What's your favorite closing shot in movies? It can be overused nowadays, but I love the look in the camera type when it's used right, Psycho and Memories of Murder gives me chills, Anthony Perkins' and Song Kang-ho's performance are both brilliant.
I think a long ending shot focused on one character basically gives you the last emotion they're feeling. From that emotion, the director trusts you as the audience to understand the message of the film and their journey, and use your knowledge to deduce whether or not the character in focus understood it as well.
Hey, I'm just watching through all your videos and I happened to remember a great yet underrated final closing shot. The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, and his haunting final gaze straight at the audience.
I always loved the closing shot from "White Hunter Black Heart"(1990) directed by Clint Eastwood. You must really see the film for yourself to get it. It's nothing special in cinematic terms, but it's a brilliant idea.
The memories of murder one was cold asf, Didnt the killer said that he did saw the movie when he was asked after getting arrested. Kang-Ho did stared at the killer in the end.
A bit of constructive feedback from creator to creator: I thought that this video had a terrific premise and I was very excited to watch it. In the end, though, I felt a bit disappointed, because the treatment of the individual endings was far too short for each one, and too superficial. I think that this video essay would have been more impactful and satisfying if you expanded it to at least double its length and discussed perhaps fewer endings, but more in depth, perhaps also discussing music, transitions, framing of the last shot and other aspects that might provide insight into the emotional impact of particular endings. As it was, to me it felt like a trailer for a video essay, rather than the whole thing. Like the text was more an outline of what one could discuss, rather than the full discussion. It was still very interesting, but left me wanting more. Thanks!
Man, how do you find those movie scenes, documentaries, and interviews you use in your videos? I want to start making videos about cinema too. Can you help me out?
I don't think there were many comedies here, which best end with a punchline. Serial Mom and Some Like It Hot come to mind. Like romances, these tend to be two-shots, but instead of a kiss there's action/reaction.

Thank you, I also remembered that while writing this video, but I left that one out for some reason in the end.
Aftersun’s closing shot is probably my favorite ever.

memories of murder left me in the sense of the feeling how art can touch your beliefs
I immediately thought about the ending of The Revenant. The last direct look into the camera is chilling.
Loved this, excellent work.
Great video. Very underrated channel. Keep going!!!!!

thanks..nice work :) keep it up..greetings from germany
Blood Debts (1985) has the best ending imo: an abrupt freeze frame with triumphant music and text on screen.

Thank you for the feedback! I didn't think about it this way but I can see what you mean. I could have gone more in-depth for sure.
Another banger 👍👍
Great video. How's it only got 303 likes as I write this comment? Liked the gangster/food one too. Keep up the good work.
one can argue that fight club might have the best wide shot closing scene.
That's one of my personal favorites as well, especially with the soundtrack
Great video , keep it upp !!!!!
