I just bought a 2014 Malibu LS with 100k. Drove great on the test drive and now the transmission is slipping really badly. But it’s going to the dealer and I most likely will have to pay $100 max for a new transmission so I can’t complain. Car is great otherwise.
I could never trust a review from the guy in Gray. He is far too extreme and my 2013 LT Malibu is hot looking in black, with this fawn leather interior, the ride is like a Cadillac, anyone who rides in it comments about it and I've got 15, 000 miles now. I love the large size of the car and by the way, the seats are enormously comfortable, and heated also. At night, it has blue ambient lighting and looks like the inside of a Airbus. I love this car and still stare at it when approaching! Great design inside and out. Furthermore, others must agree and disagree with the idiot in the gray sweater. This car is being sold ALL OVER THE PLANET.
I just bought the Malibu..and i love this car! best car i have ever had..and it's prolly one of the sharpest cars i have ever laid eyes on!! love it! go chevy!! God bless ya!
187278 I know, he’s like “it’s disgusting” well you know what else it disgusting, you’re face! Like he doesn’t know any styling at all just look at what he’s wearing! Must be an old ford grandpa 😂,
Just bought this car (2LZ). Traded my 2012 VW Passat 3.6 SEL Premium. The 2LZ Malibu is by far the better vehicle of the two - the Malibu has a more comfortable ride, steering is more direct, suspension is tight and but not too stiff. The Passat has the largest back seat I've seen in this segment - and I miss that. But for ALL else, the Malibu 2LZ fills the role it was meant to. Gas mileage of 31 mpg hwy with this much power! It's ashamed Chevrolet isn't marketing this vehicle properly.
I loved the styling the first time I saw it. Especially the front end. I love the interior as well. I do prefer the 2014 Malibu Turbo though. I like that it now has 295 LBFT of torque, I like the front end refresh, and I like all the other improvements they made and the new features added as well. I do like the styling of the Fusion, and I know it's a nice car because I rented one, but I would never buy a car that basically everyone and their mother owns. I can't even drive down to the store without seeing 2-3 Fusions along the way. I don't like owning a car that so many other people own. For every Malibu I see, I see at least 10 Fusions. For me that's no good. I see the Malibu LTZ Turbo even less often than the regular Malibu. While driving the extremely common Fusion I'd feel like just another number (instead of a person) driving their metal coffin around like every other Fusion owner lol. No offense to Fusion owners, that was not my intention. It's hard to explain through typing.
Bought my black 2013 Chevy Malibu LTZ in 2016 and loved the car to death. Sold it with only 63k miles on it. Beautiful car. Only issue I had was pot holes and the 19” wheels.
Alex should work for Consumer Reports . If there is an American car , they bash it. His comments remind me of that type of thing. I don't see how he can say something like you wouldn't put this type of design in your house so it doesn't belong in a car. That is ridiculous . A car is a car and a house is a house. Would you design your house to look like a Mini? Of course not. But it is great in a car. I can see his point about the price, but to me almost all cars are too expensive. I wouldn't spend $35000 on any car. I get nice used cars for less than half the price of a new one. American wages have stagnated and car prices are way ahead of them. If this keeps up we are going to look like Havana with everyone patching up 50 year old cars.
"For 35 Grand you can get a loaded Accord or Camry, I mean loaded to the hills" That LTZ is loaded to the hills and your right around the 35k mark with HID's, push button start, Nav, LED taillights. Dude, way to harsh on the Malibu. It's a solid car
that's why Dave took him off negative Nancy they should have called him plus Dave has the voice and better detail work when showing the details of a vehicle great vids Dave keepem coming
That guy was way to harsh. The malibu is a great looking car inside and out. I plan on buying one (ltz model) of course in the near future. And who compares car interiors to home interiors? I'm just saying.
Uhhhh...Dave was completely unbiased. Alex...not so much. A good car review needs a little bit of griping, but he took it over the top. This is a sporty and awesome car, just as good as any other and he acted like it was from the fricking stone age.
I'm not a Chevy fan as I'm more of a luxury/entry-luxury buyer, but this car gets a thumbs up from me, and especially for the styling. I think it looks great. To me, the comparable Accord turns me off inside and out, and the Camry, not a chance for a spot in my garage, I'd never be seen in one. However, if I were in the market for a midsize run of the mill vehicle, I'd absolutely consider this. Looks pretty sharp to me, but that's just me.
