It’s amazing to see that you had a great experience, I’m 19 trying to find my dad and there’s been negativity from my family on branching out to find out who he is...just took my Ancestry DNA test hope I can find him.
I had a great experience because I ignored the negative. I only chose to be around those who were supportive. I hope you find a support system! (Even if it’s just friends.)
I did ancestry and found my dad after 27 years. Unfortunately he told me he didn’t want a relationship with me then blocked me on the site. It really stung.
So happy for you. I did the same thing almost 3 years ago. Unfortunately my dad had already passed away but I met my brother, grandparents, aunts uncles and cousins
@Sarpreet Kaur thank you so much. It has been such a blessing! I reached out to the highest match possible that I didn’t know and I was able to find her Facebook so I reached out on fb but you could also message them on ancestry too. Good luck!
I'm glad I fought to find out. Took 48 years but mystery solved. I agree with you there are people hiding truth and angry when you dig in. I'm glad I was persistent. I needed to know the truth.
I agree, it’s easy to say when you find out the man who brought you up is not your dad, you should just say , ah well and get on with your life. Unless you experience that, you don’t know how it feels. I tried, for 10 years to do that, but it was eating away at me until I just had to know who my real dad was, it’s part of who I am and I needed to know. So glad I did, so I found out and also have two more brothers and there is a possible third.
I like your attitude about it. Last year I found out that I have a child I did not know I had fathered 41 years before and AncestryDNA confirmed it. Now I'm wondering if I have another one or so out there. I'm currently awaiting results from 23andMe who says they're in the final stages. The child I mentioned was adopted in their country of birth and found out they were predisposed to a condition I'm afflicted with and was wondering if it was passed on to the offspring. Yes, it's been an emotional ride for a little over a year now. Imagine finding out that you fathered someone at 24 years of age and didn't know it AND they've made you a grandfather on the same day.🤯🤯 Tell your naysayers you're not trying to find out information for them because it's for you.
Wow, I am so happy for you. However. It's so many sites. None of these sites or DNA are cheap. However, it's important and only fair to find where we came from. What if none of the family from the person you are looking for took a DNA site? However, what information would you receive to connect with them? I took mine but it's been 2 months and it's still in 6 by the DNA company. How long will it take everyone?
Thank you! I tracked them down by process of elimination. I marked the closest relatives on the side I know and looked at there trees based on the relatives I knew nothing about. I plugged my downloaded results into Gedmatch.com to find more people. Gedmatch compiles info. From all sites. It took 5 months for my results to come back.
I made contact with who I believe is my aunt first. I was able to get my original birth certificate and got a name for my birth mother. Unfortunately she hadn’t responded to my messages. My “aunt” went radio silent when I gave her the detailed information I had at the time. I’m taking a break from reaching out to them but having a hard time finding my bio father. I have more information from his side but don’t know how to narrow down the possibility. Any tips on how I should proceed?
I think you should join the genetic detectives page on Facebook. They give you a lot of pointers on how to read your results and apply the results to your tree. I built a tree of my father side using Ancestry.com and plugged in my possible father guesses into the tree feature called “through lines.” My Dna Cm #’s never made sense until I found the correct father... Let me know how this goes for you. ☺️
Did I hear correctly: it took 10 years to find him after learning his last name? 🤔 How long did it take to learn his last name - & how did you find that out? 🤔 My late Dad had been adopted & I'm now on Ancestry trying to find out who my Paternal Bio-Grams & Bio-Gramps were - & it's looking to be a very difficult task at best; so, I can use some good advice if you have any for me. Note: the closest DNA-Match was billed by Ancestry as a 1st-to-2nd Cousin & she blocked me without answering my message. The other closest matches are billed as 2nd-to-3rd Cousins & the few who have responded state that they have no idea about my Dad's connection to their respective families. I'm getting some help from a 5th-to-8th Cousin, but being so far removed makes matters quite difficult... ...& to make things even tougher, Ancestry is billing some DNA-Matches with Common Ancestors as Paternal-Side matches yet showing Family-Tree Branches from my Maternal Side; &, Ancestry is showing some Maternal-Side DNA-Matches with links to my Adoptive-Paternal Family Tree Branches (& I definitely have my Maternal/Paternal DNA divisions labeled correctly). 🤪 It's difficult to make heads or tails out of all this mess; so, any decent suggestions are welcome.
It took me some time because my mom was deceased and there was no way to see maternal/paternal matches when I tested. You should seek out a search angel on facebook. They have so much experience with all types of scenarios. You can build a tree and use possible matches to see if the cams make senses in different situations. You can also use through lines to make a pseudo tree. If she blocks on Ancestry try Ged Match to see if you have any close matches on that site. If I have some more things I can think of I’ll reply to this message…
20 yrs ago at my job I received a letter stating my mom cheated on my dad and my dad wasn't my father, it was signed a friend. Never believed it cause I look like my dad. Took an ancestry dna last year and turns out my dad Is my dad. Still don't know what petty person sent out that letter.
I uploaded my Ancestry results in to other sites like Myheritage and Gedmatch for free. I was able find enough of his close relatives to find him. Join Genealogy Search Angels group on Facebook they have some great resources.
I am sure that my dad is my biological though growing up I didn’t think we looked alike at 15 someone commented on how much we did then I started noticing facial features I shared with a paternal 1st cousin and I couldn’t recognize my voice on an answering machine it sounded so unlike how I thought I sounded. Then one day my son mockingly repeated something I said and I replied I don’t talk like that but my dad did so that sealed the deal. I took the DNA 🧬 to discover if I have hidden siblings or offspring waiting on the results…… now it would be wild if even with all the similarities dad wasn’t my bio 😃
Wow this is how I felt about the dad I grew up with…I loved him so much! We had so many similar attributes. I was shocked to find out he wasn’t my dad but he actually resembled him. I hope your test comes back the way you hope it will. Keep me posted 😉
How did you get a search angel I've asked on Facebook nothing My husband's waiting 66 years find out it's a long story I said thing is there's an account on ancestry that says who his father is it's a fake account then there's one on my heritage and then he did a DNA with my heritage with no results
I searched and 2 people volunteered to help the page was called DNA Search Angels Aotearoa NZ. Even if his GM father isn’t in the sites, he can find out who his family is…thank you!

