The line kept breaking inside the head on my new fs70, was pretty frustrating and after the 3rd time I just grabbed my old Echo to finish the job. Thankfully I was testing the fs70 on my property before going to my clients properties. I will be replacing the 27-2 with the Echo Speed Feed head.
Thanks for this! Looking to replace my current trimmer and I found one I like but I've never used one with this load method before. Your video was super helpful and definitely helped make my decision.
@@carlsmowerandsaw I have an old Black and Decker electric with a single string auto feeder. It's to the point now where it's cutting me more than the grass and the spool feeder falls apart faster than I can get replacements. Lol Just replaced the spools, the spool cover, the feeder and the guard and the feeder already broke after 1 use. Time to put the poor thing out of it's misery. Lol
Great info. Could you advise me. I want to replace the non tap feed head that is on my Stihl FS220 with one of these but I dont know which model number I need. Thanks so much
This was the most easiest i saw after i keep frustrating myself cutting the string first then rapping to put in the hole the string keep getting slack one day i just slam down everything THANKS VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP
My 27-2 is no easier to open. As a matter of fact, it is harder to push buttons. Followed your directions and cannot get the reel to go in and string to lock into the exit opening
I agree! I despise this head! It is hard to bend the line to get it to stay in the holes. I watched the other video about lining the 0.95 holes up but don’t feel like it is going to work. What does auto cut mean? I’m new to weed trimming. Going to get some new string and try not using as much string as Stihl or Ace did to load it like Josh shows in the video and see if it works better. I bought mine already assembled and the string just kept breaking.
do you know if that new spool with the metal bottom has been released yet and the sthil part # for it. my dealer in town says he has never heard of it and wants to sell me a junk head I don't want or need. i just need that spool you were talking about the heavy-duty one, if you had a sthil part # would be even better. thank you so much
@@carlsmowerandsaw thank you so so so much, i have a fs50 c and I swaped out the shaft from an old fs 81 just to get my old head back just because I want this spool and been waiting on it for then to release it now. again thank you.
How can you add the string to both holes next to each other when it says 095 and 105 don't you have to match them in the right holes, I just bought the fs251r and it came with this head and the string would bust off in less than a minute with that cheap orange line that comes with it plus I had to drimel the sharp edge on the eyelet and put on some Rotary vortec 105 line and it cuts good now
@knightimusprime25 yeah I think that's right. I bought a brand new roll and soaked it in water for a few days. It helped but still was breaking. I got another roll of the Stihl premium orange and black string and haven't had a single break since.
I bought a brand new FS 91R one month ago, have used it twice and both times it does nothing but break the string off in the head. I replaced it with an Echo Speed Feed...works great! Stihl needs to run their products before they put them in production! Shame on Stihl
@@carlsmowerandsawit does work great and it’s durable, but echo speed feed head is life changing as a landscaper. It’s worth having to buy a couple a year to not have to string stihls head in 100 degrees
Coming from echo - this is the biggest fail ive seen in a long time. Head fails to feed, line breaks in head, remove head, respool. Ive never wasted this much time respooling and getting the trimmer to feed. I like stihl chainsaws but i will never buy another stihl trimmer after this. Worst design in a long time.
I totally disagree with this…as an avid Stihl products user…I believe Stihl surpasses all brands in every category since day 1…and I can base this solely off longevity…I’ve had and used a total of 3 Stihl straight shaft weed eaters…my family are loggers…the first one lasted around 16 years…(my cousin used it before me)…that finally blew up…bought another one…I used it atleast 8-10 years until my Grandparents divorced and gpops took it…that was back in 2007…we are on the 3rd one that was purchased maybe within the last 5-7 years…had an echo..lasted maybe 3 years…it vibrated heavily…nowhere near the power of Stihl…and weedeater heads are $30…😂…so I’m not sure the basis of this opinion…but opinions are like assholes…we all have them…some even stink…
@coriereynolds4145 it's just my experience with buying echo and stihl weedeaters. Ymmv - I don't think that invalidates my experience. Buying a premium product to immediately have to replace the head to function seems undesirable for most consumers.
BEWARE DO NOT BUY THIS HEAD OR UNTI WITH THIS HEAD!!!! Bought a brand new stihl with this head on it today. 5 times in a row this thing will not feed. Its utter engineering GARBAGE! returning the entire unit Monday - disappointing POS!
Looks great, my new FS91 came with this head. It's supposed to auto feed? It's a terrible design IMO, on first attempt using I had to take apart 4 times and unspool the line, super frustrating to say the least on a brand new machine. Maybe it's the factory's fault or the dealer or whoever wound it? Also, the trimmer motor seems to bog like crazy, barely runs... Do I need to adjust something to allow it to rev up so I can get some work done? Feels like it's holding back from it's true potential. Not impressed at all. Very underpowered for a $500 machine IMO. So far my $99 25 cc black and decker had more balls than the FS91... When you hit the throttle on it instantly revs full speed. Only limitation is no bump head. I will say the FS91 seems to cut a lot better though when there is actually string and it finally revs up... Thank you.
Good job...Just got my new STIHL FS-70 and this video is a lot better than photo manual in 36 languages...Lol good Job

Thanks. Stihl should add this to their website. They don't show the 27.2, and it's not in the manual!
Let’s work on that.

I just bought it. My line keeps breaking off inside the head. Happend like 6 times in my first 10 minutes of use. Any ideas why?
Replace the trimmer line with some fresh round stuff. Try that
buy an echo speed feed