I don't mind the harsh reviews. I prefer reviewers to passionately like/dislike something rather than trying to sit on the fence and commentate with dull neutral voices because they're trying to be "objective". Let's not kid ourselves ok? There is no such thing as an objective review. Every review, professional or amateur, is an opinion i.e. subjective. What separates good reviews from the bad ones is, how well can you support your claims and articulate your points. These guys do a good job
I bought a new 74 Chevy Vega which promptly fell apart in about 6 months. Chevrolet did not honor the guarantee. Chevrolet screwed me and would probably do it again. I have not purchased a Chevy since.
Fusion Titanium, just got it. Love everything about it, especially the styling & performance. My previous car was a loaded 2010 Maxima & Titanium wins hands down. It also has more rear & trunk space than the Maxima without making the car any bigger and controls are better too, especially at night. Feels like I'm driving a fighter jet. 10 of 10 for Titanium!
Great review. I was surprised by how little space the car has in the back seat. The car appears so big from the outside. Another point is the price. An Acura TSX, Audi A4, fully loaded Accord, Camry, etc really appears to be more worth it.
Alex has a right to hate this car. The interior styling is a combination of gimmicky and dated. I rather like the back end but the front is fugly, esp. that big gold Chevy cross. He was totally right about it being overpriced, despite the fine engine. The choice between this and a fully loaded Accord is a no brainer. The big fault I find with Alex is the adjective "pretty," which seems to be the only one he knows.
i disagree with guy who thought its ugly car . i really don't think its ugly at all .the body width is compatible to the tires width don't matter the wheels/Rims diameter size . so the overall look exterior and interior. looks really nice. my concern here. is about Reliability. to anyone who own this car how does it stands regarding Reliability. this is very important to me because i'm buying it so it's going to be long term ownership. thank you guys .
@WNYfellow, great points all around, thank you. I hope you give my more recent car reviews a look. I promise they are more balanced and professional in nature - Dave
As Alex pointed out, for that kind of money you can buy either an Accord Touring with V6 (which, BTW, gets better fuel economy than the Malibu's turbo) or a new Mazda6 Grand Touring (and, possibly, with the SkyActiv-D diesel). Both of these are far more stylish than the Malibu. While Alex may have gone a bit overboard with his comments, he spoke truth.
For the money the Bu' is a great value. Alloys on the base model is unfounded in imports (and I drive a subaru) Went test driving a few weeks ago and fell in love with the LS, would have taken that over the 2012 legacy I drove.
The review you gave is very professional and I like your approach. This is a handsome car, and GM has gone up a whole notch in terms of fit and finish as compared to the past. Whether you like the car or not, the quality of GM has improved. My complaint is that at $28k, you can get a V6 Honda Accord.
I like it. I looked at this and a passat at the auto show and though the passat was too boring. I like the interior in the malibu (except for the overuse of chrome.) What really sells me is the engine.
I take issue with the assertion that the 259hp Ecotec" ..is the most powerful sedan, essentially in it's class...": I cite the Accord, Camry, Altima, and Passat each boasting an optional v6 with more than 259hp. If we're comparing only 4-pots, then the 1-2 punch of Hyundai/Kia's Sonata & Optima tick-in with 274hp/269lbs. of torque. Having owned/sold an 09 Malibu, I can say from experience that GM hasn't fully learned their lesson about building cars to a quality standard, not a price-point.
I have a 2008 Malibu and I agree that they messed up the new one. I got mine for $13,250 and very low miles. Drives like new and looks great in black. I hate the 2013 rear end. It is totally out of proportion with the rest of the vehicle.
So Alex doesn't like the Malibu. Woop di dam doo! I'm a happy owner of a 2013. No matter how hard you try, someone, somewhere, will hate your (blank). Not everyone is gonna like the 2013 Malibu, but I sure do.I bought one(LTZ so badass) I'm more concerned with the shirt you wore in the Rear View Mirror about the Malibu.(youtube will not allow linking even to youtube in their comments so look it up, people. RVM Honda vs Malibu) That is a scary shirt, Alex!!! Keep on Keepin on
Really weird how he says the center stack is fine, yet I find it utterly hideous. Also, I really love the styling on the exterior especially for the 2014 model.