I did ancestry and found my dad after 27 years. Unfortunately he told me he didn’t want a relationship with me then blocked me on the site. It really stung.
I'm sorry that happened to you. I hope you have found peace with the fact that you tried…
So sorry to hear that. 😔

Thank you, that’s awesome you were able to meet your family 😊. My dad passed too but thank God I actually knew him…

Wow! I’m glad you did too! So persistent to hide but it always comes to the light.
Thanks. Its necessary to know because when you go to the doctor they ask what runs in your family to administer the right medicine.
Definitely, I inadvertently lied for years I didn’t know 🤷🏽♀️.
That’s amazing that you actually found your family! Congrats on that 🤎
Thank you❣️Hard work paid off 🥰
Wow that’s great. Happy for you.😊
Thank you 💕

That's awesome Julie! I can totally relate. It's easy for people that know both parents to say it's not a big deal, but it really is...
Es tu familia. La naturaleza es la ley.
❤❤❤congratulations in finding your father and his family!
Thank you 😊

That is exciting . I’ve heard so many mixed reviews about the different ones. But I’ve heard best about Ancestry . Thanks for sharing your experience
Thank you 😍 I think I’ve taken them all but it was worth it❗️

Can tell that the results caused lots of emotions. Good job informing us about the process.
I’ve always been suspect about these but your video gave me a little more clarity. I’m so glad you shared your journey! Thanks!
Thank you,❤️ all our info. is in these streets now. 😩 I’m going to show my ethnicity surprises next time.
Iam glad you had a positive experience congrats.
Thank you

23 and me lied to me but i found lots of cousins
Really?! How’d they lie?

Wow! That’s the most pettiness I’ve ever heard.
That was a spiteful and mean person to do that...
Does the Ancestry DNA reveal who your dad is even if he's not registered with Ancestry? I don't trust customer service
I uploaded my Ancestry results in to other sites like Myheritage and Gedmatch for free. I was able find enough of his close relatives to find him. Join Genealogy Search Angels group on Facebook they have some great resources.
I had to know my parents I was raised by them so I didn't have a choice.

I used an Adoption Angel under WikiTree to locate my biological parents from my DNA marches. I was adopted as an infant and discovered why in my 60's.
So happy for you. I was just talking about doing this. Ive always been against it because... conspiracy theory but ima do it and post a video for it.
Thank you 😊 I felt the same way but I had no choice...Can’t wait to watch your video.
