I hadn't picked up guitar in a few years (struggle with carpal tunnel bit usually), but got the itch to learn a song the other day. Got it at about 3/4 speed, so still learning, but I got to wondering what you were up to and watched your strumming videos again and realized every time I do strumming - which is pretty programmed (I never think about what pattern I'm doing anymore) - almost all of that information comes from your videos, which I watched almost 10 years ago. Thanks for all the lessons you put out. They're awesome.

Mark! I miss your older videos without all the jumpcuts. You are the best teacher on the internet, slow it down a tad so we can absorb your awesome instruction.

As a terrible guitar player, I have completed your blues guitar breakthrough and first two beginner guitar courses on Jamaramma. I really appreciate all the work you put into teaching us. I am now working through the one hour work out drills. My goal is to complete the rest of Jamaramma over the next two months and book a lesson with you to start learning a few songs. Mark, why are there so many types of tab on the internet? Can you do some lessons or a video to help me better understand what I am trying to read when I look up a song on the internet?

Immediately recognized that opening riff as Johnny B. Goode, and I 100% agree
That was one of the first songs I learned starting to play, and I would have got absolutely nowhere rushing through it
    Can't rush practice!
Glad to see the regular content back on UA-cam, keep it coming!

Twenty reps if you are extremely talented. Most people should do at least 500 or 5000 reps.
I can't not pick up my guitar every day. So addicted!

I was gonna say, 20 is not nearly enough for me to get the muscle memory down on guitar. I feel like I have to do a riff at least 100 times before I have it "down."

Ok, let's look at the other side of the equation. The things that music teachers do that annoy the students.
The first is sucking the fun out of playing the guitar. I had 2 teachers who wanted me to learn how to read music at the first lesson.
I got into the guitar because of the Blues. When I mentioned this both teachers looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language.
The next thing that annoys me is how small the room was that the teachers wanted me to have a lesson in. Barely big enough for 2 guitars.
When the pandemic started that's when I discovered online guitar lessons. I am never going back to the old way.

I thought I knew a piece once but when I tried to sing and play it everything fell apart and I had to go back and learn it on the subconscious level so I could multitask

Sorry Mark. I really like your approach to teaching guitar, and I've learnt a couple of things from it. AND I love that you're a fellow kiwi who's getting out there in the interwebs and making a difference. But I feel the need to share something that really annoys me as a viewer of youtube videos in general and this video in particular...
I GET the need for jump cuts. I really do. They can make life so much simpler for anyone who's trying to put these things together with limited time and limited budgets, and they can help make things punchier and packed in. But they can also be REALLY off-putting if overdone! And there are more in this video than I've seen in anything in quite some time.
No offence, mate, but maybe it's worth trying to get longer, coherent takes between cuts.. a little more time on pre and production and less chopping in post. Just a thought :-)

Hmmm, I didn't even notice the jump cuts. I know they are there, but actually the flow looks pretty organic. What annoys me is the recent convention of setting up two cameras, one straight on and the other way off on the profile, and cutting indiscriminately between the two. What's the f'ing point? Get these "directors" to a film course, pronto!