I agree. I don't see what he finds ugly in the car either, except for the wood trim...the wood trim I'm not going for, but everything else looks awfully nice for a Chevy.
Are we talking the 2014 Accord? I could swear I saw a C&D review recently that called the Accord "an appliance" and that "cost cutting was obvious" "suspension, engine, transmission, etc" Maybe I saw the '13 review, but I could swear that was their impression. My own impression of an Accord is that it's the 90's thing to do lol. (buying one). I still prefer the Malibu interior. Don't ask me why, I just think it looks more classy and is antithetical to Honda's "I'm trying but not making it" look.
@ 3:16 look at eyes of the guy in the passenger side i think they mentioned his name is alex .when he blinks his left eyes are blinking but his right eye isnt....he looks weird but he does have a cool last name
I think Alex is a little harsh. I like the styling of the 2013. I will agree with Alex the the seating accommodations are tighter than the previous Malibu. I owned a 2010 Malibu the front and rear seats were wider and more comfortable on long trips. I owned the 4 cyl and the mileage was respectable. I think GM was trying to make a more aggressive looking vehicle to appeal to a younger crowd..
Kinda funny & awkward...I came to this video looking for opinions on the 13 Malibu as I'm considering getting one. The funny part is that I'm also from Spokane, WA. The awkward part is that I know exactly what road was being driven on. If you say that it feels comfortable on that road, then it must be comfortable.
a real nice car, now also available here in Germany! But too bad, the Malibu has the new (US-made) refrigerant r1234yf inside, which is supposed to be very dangerous. For this reason, major German brands like Mercedes Benz and BMW do not use it until now. For that I do not think many people will buy a vehicle equipped with this here in Germany for only this reason! The EU will bring a final statement if its dangerous or not after running tests this summer.
I love Audi! In the last 44 years? I'm not sure what you're asking. I have need for a rugged vehicle now...RV'er. I've driven many, my family has owned TOO many. I'm a gear-head, and set a bad example?! To me, there is more to a car than the looks...service, durability, etc. GM has screwed their dealers (family member is one), and their country. I agree they're improving their cars...not their integrity (quality?). Bottom line...many great cars, and choices for us all, from great companies!
The pricing is rather high on this Malibu, but I'd never in a million years call an Accord "refined" ... The Accord has taken some hits lately for cost cutting, antiquated suspension and poor power train choices.
I think they should have done better with the sportier power plant to give it sportier seats that are going to hold you better, they seem too flat for the spirited drivers who would take advantage of the turbo. I do agree that chevy needs to step away from couping the rooflines in their passenger cars. As for restyling after 18 months they irritated everyone by only releasing the eco for the first year 30 grand for a 'bu is a bit insane considering its supposed to be smaller than the impala
This car has great looks, both inside and out; except for the poorly integrated tail lights and the mish-mash of color contrast material. And the cramped interior space is definitely a let down. Other than that this Malibu is not as bad as most reviews would have people believe. So the biggest improvements GM needs to focus on is the MPG ratings, interior space and the driving dynamics.
The interior in the new Malibu also looks well tailored as compared to the cheapness that is evident in the Japanese and German competition. It is no wonder I see them all over the road whenever I leave the house. It's like everyone is seeing the USA in their Chevrolet all over again! Chevrolet is the only one there with real Italian leather gracing the door panels and dashboard too. The others used cheap plastic.
the cars okay. i agree with some of his negatives, just not in the way he presents them. thats way this channel is 2 or 3 notches below some of the other auto channels. time for a cast upgrade. As far as the car. the interior is busy and a step behind other brands which is surprising considering how good the previous Malibu was. Especially the exterior design. The tail lights and rear were clean and distinctive on the last. The new one is busy.
in the last 44 years, really? Obviously it is not the same case for 21 century. I wish that you drive more 2012/2013 cars before this comment. We used to have a 2012 Altima (I've also driven a 2012 Maxima for a month) And I gotta say that I will drive this Malibu over the Altima and Maximas in any day. You don't rank cars by their makes. you rank em by their models. My car is a 2012 Audi A4 2.0T - when i got to drive that 2013 Malibu im like damn this Chevy is in some ways better than my Audi
Alex, i agree with you on the interior, Chevorlet what were you thinking by putting a whole lot of fake wood with tons of chrome with beige and cocoa stiching!? come on Chevy, you this is a rental car practically
I thought that the interior looked awesome as well as the exterior. I would take this over the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord or the Nissan Maxima ANY DAY OF THE WEEK!
