My first Pentax Digital (after years of Pentax film cameras) was a K100 which was followed a few years later with a K30. Both cameras are really nice to use with intuitive menus and controls. They still produce really good images. I don't use either of them often enough to justify buying a later model, so I will just stick with them. It's nice to see such overwhelmingly positive reviews of Pentax cameras though as they are overshadowed by the likes of Nikon and Canon in most peoples eyes. Their legacy system lenses are among the best anywhere and can used on any of their latest cameras. I am sure if more buyers took the time to properly consider Pentax then they would be seen as one of the big three.
"The KP is mentioned to be a lot smaller. And if you look at the actual sizes of these cameras, it doesn't seem like it's that smaller." The K-70 is smaller than the KP in every dimension, and just a few grams lighter weight as well. The K-70 and K-S2 (built on the same chassis) are almost the smallest DSLRs that Pentax have ever produced. The only one that was just slightly more compact was the K-S1, but it had compromises to achieve that. (Fixed LCD, no weather sealing, really small grip.)
Dam the KP shutter is loads faster than the K-70! There's things I love about the K-70 but the KP defiantly has some extra features I would love to try out and would be better for my style! Nice comparison Lee.
I have both cameras and agree with your assessments. You might have given extra time to the function dial. You can program ISO there and that allows quick access to all three parts of the exposure triangle. Like you I use AV mode but having quick access to ISO now makes manual a reasonable option. You did not mention the electronic shutter with the KP. I have only tested this so far but it may prove very useful. I did comparison shots indoors and upon enlargement the KP was slightly sharper. (On another site commenters did criticized my method.)
When watching your videos on the KP it seemed you preferred the k70. I don't think it's worth the extra money for the new KP these days unless it drops back down in price
Its 2022 and i'm still desiring a KP even though a Pentax KF is coming up. For me its still practical buy. The Pentax KF has little to offer and price is beyond my budget.
What is answer question to the answer "which one do you prefer". "None of them, i stick with the K1". I think its hard for a reviewer to review a camera two or three tiers below its usual gear. is the Kp the successor of the K-70 or the rival in the same tier? how do it perform against a higher tier APS-C e.g. K3-III (yes i know double the price point, but same sensor size).
Lee I have the K70 & the K3-11 I like the dual card slots and the larger battery on the K3-11. The K70 performs better in low light as it takes fairly decent photos at ISO 12500 The K3-11 ISO 6500. The K3-11 performs better in bird photography more focus points. I occasionally use the articulated screen on the K70 especially in live view
Yes there is 40 years of pentax lenses that will work. There is also a lot of very unique vintage lenses that give a interesting look. There is new lenses too

yes meant to mention the electronic shutter I haven't tested it out yet. Thanks for watching.
I can recommend the KP for low light conditions.
