feldon's cane, Float all Mana, cycle decree, play splendid rec, cast leveler, activate elixir of immortality, rinse and repeat Play at cEDH table, tell them your not there to win.
I have a deck with most of these. A life gain/drain deck with Felidar and Test, an enchantress draw deck with Lab Man and Lab Jace, and I'm going to be making a mana doubler helix pinnacle deck. Although, I will literally never run Approach

I've always considered felidar sovereign a "practical loss" card, or "losing with bragging rights" . What happens when you play felidar sovereign? Everybody else at the table says "cool, you are now out of the game, we'll keep on playing for second place, congrats" What happens when you lose? Same thing. "Cool, you're out of the game, we'll keep playing for first place, better luck next time" Practically the same thing. It's losing with bragging rights.
The best deck I've ever made and is funny when I win is my mazes is the world. It runs 77 lands and most utility. It uses tunnel vision or hermit druid to dump most if not all your library to the graveyard and uses splendid reclamation to get all the lands back. Then stall with counterspells or glacial chasm to stop board whips and maybe even a Teferi's Protection to stop spot removal. It runs a lot of extra land plays and land recursion. Oh and because the deck runs almost all lands you'll be board whipping ever turn. Then win comes out of nowhere and the combo takes a lot of mana to get off without a hitch, but by now I think you'll have enough of it.
A new answer to the question, which is the weakest additional colour? So not mono-white, but instead any (combination of) colour(s) + the colour in question. Sure it's a way more complex question. But e.g. in my decks, red is often just 3 or 4 cards. These cards do certain jobs especially well, but you have to fix one additional colour just for that.
aproach of the secondsun is also easyer to put in if you copy that spell, cause the card says: if he was cast from your hand you win, doesnt matter if the copy doesnt... oh and your copy will allways go first xD
I play Revel in Riches in a deck full of wraths, with creatures like Ashen Rider. It also has Felidar Sovereign in it...now I need to get the other alt win cons in it.
Helix Pinnacle in an Omnath Locus of Mana Deck... just store up your mana and then right before your turn put 100 counters onto it and bam. one of the guys in my old play group had a deck that was Omnath Locus of Mana, 98 Forests and elfhame sanctuary. it did unnervingly well, even against decks with mass land destruction. it wouldnt have been too hard for him to take out a forest and put HP in xD maybe even generated horizons too
I’ve won one game with Simic Ascendency. It’s in my Pir/Toothy deck, and if I do much as look at it it gets counters lol. Glad that it requires nothing but my commander to make viable, but if I have hardened scales out it only requires 4 triggers and it’s set. I know it doesn’t work in competitive and I bum hard when it’s destroyed but might protect other enchantments. It requires action.
Jihora's familiar, etherium sculpture, foundry inspector, all 5 artifact lands on Field then cast mycosyth golem, mycosyth lattice, darksteel forge, unwinding clock, niv's disc... Show your play group you really care.
Easiest alternative win condition is the alternative loss condition. Run all the pacts, a sundial of the infinite and "end the turn" effects. Once you get out your enchantment that copies spells for all players, you play as many pacts as you need to force everyone else to lose on their upkeep. If yours comes first, just sundial the pact effect away.
I love hydras growth. I once had a roughly 3200 3200 city gahzi because of it. I sadly didn't win because I couldn't find a way to give it trample. My friend had a death touch creature so I couldn't attack and I was losing creatures to impending doom. That game made me hate deathtouch even more than before.
Why does Zaxara not get mentioned during infinite mana combos? Is it because it's a creature or is there something I'm just doing wrong by using mine as an infinite mana source.

Approach is super easy in a Varina deck. Cast Approach, swing in with 7 Zombies, recast Approach. All in the same turn.

For Simic Ascendancy it really helps as well if you have a Managorger Hydra or, in my opinion even better, if you have a Kalonian Hydra (that doubles its +1/+1 counters when it attacks) or Primordial Hydra that you just pay 10 into the X and by your next upkeep, you resolve first the hydra, then the ascendancy and bam, you win!

I love helix pinnacle in my Omnath the Locus of Mana deck. It's great to have something to dump your floating mana into Omnath gets removed and you can't flash him back into play in time.
I just realized a really powerful combo.
Body of study + simic ascendancy.
Body of study creates a 0/0 token w/ +1/+1 counters equal to the number of cards currently in your deck...
Approach works great with Fact or Fiction, especially in Zedruu. You basically get it back the next turn unless something tragic happens
The last win condition was my first commander deck strategy!
Revel in riches helped my little lad dominate a game at our local shop - not because he got the treasures but because the player whos turn was just before his was going to do a board wipe but then realised what would happen and so had to counter their own spell, my lad on his turn then pumped all his mana into a X cost deal X damage spell that knocked out 2 of 3 players as well as giving him the treasures. Basically if it hadn't been for revel they guy would have still had the counter spell.
Helix Pinnacle is in my Kruphix deck, almost exclusively as a way to dump my stored mana if Kruphix gets removed. It's not like I built my deck around Helix, but it just happens to synergize well with my deck. I can end up generating 100 mana pretty easily, even though I have no infinite mana combos in the deck (only ramp).

