- Let's throwback to the first cosplay I made! This Miraculous Ladybug cosplay was inspired by fanart from Tumblr way back in the day. It's held together with hot glue and a prayer, but I still love it.

Bro this still holds up really well six years later. And all the raw edges and imperfections are all underneath and out of sight. You should be very proud that you made this without much sewing experience because it came out really good!
Honestly, I agree! I will say though I remember a difficulty in 2017 being that I actually made the bodice WAY too big. Ironically it fit better in this video than it did in 2017!
I remember you "burning" your costume 😅😅😅. Your first homemade cosplay is still adorable. Hot glue and a dream are very important tools in our creative journey. 😂😊

literally almost all my cosplays are held together with my dreams 😭😭 i started work on my dream cosplay (strawberry x miku) and i need to make a hoop skirt for it since it’s a specific shape. Do i know how to make a hoop skirt? absolutely not. but i have a pile of hula hoops ready to be massacred and we’re just going to hope for the best

I made a charmander cosplay
I made the tail out of the cheap like sheet felt you can get at Walmart and stuffing, I sewed half of it and glued the rest. Then I got a tank top and glued more of that felt on that, bought orange shorts and made a hat out of a shirt with hot glue, and I made charmander eyes out of the felt and hot glued that to the hat. Literally just hot glue and dreams

Most of my cosplays are bought, or I thrifted items for it (like my Cooking Mama cosplay) so I've never really made one. But it's fun to see other's first forays into sewing!

This was honestly encouraging cause wee ole’ 17 year old me decided to start making a cosplay that’s going to be 80% Eva foam (a material I don’t have any adjacent skill set for) cause the character I want to be is a robot. It’ll probably will take a long time to make, but it’s a dream cosplay.

so true about learning by doing! my first ever costume i made completely from scratch was for zuko from avatar, but it was an armor version! it was, safe to say, a mess. the pattern was made from scratch but poorly measured, i didn’t know how to cut foam properly and i made his robe the night before the con by hot glueing it together and hoping no one noticed (which coincidentally was also in 2017!) 😭
now i’m working on my biggest build yet and nothing is more satisfying than seeing how much you’ve improved over time!
Chelle you inspire me so much. I haven't fully hand made a cosplay yet due to being afraid to mess up, or it's gonna be hella wonk and ugly. But your very first cosplay was adorable and the gloves are a clever hack. I might take a stab for next winters con to make something. If I do, you'll be the first to see

My first cosplay was also made in a dorm room! I made a Sakura from Naruto for Halloween and didn't have a sewing machine (or hot glue) so I just hand-sewed the whole thing.
My first made costume was Rikku from final fantasy. I decided to try and thrift and alter something. If you've ever seen final fantasy designs, you may notice they have very little if any resemblance to normal human clothes. So I get this terrible fast fashion stretchy top and just start sewing hardware to it, like actual metal buckles and such. Poor little stretch top was not built to hold the ludicrous amount of hardware these characters wear...nothing is left of this costume. I had to remake the whole thing.

I've only ever had two cosplays in my life so far but my first was a mess held together with duct tape, hot glue, and a dream. It was Joy from inside out, I loved Inside out and Joy specifically so much that I begged my mom to let me be her for Halloween. So my mom went to a local Dollar store, bought a large yellow T-shirt, a nasty looking blue wig, and got to work. Sure I looked like a fresh garbage fire, and absolutely nobody knew who I was supposed to be, but I loved my costume. And I was so happy that my mom made something just for me. Usually she was busy with work so it made me feel extra special. Especially after that she made me a dress to wear to a renaissance fair as a birthday present one year. But sadly she gave it away without telling me.
this is a great video thank u so much for showing us n giving us some insight on it !! i have yet to make my first homemade cosplay but i reallly wanna do ruby gloom for my first one n i even have my own design for the dress!! the only thing left to do is, start learning how to sew n get the materials

I enjoyed this video so much! My first cosplay was Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service. It wasn’t held together with hot glue ONLY because I had a nice neighbor with a sewing machine who helped me out. There were plenty of dreams involved, though! 😂

I’m doing my first cosplay soon…ordered it overseas with express shipping for my first con this upcoming Friday. Unfortunately the size chart says it would support my bust size, and it didn’t…I don’t have time to alter it so I’m trying to bind my chest until I can get it altered😭