Actually I'm not a fan of the car at all But I did like the honest review that Alex made and I couldn't agree more the interior looks like a Hyundai from five or six years ago
I love them too! I don't think people have enough constructive conversations about reviews like these! :-) At any rate, I know C&D definitely said those things, I just don't remember which year ('13 or '14), but I know it was at least the '13. They honestly didn't paint a flattering picture of it, and as far as aesthetics, I truly just don't feel it. I did, however, get a kick out of your critique of the Malibu interior. haha. I didn't agree, but still laughed out loud and liked your boldness.
I beg to differ the camry exterior styling is fine not as great as a fusion or optima however it does look better than the accord and legacy and as good as the new accord. The interior needs more work but its managable.
How can you not like the styling of this car, ...... It's beautiful and don't just put the car like that just because you don't like the styling. You could be a big impact on someone who wants to buy this car and saying this could hurt GM's sales for people that can't form their own opinions.
Friec says he likes the engine, steering, ride/handling, chassis, the driving experience. You know, must have essential attributes of really good cars. Then calls it a "shitbox" because the styling doesn't blow his skirt up.
I have to disagree big time with Alex in regards to the styling. The styling is one of its strong points. The problems with this car is its pricing and mpg of the non Eco models. The back seat? No problem there except for very tall people like Alex, he will have probs with other cars, especially the Sonata and Altima. The pricing is a killer and media bias has hit this car unfairly.
Isn't it fair to say though that they're just a bit late in getting on that stuff? What they were peddling last year (or the year before or whatever) was tantamount to pushrods and 4 speeds in terms of what everyone else has been offering since 2007-2008. I'm glad they're catching up, I'm just taken aback by how slow on the uptake they've been.
Bought a Malibu and it is still going great. My passengers enjoy it as well. Shame it was stopped in that shape.
My 2013 Malibu LTZ is a beautiful car. 150,000 miles and going strong. Still get compliments on the car.

THE GUY IN THE GREY SHIRT I DO NOT AGREE WITH HIM AT ALL..the malbu is a great car

Love my Malibu LT2. Watched this review then went and drove one for myself and made my own decision.
I have a 2010. I have loved it. I am at 43,000 miles now, and have had zero issues.
I loved the styling the first time I saw it. Especially the front end. I love the interior as well. I do prefer the 2014 Malibu Turbo though. I like that it now has 295 LBFT of torque, I like the front end refresh, and I like all the other improvements they made and the new features added as well. I agree with Alex. GM prides themselves on slapping together cars for an expensive price
Bought my black 2013 Chevy Malibu LTZ in 2016 and loved the car to death. Sold it with only 63k miles on it. Beautiful car. Only issue I had was pot holes and the 19” wheels.

@Don, Alex has moved on. Please watch my newer reviews - Dave
Thank god Alex has moved on. He was worthless and extremely over opinionated.
Thank you for your feedback and please know that I have been listening to the suggestions by our subscribers. Dave
That guy was way to harsh. The malibu is a great looking car inside and out. I plan on buying one (ltz model) of course in the near future. And who compares car interiors to home interiors? I'm just saying.
Who is that guy kidding? The interior is fantastic! And the exterior is bold! This is a teenager talking!!!
I lost all respect for the guy when he said he would take a HONDA ACCORD over that. The car is gorgeous, GM is making a comeback with this car.
Uhhhh...Dave was completely unbiased. Alex...not so much. A good car review needs a little bit of griping, but he took it over the top. This is a sporty and awesome car, just as good as any other and he acted like it was from the fricking stone age.
I am from the UK. And love the interior styling. The instrument panel is awesome.
Fuck all that, this car is awesome

that one guy clearly is not impartial... everything he "hates" I actually liked a lot

Personally I’ve had the 2012 Ford Fusion and now I have the 2013 Malibu lt and the Malibu sedan is definitely better. The hating guy is hilarious 😭😂
The passenger doesn't know what car he's in. This car is amazing in comparison to the last 3 generations.