Approach of the Second Sun for me. One of my first ever PR Foil cards I got and it is still my best alternate win condition in my Arcades deck :)
I have a Darksteel reactor win con in my Vorel of the hull clade deck, it gets a counter at the beginning of your upkeep. if it has 20 counters you win the game. it doesn't have to be in your upkeep! yay, so vorel van double these counters turn 5 is gonna be 2 counters turn 6 is gonna be 6 counters turn 7 is going to be 14 and you basically win at turn 8 without any untap spell and if you have the reactor in your hand
I have dropped Revel in my Teysa deck and convinced the table that I would sacrifice treasures to below ten before I won. It's more fun that way.
Revival/Revenge is another budget life doubler at 6 Mana. Now I'm thinking about making a simic ascendency deck on arena lol. I've did it before, but it wasn't as good a few sets back without all the options now. Put a counter on incubation druid then taps for 5 Mana, 4 pelt collector, 4 growth chamber guardian, 3 evolution sage, 4 Nissas, 3 biogenic ooze, 2-3 leyline of abundance🤔 rize of vhitu ghazi puts 9 +1+1 counters on a land for 5 Mana as well
Epic Struggle (2GG Enchantment from Judgement). Easy wincon for critical mass of creatures like token-based strategies or elves.
I had a friend who played Revel in Riches on his turn, it then moved to another friend's turn and didn't realize he played that and played a board wipe to clear his field. I told them "Are you sure you want to do this?" They said yes and the first friend won the game on his turn since I had no way to stop it.
Maze's End. When land destruction is frowned upon and land ramp so easy to do.

My fav combo win win is in my Obosh deck that I call "Bloody Merchant". Get Obosh out, use Epicure of Blood, followed by Gray Merchant.

I've always considered felidar sovereign a "practical loss" card, or "losing with bragging rights" . What happens when you play felidar sovereign? Everybody else at the table says "cool, you are now out of the game, we'll keep on playing for second place, congrats"
What happens when you lose? Same thing. "Cool, you're out of the game, we'll keep playing for first place, better luck next time"

The best deck I've ever made and is funny when I win is my mazes is the world. It runs 77 lands and most utility. It uses tunnel vision or hermit druid to dump most if not all your library to the graveyard and uses splendid reclamation to get all the lands back. Then stall with counterspells or glacial chasm to stop board whips and maybe even a Teferi's Protection to stop spot removal. It runs a lot of extra land plays and land recursion. Oh and because the deck runs almost all lands you'll be board whipping ever turn. Then win comes out of nowhere and the combo takes a lot of mana to get off without a hitch, but by now I think you'll have enough of it.
A new answer to the question, which is the weakest additional colour? So not mono-white, but instead any (combination of) colour(s) + the colour in question. Sure it's a way more complex question. But e.g. in my decks, red is often just 3 or 4 cards. These cards do certain jobs especially well, but you have to fix one additional colour just for that.
aproach of the secondsun is also easyer to put in if you copy that spell, cause the card says: if he was cast from your hand you win, doesnt matter if the copy doesnt... oh and your copy will allways go first xD

Helix Pinnacle in an Omnath Locus of Mana Deck... just store up your mana and then right before your turn put 100 counters onto it and bam. one of the guys in my old play group had a deck that was Omnath Locus of Mana, 98 Forests and elfhame sanctuary. it did unnervingly well, even against decks with mass land destruction. it wouldnt have been too hard for him to take out a forest and put HP in xD maybe even generated horizons too
I’ve won one game with Simic Ascendency. It’s in my Pir/Toothy deck, and if I do much as look at it it gets counters lol. Glad that it requires nothing but my commander to make viable, but if I have hardened scales out it only requires 4 triggers and it’s set. I know it doesn’t work in competitive and I bum hard when it’s destroyed but might protect other enchantments. It requires action.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the Approach of the Second Sun and Narset's Reversal combo.
Easiest alternative win condition is the alternative loss condition. Run all the pacts, a sundial of the infinite and "end the turn" effects. Once you get out your enchantment that copies spells for all players, you play as many pacts as you need to force everyone else to lose on their upkeep. If yours comes first, just sundial the pact effect away.
Pretty sure Hardened Scales wont add a second growth counter since it replaces the 1 counter with 2/. It's still one instance, but I could be wrong

Emergence Zone is a budget one time Orrery that makes many of these wins easier.
Corpsejack Menace and Hydra's Growth work well with Simic Ascendancy.
I love hydras growth. I once had a roughly 3200 3200 city gahzi because of it. I sadly didn't win because I couldn't find a way to give it trample. My friend had a death touch creature so I couldn't attack and I was losing creatures to impending doom. That game made me hate deathtouch even more than before.

Surprised you didn't bring up some of the others from the Odyssey cycle. Epic Struggle and Mortal Combat can also be pretty easy.
Why does Zaxara not get mentioned during infinite mana combos? Is it because it's a creature or is there something I'm just doing wrong by using mine as an infinite mana source.
mirrodin besieged is one of the easier alt wins since it triggers on your end step. So many games won with my emry artifact deck this way.
