Engraved and Gilded frame

The frame is handplaned in pine wood and then it has been covered in several layers of gesso. Here the engraving starts, first with drawing up the lines of the desired pattern, and then the engraving is made with various woodcarving tools suitable for the pattern. When its done its colored and then gilded. In this case with metal leafs (gold imitation, brass leafs), and finaly being given a patina to give it its character. www.stockholmsforgyllning.com

Excellent film, always fascinating to watch. On many videos that are about or include handling metal leaf (including gold leaf), they shake the leaf from the book or try and move it with the knife and so on and I had always struggled and had failures as they seemed to but on seeing this video for the first time, i tried the 'put the knife on the leaf and blow' method used here and it works perfectly, every time.
My only criticism would be that when carving, hands are placed in front of the gouge where, if there were to be a slip....