Agreed. I REALLY like the interior, the colors, etc (minus the woodgrain).
Every one crys about the 2 tone.. I got all black everything. Gold exterior.. I get complements all the time

Totally your opinion spike. This car is MUCH more stylish than the fusion
i would like to have heard more about NVH over rough pavement. road noise levels on coarse pavement.
I like it. I looked at this and a passat at the auto show and though the passat was too boring. I like the interior in the malibu (except for the overuse of chrome.) What really sells me is the engine.
Bought my 2015 for 11.5 otd, came with the 2.5 and beat a v6 challenger and handles way better than the mid 2000s impala

we got the 2014 ltz same color it looks amazing

For the price of this car you can get a 2013 Ford Fusion AWD, a turbo with 240 hp and killer looks inside and out.
@chrisak49, The only clarification I would add is this ... "It's the most powerful DOMESTIC midsize sedan with 259 HP" - Dave
I like the Malibu Ltz and the cruze Ltz what do you think I should do.
a real nice car, now also available here in Germany! But too bad, the Malibu has
the new (US-made) refrigerant r1234yf inside, which is supposed to be very
dangerous. For this reason, major German brands like Mercedes Benz and BMW
do not use it until now. For that I do not think many people will buy a vehicle equipped with this here in Germany for only this reason! The EU will bring a final statement
if its dangerous or not after running tests this summer.
I have a 2.5lt malibu lt. n its awsome it feels great when riding runs smooth its the best car i ever had go GM great job!!
Ur welcome Alex :), i do to, GM really needs to not mess up like this again if they want to stay in buisness
The pricing is rather high on this Malibu, but I'd never in a million years call an Accord "refined" ... The Accord has taken some hits lately for cost cutting, antiquated suspension and poor power train choices.
hey Dave leasing a 2016 ltz 1lz malibu is that a good choice 4 / 48 months and will it last are they dependable vehicles
Hows the stock tires from 2015 to a couple years back in the Malibu? Anyone that owns one that driven in the snow and ice that knows?
Will the cubby hole fit a subcompact 9 mm? Asking for a friend.
The others used cheap plastic.
what size aftermarket lug-nuts do you use when changing size 20' 2014/chevy/Malibu/ltz
the cars okay. i agree with some of his negatives, just not in the way he presents them. thats way this channel is 2 or 3 notches below some of the other auto channels. time for a cast upgrade. As far as the car. the interior is busy and a step behind other brands which is surprising considering how good the previous Malibu was. Especially the exterior design. The tail lights and rear were clean and distinctive on the last. The new one is busy.
Soon as you said muscle car status. I lost it.
in the last 44 years, really?
At any rate, I know C&D definitely said those things, I just don't remember which year ('13 or '14), but I know it was at least the '13.
They should review the Chevrolet Sonic LTZ. Great car and design for the price!
I honestly wonder how many adults spend time in the backseats of any car. I doubt the percentage is very high.
Friec says he likes the engine, steering, ride/handling, chassis, the driving experience. You know, must have essential attributes of really good cars. Then calls it a "shitbox" because the styling doesn't blow his skirt up.
Great reviews, guys! I'm now subscribed and will wait (not so) patiently for a review of the VW GTI.
The E in EPS stands for electric and not electronic, these are two different things. In most cases, you wouldn't call a kettle electronic, would you?
Alex=biased
Ok Alex go get in your Bentley sorry but your not a EVERY DAY driver
I have to disagree big time with Alex in regards to the styling. The styling is one of its strong points. The problems with this car is its pricing and mpg of the non Eco models. The back seat? No problem there except for very tall people like Alex, he will have probs with other cars, especially the Sonata and Altima. The pricing is a killer and media bias has hit this car unfairly.
Does Alex ever stop talking and interrupting you.
Great weather for a road test, eh?
Jesus the guy in the grey shirt needs to be fired. I hate GM. But he made this car look like it’s absolutely awful. It’s not that bad
Alex you must had a fight with your boyfriend before doing this review the car is beautiful and now it's going for a reasonable price
+J Rock The interior is simply awful. I feel like puking a little right now....hold on I'm headed to the toilet to puke
So what about the killer refrigerant 1234f now? Nobody would buy a car equipped
with in the AC this days here in Germany!!
